We love to in fight! We are very good at that. Some players have authority problems (a dutch disease).

Van Bommel couldn't stand he was not a starter all the time. It's a pity because he can be a very good back up player....

    Van Basten open to duo

Holland coach Marco van Basten would be interested in giving call-ups to Ajax winger Leonardo and Feyenoord midfielder Jonathan de Guzman.

Both players have dual nationality, having played in Holland for several years.

Leonardo is Brazilian and has been capped by Brazil at youth level, but moved to Holland at an early age after being spotted by scouts at Feyenoord.

De Guzman, meanwhile, is Canadian, and his brother Julian plays for the Canada national team, but he too arrived in Holland at a young age to join Feyenoord.

While neither player has yet pledged his allegiance to Holland or otherwise, Van Basten admits he is a fan of both players and feels their education in Dutch football means they will fit into the national side well.

"For us, of course, it is nice if we have more choice," he told the KNVB website.

"Both Leonardo and de Guzman are good footballers, and, importantly, they are both players who have been in active in Dutch football from a relatively young age, and so are know the Dutch football culture.

"They definitely are two players who have the qualities to be considered for the Dutch squad, so if they decide to become 'football Dutchmen', they will certainly be considered for an Oranje invitation."

It's not sure those two will....

    (and if there's a God they won't)

They have been in Holland for four (?) years though and that's apparently enough to get a passport.

Kalou has only been three years in Holland or so : IIRC he had to wait another year to get his pass.

    Van Basten strikes back!

    "Van Bommel is contradicting himself"

I really love this soap! It is so fabulous being a Dutch nowadays. We are so good in fighting each other with words.... ok

    Code:
Van Basten: 'Van Bommel spreekt zichzelf tegen'

    21/4/2007  10:34

Will Van Basten give in or is he so stubborn there is no room for Van Nistelrooy in Oranje ?

Van Nistelrooy hoopt nog steeds op EK

    7/5/2007 19:30

My guess is : Van Basten will stay on his high horse and Ruud won't play under him again...

    (From VI.com)

Van Nistelrooy en Van Basten begraven strijdbijl

    25/5/2007 12:51

    I disagree.

The WC showed that playing a 4-3-3 with Robben, RVP and a striker doesn't work.

So even though they are the best players, they don't make for the best team.

I'd go for RVN and RVN as strikers, VDV and Kuyt as roaming between midfield and attack and defensive/controlling players in the rest of the positions. Having Robben as a sub when their players are already tired...

yes, but it could be better.

I'd rather have VDV (#10) feeding Ruud. Sneijder as the #10 back-up, and Robben, RVP and Kuyt switching between each other.

Huntelaar and Vennegoor of Hesselink/Koevermans/Makaay as Ruud backups.

That's what I said, he's back against the wall and has to swallow that biased pride of him, and fix something that he fucked up. Big time.

The fact that it took this long (an entire year) tells you all you need to know about Van Basten.

It remains too be seen if Ruud makes Seedorf-under-Van-Basten-like impacts to the game - translation: play the final three minutes of a game.

Next step, get rid of Slory, Sno, Heitinga, Emmanuelson, Bouma and Van Basten himself.

Agree somewhat with Axe. Unless the attitude changes with the two wingers (won't happen) I'd rather have RVP and Kuyt start out and a preference of VDV over Sneijder, just to feed Ruud better.
Robben comes in at the 60th minute. Starting with Kuyt also gives you more options, he can be subbed for Robben or he can become the second striker and sub a defensive player for Robben. NOt to mention if Ruud gets injured we already have a striker on the pitch.
Kuyt needs to start at RW though - NOT LW!!!!!!!!!

    Sar

    Jaliens/Kromkamp - Boulah - Opdam - De Cler

    Schaars, Landzaat, Sneijder, Robben, Seedorf
Huntelaar, Vennegoor of Hesselink, Makaay, Koevermans, possibly Babel

Looks a lot better, and I'm not getting paid millions to f*ck up the squad.
