Do you honestly see your position changing to 2nd through the signing of Villa or Torres though?

Your buying Villa/Torres on an expectation of potential poor performances, potentially not adapting the league and general disliking of the English life style. You do however expect them to make a difference in the long term if they click, something I doubt Bent would do in tandem with other average strikers.

I'm not factoring in negative expectations.

Villa and Torres are both 'fowards', not strikers per se, although Villa's scoring record may lead you to beleive that he plies the trade of a striker, he does not.

Liverpool do not need another forward, they need a striker - if Kuyt was to play with either torres or Villa there is a very viable risk that they would step on each others toes. Bent would not - he would play off the last defender, he would be a poacher, he would offer far more aerial threat than either of Villa or torres and he would chip in with 15+ goals in the EPL - which is EXACTLY the type of player that Liverpool need

Might be better off selling Kuyt. Using the money to buy Bent.

    Then buy someone like Villa.

Villa - Bent would be a great partnership. ok

Kuyt is a very good player but there are far better support strikers out there, Villa being one of them.

Bent and Villa would both act as great foils IMO

    Doh

Kuyt is the support striker, Bent is the striker - all he has to do is put the ball in the net - he'd be their RVN or Trezerguet.

you've always been anti-Bent so it hardly surprises me that you hold that opinion - his goalscoring record speaks for itself though

    Villa-Bent

Both would work well. Glad it won't happen. Very Happy

If they could afford to. They'd more than likely have flog Crouch instead of Kuyt unless they sell him off cheaply, or have 5 strikers.

    I never wanted Darren Bent.
I was not over happy when we had an £18m bid for Darren Bent accepted.
I was pleased he turned us down.

The guy is a fuckwit though. He flew back from his Carribean holiday, discussed things with us, practically agreed it as Bent was staying there for the next day medical. Then when Curbs was on his way back to his holiday in Spain, Bent says No. Why not just say No before coming back Doh

Spurs new favourites to land Bent

Darren Bent has attracted interest from several clubs
Spurs are the new favourites to land Charlton's £17m-rated England striker Darren Bent after he turned down a move to West Ham.

The Hammers thought they had clinched a deal for the 23-year-old until he had a last-minute change of heart.

BBC Sport understands Liverpool are admirers of Bent, but he is currently not their top striking target.

One stumbling block to a quick deal may be Spurs' current reluctance to match the £17m fee offered by West Ham.

He snubbed a move to West Ham after the two clubs agreed a fee.

"We set a valuation for Darren and West Ham were the only club prepared to meet that valuation," said Charlton chief executive Peter Varney.

"This morning we gave them permission to speak to Darren, which he did, and he has decided not to join West Ham."

The Addicks, who were relegated from the top flight last season, now expect Bent to stay with them.

"We look forward to Darren starting with us in the Championship next season, which is a massive boost to our chance of returning to the Premier League."

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley had reportedly offered midfield man Hayden Mullins to Charlton in a bid to clinch the move.

If Bent had decided to join West Ham he would have rejoined manager Alan Curbishley, who spent £2.75m to bring the striker to Charlton from Ipswich two years ago.

A West Ham spokesman confirmed the deal was not moving forward, adding: "A fee had been agreed between West Ham and Charlton but it was not possible to reach an agreement with the player.

"West Ham have been considering a number of options in terms of a new striker for the club and will now be pursuing alternatives."

Not really, as I don't agree.

As for the bigger club, there is not much in it. You talk about Spurs like they are in there with the top 4. If you can see why they are much bigger than us then I would like to here why.

I just think most players would prefer to join a team which has cemented it's place near the top of the table over the last few years than a team which was relegated, promoted, and then was almost relegated again.
