Yes he is... or perhaps not as bad, just not good enough. He should be playing for the teams 16th-20th in the league not for the 5th that wants to challenge the established top 4.
Last year he was among the three-four worst keepers in the prem (Green, Carrol worse, on the same level as Paddy Kenny).

To keep it short and offer a different perspective on the well known failings of Robinson (crosses, long shots, set pieces, shaky etc), in the top 7 the keepers are supposed to at least win the their team 1 point the entire season. This cannot be said about Robbo, nor can be counted on to.

    I disagree.

He's no where near the worst in the Premier league. People forget he's only 25/26 which is very young for a goalkeeper. Before last season he had been superb for Spurs and Leeds.

He's certainly not one of the best either but for the moment he's a good enough keeper for Spurs. If he doesn't improve enough whilst Spurs are getting better season by season, that's when they should be looking to replace him.

Its not as though we don't watch any championship games saints Wink saw southampton live twice last year as well with my mate and I am very impressed by him - definately at the highest rung of potential ability and for a British player his attacking ability is astonishing.

He'll fit very nicely into Spurs' system

Sure, some people here already know what he's about, but most won't, I'd guess. He's a dream signing for Spurs - naturally left sided, British, very talented with a hell of a lot of potential, set piece taker, good at both ends of the pitch, should maintain his value at the very least, if not become more valuable (I anticipate a move to Liverpool or Man U within 3 seasons).

He's no where near the worst in the Premier league. People forget he's only 25/26 which is very young for a goalkeeper. Before last season he had been superb for Spurs and Leeds.
James, Howard, Friedel, Hahnneman, Reina, Jussi, VDS, Cech, Lehamnn, Sorensen, Schwartzer, Foster, Niemi, Carson, Given, Kirkland and Weaver were all better than him. Paddy kenny on the same level (decent) and Green and Carrol worse.

And Robbo's always dodgy on crosses, set pieces and long shots. I dont see how you can posibly disagree with that. Not too mention he doesn't command his box and makes frequent rookie mistakes (punch the ball when catching, catching when punching was better option; coming out to catch the ball but missing completely).

The seasons before he had the same cockups for Spurs (its then I really noticed) but since it was "Robbo England's #1" time, people never noticed. At the WC I also remember the whole MOTD staff making jokes about the african keepers (replays, slo-mo and all) and their crosses only to have Robinson fail even worse at them.
He's certainly not one of the best either but for the moment he's a good enough keeper for Spurs. If he doesn't improve enough whilst Spurs are getting better season by season, that's when they should be looking to replace him.
Spurs are a fifth placed team who wants to break the top 4 - how in the world can you even pretend that Robbo is good enough for that job? He's decent(-ish), but decent simply won't do. Decent is good enough for the championship or for a cash strapped relegation battling team. Not fifth place.
Or how much longer are they supposed to wait? Till they're in the CL?
Spurs are getting better by the season, but he's keeping them back, that's why he should become the #2 or go to a lower club.

Every one of those keepers made a couple of C0ck ups bar Cech.

He'll certainly be given this season as first choice. If he makes as many mistakes then they may look to change. At the moment it could be just one faily bad season due to confidence.

I'm kinda with parky - until the WC06 Robbo had been in imperious form for Spurs in the season they came 5th and just missed out and before that he was great for Leeds.

Its only really since about this time last year that he's been Cr@p - he's hardly as bad as you're making out DD - if he rediscovers some form and confidence he can be a top keeper again - if he really was as bad as you're making out do you not think Spurs would have come loser?

Its hardly as though they scored tonnes more than any other team and conceded as many as relegation candidates - not bad really, esp with their main defender out for the majority of the season

Yes everyone made a couple of cockups, but none so emberassingly frequent & predictable as Robinson. And it wasn't just this season, the season before it was the same story.

In March when they gave their second keeper (whashisname) a coupe of chances he instantly made the back look much much better.

I'm not having a go at Robbo because I don't like him or owt, its because he's simply not good enough. Even by your own admision he's 'decent', yet you still advocate they keep him at White Hart Lane while they want to break the top 4.

I said despite what anyone thinks he will play next season. Only if he plays badly will Spurs look to replace him.

Yes. Not as frequent (or predicatble) during the 05/06 season, but he made the same mistakes then and he never looked like a quality keeper.
Robinson is predictable now, as you know that he'll struggle with long shots and set pieces, and flap at at least a cross or two per game.

He had a dodgy World Cup, and from then on in he's been awful... but politics have kept him in the starting XI. Cerny impessed me in the couple of games he had.

Just seen a Spurs fan make a very valid point on the Bent issue on another forum.

Jol wanted to rest Berbatov last season at times, however with Mido playing so poorly and Defoe and Keane not working he hardly ever could. I think Keane and Bent could work very well if he ever needs to rest Berbatov.

    Or sell him.

I've heard that Jol might actually play Bale as a left-winger, he certainly has the speed and skill of a winger - take it from me, hes got the tricks/repeated step-overs etc.

15m is a ridiculous price for Bent, i suppose that means that Defoe will be on his way though.

I reckon its' likely that this transfer is a result of Defoe wanting to leave as much as Jol wanting to get rid of him. Defoe probably wants his shot at an England place, and he knows he wont get in ahead of Keane. At least this signing defuses what could have been a source of tension - and Spurs now have a long time to hold out on any club bidding for Defoe, so they'll probably make decent money off him. Taking into account the 'English player bonus' they could well make back a good chunk of what they spent.

I wouldn't say the transfer is 'a result of Defoe wanting to leave'. If it is, then its a bit of extravagent spend - you could certainly get a decent third choice striker elsewhere for a much smaller price if that was the case

Im with Parky- Robbo was SUPERB at Leeds. Seriously. The season they got to the CL semi final, he played one of the best displays by any Keeper I've ever seen at elland Rd versus Barcelona. The game ended 1-1, and Rovaldo himself commented on this unknown keeper who had kept Leeds in it.

I dont beleive that kind of ability just disapears. Robbo does seem FATTER then when he was at Leeds, and certainly lacking confidence, however I dont believe he is anywhere near as bad as DD is making out.

For Christs sake the guy has the full support of the England and Spurs manager- if he were so poor he'd almost certainly be dropped lets face it; of course I dont know the politics at these levels but its not rocket science to suggest if he were really as bad as DD is making out it would have been noted by both managers.

Area of main concern I think- Left wing and perhaps an attacking midfielder option . Jenas/Huddlestone/Zokora arent really in that mould, and the reserves such as Murphy arent good enough.

Robinson has never been that good, he's never been a top 5 keeper in the premiership. He's just an average keeper that has had alot of attention in recent years because he's been the best English keeper available.

I'd say he was competent at most things but not outstanding at anything. He is not a great shot-stopper but he stops a few shots, he doesn't dominate his penalty box but he'll get a few catches, he doesn't sweep behind the defence but he might clear up a couple of times. Add to that him mistaking quite a few mistakes now, and well, he's thoroughly average. I can't believe he is ahead of james for england.

Having the backing of the england management is hardly an endorsement, lampard has it and everyone thinks he should be out, neville has it, and is probbaly closest to robinson's position, he's thoroughly average but there's no-one better.

Sky Sports News understands Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a fee to sign Darren Bent from Charlton Athletic.

Bent has been strongly tipped to move to White Hart Lane after Charlton's relegation from the Premier League last season.

West Ham United matched the Addicks' valuation of the striker earlier this month, only for the England international to reject a move to Upton Park.

Reports have persisted in recent days that Spurs have been closing in on the signing of the former Ipswich Town marksman.

According to Sky Sports News, Bent is now expected to undergo a medical on Friday before agreeing personal terms with Spurs.

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney told Sky Sports News earlier in the week that no other clubs had yet come up with an offer to match the asking price for the 23-year-old.

But it now appears that Spurs have met Charlton's demands, with previous reports suggesting West Ham had offered in the region of £17million.

If the North London club finalise a swoop for Bent, it would provide Martin Jol with an enviable forward line for next season, which also comprises Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe.

They might be...though the situation is similar at Spurs...Defoe is another small striker. Man Utd want a tall one I assume.

Chelsea,Liverpool/Arsenal won't be in for him.

I'll be surprised if he moves North other than Man Utd or Chelsea.

Which leaves teaming up with Harry, going to Villa or coming back to us.
