it's nice to see that German players are the envy of the world once again

    BUT

    this is going too far

    1. Ballack left on a free last season

    2. Hinkel / Odonkor off to Sevilla / Betis

    3. Frings is flirting with Juve

    4. Klose possibly off to Barca

    5. Jansen also has a Barca offer now

    6. Metzelder will join Real Madrid on a FREE

    7. Gomez had clubs like Liverpool watching him

Lahm had Real on his tails, Merte Inter, Kiessling/Auer Arsenal ....

once German players understand that the big money can only be earned abroad, they will LEAVE and bleed the Bundesliga dry

the Teutonic league will degenerate into a German Eredivisie Shocked Evil or Very Mad

May I point out that Hinkel *had* to leave Stuttgart if he didn't want to end up playing like Arne Friedrich for the rest of his career? Also, where's Hild€brand in that list? He's said he's off to some foreign club (probably Valencia, or so persistent rumours tell us) as well.

Lahm and Real? Ein gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanz alter Hut, Otto! That was news of the day back when he was at Stuttgart.

DON'T. PANIC. Every little thing will turn out all right. At the latest if some players return, like Hitzlsperger's done, simply because Jogi Löw doesn't follow them/call them up anymore. (I am in no way bitter... Wink ).

Nonsense. Our league is too rich and simply too big to become a farming league for others. Actually, I have no problem with the best German players going abroad, as long as the foreign clubs pay adequate money for them.

The strenght of our league has always been the the domestic players, the stars we created ourselves. For almost a decade, we had lost touch with modern football youth education, which as a consequence lead to a drought of talent. Now, most clubs have reformed their youth systems, in addition to the reforms made by the German FA. Most Bundesliga clubs have very good youth academies now, some of them truly excellent, which can rival the best youth academies abroad. This means that the output of good / great talent is much higher than it used to be a few years ago. This will only strenghten the league in the long run, and those players going abroad will be replaced with new talent.

We went back to our roots, and this is only good for the Bundesliga.

New language? Listening to Marcell Jansen makes me think a couple of (High) German lessons wouldn't go amiss. Wink Nah, just joking.

Because in the mean time, the German clubs will have gained more importance in Europe again. (That's what my rose tinted crystall ball tells me. Besides, he'll end up at Bayern or Schalke before long anyway...).

If they ever pinged up at all. The problem is that naturally, Löw can't be everywhere. I just hope that with the growing German contingent in Spain, he'll dispatch someone to keep an eye on all of the players (which would also be made a lot easier if Sevilla managed to sort of their TV deal...).

Yeah, now that even Bayern have failed us--what are we to expect from next season apart from Schalke bottling it in the CL group stages, Stuttgart never as much as getting that far and Werder playing beautiful but ineffective football? Oh, and of course Bayern losing to Mattersburg or Donetsk in the UEFA Cup. </gloomy></irony>

Warten wir's doch erstmal ab! Wink

It's typical for otto, it's either doom or boom, there is no balance. One day Hitzfeld is the saviour, the next day he wants him to get sacked. One day the Bundesliga is blessed by a "conveyor belt of talent", a few days later the future of the league is questioned.

I blame England and the English influence. There is no other explanation.

Too true. "The lifestyle nicer" – Otto, I'm simply disgusted. Someone else will have to take on the role of chief Deutschland cheerleader.

Besides, if it's a case of Germany's brightest and best talents all being picked up on the cheap, that's one thing, but you'd have thought that to have several important players at world-class clubs round Europe would be a good advert for German football and representative of the strength of the national team, as it is for most top countries (with the exception of Italy and England).

    Surreal stuff.

otto, like I said, as long as those clubs pay good money for those German "stars" (-> established players who have played a couple of seasons in the Bundesliga at least), I have no problem with them moving abroad, because we constantly create new stars (e.g. Gomez this season), unlike a few years ago.

It becomes a problem when all of our young talents move abroad too early, without establishing themselves in the Bundesliga first. That has to be prevented by the Bundesliga clubs, otherwise we might end up as a farming league indeed.

you also lost Berbatov last year. A great miss.

it's all about money, Otto. If the money continues to be divided the way it does, the Bundesliga may not become quite as poor as the Eredivisie but a lesser league indeed, like Portugal's or France's with the only advantage the population, fans and atmosphere and the chance for up and coming foreigners as a stepping stone to bigger, better things in the top 3 leagues.

The worrying thing would be that those top German players would go to mid-table foreign teams, like happens at the moment in Holland, where players seem to prefer playing for a team like Fulham or Portsmouth over PSV or Ajax.

As much hype as Berbatov gets in England these days, he never was a dominant player in the Bundesliga. A very talented and important player for his club Leverkusen, but not a dominant figure.

You are right, it's all about money, and that's exactly the reason why the Bundesliga will never become a farming league for others, as mentioned earlier. The Bundesliga as a whole has the second highest turnovers in Europe this season, right behind the EPL, overtaking the Serie A. The league is simply too big and rich. The difference to the so called "big three" leagues is that our elite clubs (with the exception of the dominant club Bayern) are considerably poorer, the Bundesliga is simply more even financially.

Still, more than enough financial muscle to prevent a mass exodus of homegrown players.

Real Madrid look set to irritate another major European club after it is claimed contact has been made with Werder Bremen midfielder Diego.

Spanish newspaper Marca - who are always pivotal in breaking stories claiming Real are set to sign players - has claimed that initial contact has been made with the Brazilian midfielder and that his response has been "positive."

It goes onto say that the final decision will lie with Werder - which goes without saying as the player has three years left on a contract he only signed at the start of this season.

Diego, 22, started his career at Santos in Brazil and rose to prominence in Europe while playing for Porto. He has 16 caps for the national team.

To be honest Blut and I dont mean to be WUM or disrespect Werder, but if Real are interested in him, he has to leave. They are one of the elite clubs in the world also he can join his good friend Robinho and recreate the formidable Santos partnership.

He is certainly a more realistic target than Ronaldo, Kaka and Fabregas.

If Real offered £20-25m would they accept it?

You are clueless about Werder, you are clueless about the structure of our club, about the people working here, and most importantly, you are super clueless about Diego himself. Yet, it's enough for you to repeat the same nonsense over and over again. And that's exactly what a WUM does.

Diego himself has denied the rumour, he said himself that there is no contact to Real (or any other club for that matter).

Oh do stop playing games Ottolein. You know perfectly well that you've been the one going on and on about how it's in X, Y and Z's interests to leave, so how am I supposed to know that although these never-ending younger talents would still be around the exodus would still spell "doom" for the Bundesliga... several key Deutschies have played abroad in the past at precisely the times when German football was strongest, besides.

You are a naughty little sophist, given that as I recall you said "doomed"; of course the BL would be "star-light", by definition, if all the best Germans left, which won't happen anyway. You really are such a "Windfähnchen" of a sensationalist. Good work Wink

"Didn't know SA played cricket" – you are good Otto, very droll. On the Tussi, you can do your own detective work. I will check out this Cornish character, though don't think I've seen anything of hers yet... (on a different note, watched Das Experiment last night, which I hadn't seen all the way through before. What a piece of work.)

Seriously, do you think this is some kind of bazaar or something? Why does he have to leave if Real shows interest in signing him? Will they (or other "elite" clubs that have shown interest for months already) lose interest if he plays another (or more) years and establishes himself in the league?

What utter nonsense. And what is so difficult to understand about "not for sale"? No, not for 20, 30 or 40 m EUR. We won't sell him after one season. Period.
