You know your in trouble when the cluib with the most English players in the league are not an English club.

Pardew looks pretty silly now if you take his insults to arsenal into account.

Pardew doesn't buy our players. He looks silly because he's corrupt and incompetent, but luckily for him our french players bailed him out last season.  

Southgate's the new U21 coach. Not sure why.

It just shows how seriously they take the U21s. Southgate had a short and poor management career with Boro, then he kissed Trevor Brooking's arse for a while and they give him this job as a reward.

Shocking decision. After how he treated the youngsters here when he was in charge (just basically sold them or didn't play them).. It's ridiculous.

Are there any English Man U players not in the squad ? If so they must be pretty offended.

This squad actually looks ok, you could scrape a decent enough team together out of that lot (if you avoid most of the Man U players).

I think only Zaha and the retired Ferdinand.

Alot of squad picks itself, but there's some dodgy choices: Smalling should never be there - ridiculous that he gets picked when he doesn't play regularly & others like Shawcross over-looked. Ashley Young also should have had to earn a return not just get picked as soon as he's back from injury, why not Agbonlahor who's been playing and on-form for most of 2013.

I guess Barkley is taken just for the experience of being with squad. Townsend could be useful sub so that's reasonable when we don't have a wealth of wide players on form. Sterling probably better off in U21s for now, don't think he's at the point where he should be in England squad regardless of whether he plays or is in form for Liverpool.

So I'd send a message to those not in their first team and switch:
Smalling <-> Shawcross
Young + Sterling <-> Lennon/Lallana/Rodriguez
Milner <-> Henderson
Defoe <-> Agbonlahor

Not that any of them would ever choose the U21 squad over the senior team, but not convinced the likes of Barkley, Townsend and Sterling get much value sitting on the bench for 2 matches, being overlooked for players such as Milner.

If you send them to the U21s they're just going to get coached by Southgate though.

I don't mind one of Townsend/Sterling as they are the kind of impact sub who could be useful in certain circumstances. v.little chance both would feature though, so I'd only take the one on best form (Townsend).

Barkley does seem a premature pick. I guess it depends on player personality as to whether being taken along for the ride at this stage in career is a useful motivator (this is what I could get regularly if I work hard & progress) or if it sends the wrong message (I've made it!).

Delusion of the highest order. As long as we have coaches telling youngsters to "use it" and "hoof it", we're not going anywhere.

But yeah, same regurgitated BS. We need to be looking at 2026 at the earliest. Hopefully then, the graduates of St George's Park can show us something new - IF they have been coached properly. That would imply England have decent coaches to work with young people. *sighs*
