David James, Robert Green, Joe Hart; Wes Brown, James Milner, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Joleon Lescott, Ryan Shawcross, Leighton Baines, Stephen Warnock; David Beckham, Theo Walcott, Frank Lampard, Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard, Michael Carrick, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stewart Downing; Emile Heskey, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Peter Crouch, Carlton Cole

Pretty much as expected bar Micheal Owen missing out.

Can't believe Walcott got picked. Or Wright-Phillips.

Is there a reason Milner is placed among the defenders.

    Shawcross.

    Baines and Warnock. Good

Capello is clever to include Walcott in the squad his raw pace can strategically be as important as Beckham and his crossing if he sees a weak link on either flank to exploit.

Strange thing to say, i don't think anyone has claimed England will win the world cup. What's wrong with the squad anyway? It looks alright apart from Heskey and Walcott, and it's obviously missing Rio, the two other Coles, and Nile Ranger.

A.Young's coming back into some form and he should certainly be miles ahead of Walcott when it comes to picking wingers. Not quite as fast but he ain't slow and has the crucial difference that he is capable of crossing.

Walcott doesn't deserve to be near the squad at the minute.

Good that Downing's got back in. On course to get in the World cup squad as I predicted.

J.Cole will hopefully come back into contention too. Hope he gets more of run at Chelsea. Was quite good today and subbed harshly early.

    Milner as a defender Doh

Walcott and Wright-Phillips our only dribbling midfielders Doh

    Beckham Doh

    Heskey Doh

    No Joe Cole Doh

Anything but certain that A Cole, Rio and Glen Johnson will be fit for the finals.

All we need now is an injury to Rooney and our pre World Cup preparations will be complete.

Ale Although I'd still take Carrick. He was awesome at the Emirates against Arsenal. Rarity, but still worth having on the bench if and when Barry or Lampard are having an offday as he does have big match experience playing with United.

Don't need to take Crouch, C. Cole and E. Heskey as they all pretty much play the same big man upfront role.

I'd leave Crouch behind. I don't like how we play with him in the side. He's not as mobile or strong as the two blacks.

But if those two are having an off-day, what will bringing on Carrick achieve? If England are chasing a game, Milner, Downing, and Gerrard are all able to move into the centre, and are all more likely to inspire a goal than Carrick.

He may be of some use if England are trying to close down a game or waste time.

I was going to stick Agbonlahor in for Crouch or Cole too, but decided to minimize my Villa bias. Still think his pace would be useful (can be more secure about leaving Walcott out too, if we got Lennon & Agbonlahor for pure pace)

Agree with Kas on Carrick, I just can't think of many situations where he'd be useful.

I haven't followed Tottenham too much this season(expect better from them) except from the start but what about Huddlestone? Hasn't he done well for Tottenham? The closest they have to a midfielder that can control the game is Carrick and he rarely seems to impose himself.

For me it's Huddlestone > Carrick (but I am Huddlestone's fan for a long time)... but Carrick has big games experience, something which makes him more solid option IMHO in Capello eyes.

Stinger is spot on - Huddlestone doesn't have the big game experience.

I wouldn't want him to go to the world cup, I think it will only hinder his progress.

Say what you like about Carrick, but he does know how to retain the ball.

When you consider the criticisim often levelled at England is our inability to maintain possession for long periods, it's important to have someone in the team who can provide this.

Also, he plays with Rooney at United, and will be familiar with Rooney's runs.

Im not convinced. An itch you cant scratch is frustrating.

Heskey is frustrating, you look at this big black motherfucker and think, this c**t should be smashing c**ts up. Yet there he is, on his arse again, Heskey is like an itch.

Then there's something like terminal illness..and you just think "shit". Michael Carrick is like that.
