Wenger doesn't buy British players because he's Cr@p with them, plain and simple. Never been able to get the best out of them. He's only really effective with French and West African players. Bit of a limitation if you ask me...
We cant be expected to buy every young british talent ffs. Only one club can sign each player, therefore, the chances of that club being Arsenal are low.
The chances of that club being Arsenal are zero, because Wenger is Cr@p with British players (and he knows it and knows he's wasting the club's money bringing in players he won't be able to work with). My only problem with this is Wenger blaming it on transfer fees when numerous top young British players have been available for more than affordable fees in recent years. The truth is that, for whatever reason, British players stagnate under Wenger. Walcott is merely the latest in a long line.
Also, we were strongly linked with Carrick and it was only at the last minute we decided not to buy him.
Preferring instead to buy yet another foreign teenager who isn't as good as everyone makes out...
Defoe isn't even Arsenal quality, and we would be lucky to recoup the fee that we would have paid.
He's a significantly better goalscorer than Adebayor. Hell, he's a better out and out striker than Van Persie. Easily good enough and would fit into your team well as he's quick and technically decent (basically the only two things Wenger seems to care about). But yes, you would be lucky to recoup the fee you would have paid because, like so many before him, Defoe would have gone to Arsenal, stagnated under Wenger, barely played a game and then been blamed for it when he was quietly shipped on for 1/5 of the price.
