Forgot just how good he was in that FA cup final against West Ham - he set up Cisse's goal with a sublime pass aswell as scoring two.
Header against Milan was brilliant too.
Makes me laugh that people call Gerrard a flat track bully, after his successes in important cup finals

You'll never see Henry do that.

It was a free header. I tend to think it looks a better goal than it really is.

Particularly when compared to Henry.

Re: Gerrard
Still a great header Saints, you must also take circumstances into consideration as well.
No body expected him to score from there espically with his head and he still does.

Sure, I'm not denying any of this. Just saying, for the best defence in Europe, that was pretty dreadful defending. Wayne Rooney probably could have scored a header from there.

Except (and this is a pretty important point) he couldn't because he wasn't there, because Man United had been knocked out by Milan in the previous round.
Turning the argument the other way around, our defending for Milan's first two goals was pretty atrocious. And Gerrard also won the penalty

Football genius is a clown but he has a point.I agree with him...Gerrard always scored when it matters.
UEFA final vs Alaves..LC vs MU (wonderful shot)...FA cup against WH...CL vs Milan
Gerrard's great..Don't see why he is so contreversial.
Wonderful deflection

Not sure it was dreadful defending. Milan simply weren't expecting a header from such distance. The cross was hardly powered in - Gerrard got perfect length and spin on the ball, you can see after the ball leaving his head how his body is shaped that he knows exactly where he needed to put it.
I think it's a top notch goal. In an absolute pressure cooker of a situation.
factor in the fact that he has no visible forehead, its a suprise he can actually header a ball.
Problem I have with Stevie G is that he can do that, and then for England he manages to miss from 5 yards in Russia from a far easier chance which would have made the game 2-0 and probably over.
Still, he did help get rid of McClown, so fair play to the man

Yet at the highest level his lack of technical ability or intelligence shines like Roy Keane's collection of Premiership winners medals.
your point would be fine if as others have pointed out, he had not played a major part in just about every final he has played in
If you are looking for the world's best flat track bully look no further than FC ronaldo or berbatov
You forgot Lampard!

He was about 8 yards from the goal, and had three defenders within 5 yards of him. A free header in that position, in that game, against that team is poor defending.
The cross was hardly powered in - Gerrard got perfect length and spin on the ball, you can see after the ball leaving his head how his body is shaped that he knows exactly where he needed to put it.
Sure, but he had no opposition - cross dropped right onto his head, no defender challenging or even jumping in front of him. As far as headers go, it was a sitter.
I think it's a top notch goal. In an absolute pressure cooker of a situation.
Top notch goals for me require beating a defender in some way.
factor in the fact that he has no visible forehead, its a suprise he can actually header a ball.
This is the most convincing of your arguments, for me at least.

I've been pissed off with Gerrard ever since the 2006 World Cup when he failed to turn up almost as badly as Lampard. I really rate the guy for Liverpool, and back in the glory days under Sven when it was Gerrard and Scholes in midfield I liked him for the national team. But right now I'd drop him for Carrick, Barry, Hargreaves... hell, I'd even give Reo Coker a chance...

Re: Gerrard
Some perspective on Gerrard.
It takes a couple of secs to score that header* and a couple of secs to run in to the box and collapse in a heap after Gattuso breathes on you - for the other 119 mins and 50 odd secs he was a complete embarrassment.
He was Cr@p in the 2nd CL final so not that impressive.
* Senor Woody and Ade - not sure you remember Gerrard's header too well - Dida went down in installments.
Pitiful goalkeeping and hardly a great header.
@ TS - Kitson better than Carlton - get outa here !

Carlton at his best is the better player, but Kitson is more reliable IMO, and is more two footed.

Thing is, despite being a big chap Kitson is one of those who, when he doesn't score, provides nothing.
Cole is more of a team player
