You don't achieve what he has whilst being an integral part of a team, if you're 'average'

Scoring in one final might be considered flukey, but in 6 finals?

Go f@ck yourself Otto, complete WUM i'd love to smash your dirty German teeth into pieces Ale

Have one on me Ale Pr!ck ok

    Who knows,

he certainly needs to buck up his England form.

For Liverpool though, can't be many complaints - hence the aggressive and generally unanimous response your thread has recieved from 'Pool fans

    no, we cannot

has something to do with different weight classes, competitive disadvantages and the like

I would accept a boxing match with bernd or fey

might have to shed some extra-poundage though

the mental beer belly that comes from spending too much time on here is beginning to tell

I'd pick axel as a sparring partner

after a week or so my uppercut would be better than Vladimir's

    here you go:

    http://www.uefa.com/fanzone/teamoftheyear/news/newsid=647474.html

After 3.75 million votes were cast by 277,985 users, the uefa.com users' Team of the Year 2007 has been revealed. Take an in-depth look at the selections.

Central midfield: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool FC)
The Liverpool talisman may have lost out to Milan in the UEFA Champions League final, but Gerrard finished well ahead of second-placed Andrea Pirlo in the voting in this category. He also received more votes as captain than any other player, over 40,000. He led Liverpool to a second final in three years and late in 2007 scored in seven successive matches, including the last three UEFA Champions League fixtures as Liverpool made the last 16.

Additionally I'd point out the teams of the year for the last 3 years and only 1 name has consistently been that good. That's right Steven Gerrard.

What has this got to do with it? Is ballack only good becasue the sun's equivalent in germany says he is Doh

The votes were from uefa users, and the uefa.com web-site is in different languages, so maybe it was the sol readers from spain and the soleil readers from italy. Or maybe he is just highly regarded as opposed to ballack who was highly regarded 2 years ago.

I'm sure you'd be the second one wanking yourself off over it if ballack had been named, otto being the first of course. The 2 of you would be having your own little ballack love-in thread Wink.

i prefer Pirlo,Essien,Cambiasso,Iniesta,Scholes,Gattuso, over Gerrard even maybe Hargreaves

so that would make him the 7th or 8th best midfielder in the world for you.

even though I love gattuso he isn't anywhere near as good. Pirlo and gattuso work great together, but both need each other. Inidivudally I'd have gerrard over both of them. Essien is overrated, especially going forward. Cambiasso on the form he is in at the moment is the best, but he needs to show it in the CL. gerrard on his best form against Cambiasso on his best, I'd prefer gerrard. Iniesta like scholes is a great passer but limited in other parts of his game compared to some of the others.

At least you didn't name ballack, expect a visit from allez Wink

Gerrard is not everbodys cup of tea, i can appreciate this.

I was a central midfielder and i always loved watching players like Roy Keane, Bryan Robson, Vieira etc. real box to box midfielders in their hay day.

The real difference between the above and Gerrard is that Gerrard can be looked upon as a match winner whereas the above never really hit as many goals and particularly few in crucial games.

I'd take a fully fit Gerrard in the centre of the park over any other central midfielder in the world, but then i am a Liverpool fan, what we need is somebody behind him who is strong can tackle and has excellent distribution to compliment him perfectly Ale

The key with Gerrard is blend. Play him alongside Lampard and of course it doesn't work. They're both glory hunters. He needs someone to do the solid work in midfield.
