Ok Peeps, continuing with the tradition, we shell open this forum for the Superligua.

Predictions for the 1st games of the season
    Austria Viena x Benfica : 1x2
Bearing in mind that Micolli,Simao and Alcides are injured, and that the team has been playing like shite under this new 4-4-2 diamond tactic, this is more a wish than a done deal

Like I said on the previous board. I am really confident on us getting a result tomorrow.

We had a bad pre-season which is a time to mess about and play with the tactics and sort players out.

Now its for real I reckon we will get a result, even a win.

I'm saying 2-1 for Benfica. Rui Costa and Nuno Gomes scoring... (How many years I have waited to say that!?!?! Rui Costa scoring for Benfica!!!!) Smile

Ok, so Leo is also injured, what leaves us with the team like this for Austria Vien

    Moreira (or Quim)
    Nelson-Luisao-Anderson-R Rocha
    ----------Petit-Katsouranis--------
    ------------Rui Costa--------------
    Manu--------------------P Jorge--
    ------------N Gomes--------------

If one of our defenders get injured, we are stuffed

    How about?

    Moreira
    M.Ferreira-Luisao-Anderson-Nelson
    Petit-Katsouranis
    Manu-Rui Costa- PJorge
    Nuno Gomes

Or the one that A Bola suggested a few days back, and due to the fact that we are training behind closed doors wouldnt be surprised if we played in 3-4-1-2 like suggested which would mean:

    Moreira

    Luisao - Anderson - Rocha

    Nelson (M.Ferreira) - Petit - Katsouranis - Karagounis (Nelson)

    Rui Costa

    Nuno Gomes - Fonseca

    E esta em?

Karagounis is shite on the right side.Does not attack through the flank, does not cover for the defender.
He always goes to the middle leaving a big gap on his side.
In theory that tactic would be great, but I can not see Marco Ferreira lasting the 90 minutes
N Gomes and Fonseca are too similar in the attack, and never played together.
But it would be more attacking option, although I dread to think about the defense.
Nelson seems to loose is marbles whenever he plays as a winger. Rather have Manu there, much faster player

You need to forgive me in some of the players. I have only saw Nelson play a couple of times (manly last season's champs league) and he seem fine as an attacking wing back. I reckon we will play with Ferreira at right back and Nelso in the left.

I disagree regarding Fonseca and Nuno. Fonseca is much more mobile than Nuno and I think he is more similar to Miccolu than Nuno, but I might be wrong.

Karagounis is more attacking player I know, but if we play Manu will he be able to do the whole right side of the pitch (if we went on a 3-4-2-1 tactic)?

Again never saw Katsouranis, Manu and Paulo Jorge playing that's why I dont necessarily picked them for the team. Need to get a TVCabo box!!!!!

P Jorge will be a good player if he stops dishing out some love to the opponents, and Manu is a very fast winger, never a 2nd striker
The goal x AEK was basicaly a good show of his speed, and P Jorge good running forward
Karagounis is more a central midfielder, never a player to go outside.Does not have the speed or the routines to do so.

I'm courios about Fonseca though. Hopefully he will bring some inteligence and movement to the forward line

So if we went back to the tactic we used the last few seasons would Manu and P Jorge replace Geovanni and Simao on the pitch?

Anyone will be better than Geovanni, but if Manu is as good as you say than we will be better served than with Geo, will P Jorge be capable of being a good replacement for Simao?

The only thing about last seasons tactic is that we only played with one striker. A team like Benfica should always play with two upfront!

We should keep an eye out for our buddies that haven't made the transition yet...if we don't see them in the next little bit we should send out a search party.

Well, it looks like both A Bola e O Jogo are in agreement. This is Benfica's team for tonight:

    Quim

    Rocha - Luisao - Anderson - Nelson

    Petit - Katsouranis

Manu - Rui Costa - Paulo Jorge

    Nuno Gomes

What do you think? A Bola says it will be a 4-4-1-1 that will translate into a 4-3-3- or 4-4-2 (with wingers) when attacking.

I'm a bit disappointed that we are again playing with only one upfront, but because we are playing away from home I let it go.

    Bring on the champs league!!!

We can not play any other way. Rocha will not attack as much as Leo, and this way we can have someone doing the corridor when Nelson goes up.
Then you have Karragounis to replace Rui Costa, and Mantorras, Fonseca, to come if need be

P.S, not far off from my team on one of the early posts

Manu has some talent, not as young as people think, and he can have an important role from the bench. Starting eleven.... mmmm too much, its like sending your kids shopping.

Nothing, I didn't say he would. If he does, great for him and great for Sporting.

However, just because he didn't do well for them doesn't mean he won't for us. The game is full of players that switch leagues and excell.

Well, Arnaud liked the guy. He played in the cup and scored some goals... and he says he has nothing to do with Koke.

Lets face it: Bueno can be regarded exactly the same as Kikin Fonseca.

On the other side... South American players that failed in France and failed again in Portugal - Fabiano, Deivid, ...

My real hope on Bueno is that his role on the team is doing what Liedson done the 2nd half of season last year. Liedson was in charge of the high pressure and bend to the sideline, staying usually Deivid in the center. I saw entire games without a single shot of Liedson to the goal, yet doing a great game.

If Bueno does that role, and frees Liedson to the killing or unbalacing zone... I don't even care if he plays good football, as long as he works like a maniac upfront.

But of course... its a shorter way to think that Deivid HAS to be something good..... Damn, in Brazil teams are still willing to pay 2-3 millions for the guy.

With Co gone Postiga is back in the squad...problem sovled for Porto.

Can't believe Co was complaining about not having strikers when he sent so many quality young guys away.

Sporting's situation is similar, but not quite the same. Neither Varela nor Lourenço have the experience of Helder Postiga.

I wonder what Hugo Almeida is thinking....

But Helder Postiga is not the answer for Porto as a striker. He played well under Mourinho. but then again, who doesn't? Since then, he has been, well, average wherever he has been. And the worst thing is that he will still go to Seleccao.

Very surprised about Co resigning. A lovers tif with Pinto da Costa?

Regarding Benfica, poor exibition, badly played, lacked ambition. Still on course for a spot on the CL groups, but we need to improve 1000%

Good goal from N Gomes. Very similar to Madjer almost 20 years ago on the same stadium x Bayer Munique on the CL final

Helder might not be great, but he's better than brining in some new striker. Don't forget that your Nuno is oftern 'average' as well. That said, I would have prefered him to have lead the attack in Germany this summer...
