HSV have signed Romeo Castelen (RW) from Feyenoord, price: €2.5M. In addition to that, they have signed 18 year old German youngster Jerome Boateng (defensive allrounder) from Hertha for €1M.

Hamburg have done well on the transfer market this summer, expect them to have a much better season than the last (unfortunately).

This is about Jerome Boateng, Kevin 'Prince' Boateng's younger brother. The latter most probably will sign for Spurs soon indeed, although there are new rumours of Real Madrid being interested now as well. According to rumours, his agent and Spurs are still negotiating about his wages. He demands €1.5M, but Spurs are only willing to pay him €900.000 plus bonuses.

Both Jerome and Kevin are from the Hertha youth, they play on different positions though. Jerome usually is a fullback (two footed like his brother, can play well on both sides, usually on the left because LBs are more rare), while Kevin plays in the central midfield.

Schalke confirmed today that they definitely won't sign Stephen Appiah from Fenerbahce this summer. Fenerbahce had said that they would be willing to negotiate if Schalke would be willing to sell Kuranyi to them in exchange (Schalke and Appiah himself had more or less agreed on a transfer), otherwise they would call in FiFA.

Schalke is not willing to sell Kuranyi, that's why the transfer won't happen.

Kinda glad about this to be honest. Yes, would have been great for the league if Schalke had signed such a quality player like him, but on the other hand, a Appiah type of player is exactly what they need now, they'd be (much) stronger competition for us next season.

After the transfer to Roma failed, Newcastle are supposedly interested in signing Brazilian RB Dédé (Dortmund) now. Dortmund demands €10M, a sum Newcastle probably would be willing to spend.

Dédé just gave an interview, he seems to be happy in Dortmund. Don't know if he'll leave.

So, seeing as the new season is just a week away, which clubs have had the most successful transfer windows (aside from Bremen, Bayern and Stuttgart who get covered quite well on this messageboard)? Who are the best signings of the summer? Are there any players or teams to watch out for next season?

I'd say that Leverkusen, Dortmund and Wolfsburg did pretty well.

Leverkusen, for example, signed last years topscorer Gekas for a relatively low sum, replaced quality defender Juan with Arturo Vidal from Chile, bought defensive allrounder Faty for cheap from Roma, in addition to Manuel Friedrich and Lukas Sinkiewicz for the defence. They basically have strenghtened their defensive options considerably, their major weak spot (despite losing Juan), and have added a goal machine for the attack. Their midfield with class players like Schneider is pretty good already.

The best place for an overwiew on transfers, not just Bundesliga transfers, is transfermarkt.de. Here is a transfer list for all Bundesliga clubs (confirmed transfers only):

Vidal Imo is an adequate Juan replacement , very good buys for Leverkusen , they should be aiming for the title and should settle for a UEFA cup.

According to Italian sources, Antonio Cassano has been offered to various Bundesliga clubs, Dortmund and Wolfsburg in particular.

Difficult character, a bit of a c**t even, but gifted footballer also. The only problem could be his wages though, Real probably don't even want a transfer fee, they just seem to want to get rid of him.

I think Antonio Cassano has been offered to every club in Europe. Real Madrid don't have time for him or his excessive wages. Probably one of the biggest wastes of talent in recent times as he was a class act when he signed for Roma.

As you have mentioned his personality and character his is biggest problem. I would say that a move back to Italy is on the cards, Napoli maybe.

Fully agreed on the "waste of talent" bit. ok

According to Italian media, the Italian clubs are not really interested though, guess they know his difficult character better than anyone.

Can't see him work well under Magath in Wolfsburg, Magath is a discipline fanatic, and Cassano is anything but disciplined.

He might be able to do well in Dortmund though. Thomas Doll played in Italy during his career, he speaks Italian. Doll is a motivator, buddy type of coach, he may be able to get the best out of Cassano.

The wages will be a problem, no doubt. But with a little bit of goodwill by Cassano, it could work. Germany would be a very different environment, he could start from scratch here, so who knows?

Wolfsburg have signed Czech U20 international Jan Simunek (CB) from Sparta Prague. Price: ~ €5M (including bonuses).

Their expensive signing of this summer, Ricardo Costa from Porto, was seriously injured in pre season, and will be out for months, that's why Magath had to react and add another CB to the squad.

Schalke have signed 24 year old Uruguayan international Carlos Großmüller (great name for a South American btw. Very Happy) for the attacking midfield position (as a replacement for Lincoln). Großmüller was playing for Uruguayan champion Danubio FC. Price is unknown.

Schalke have two Uruguayans playing for them already, Darío Rodriguez und Gustavo Varela, which should make Großmüller's integration easier.

That's a surprise. At 1m euros that is an absolute bargain. He looked like a talented player at the Copa America. Surely there must be more to it than that because if there isn't Wolfsburg have got one of the deals of the summer.

He costs $2M, that's exactly €1.46M. Quite a bargain for a Brazilian international indeed.

Wolfsburg, or rather Magath, has done well on the transfer market this summer. He spend all the money VW pumped into the club wisely. But now he has to form a team out of all the new players he signed, that will be the more difficult part.

If that's the case, I can't see Dortmund selling him for less than €10M, especially if you consider the highly inflated prices for strikers this summer.

Santander are loaded, after they sold Zigic to Valencia for (ridiculous) €20M.

Fulham are being linked with Danijel Ljuboja at the moment.

What do people think of him? Is he a good player? I guess Anglo will be best placed to comment on him. I've heard that he has an attitude problem, and has caused problems at Stuttgart and at Hamburg on loan. From what I've read, he doesn't sound like a great prospect for Fulham, not a great goalscoring record, and constantly sent out on loan or relegated to the reserves because of off-the-pitch issues. I'm guessing Stuttgart will do whatever they can to offload him this summer.
