It’s not torture, it’s not as if I’m a Barça fan, I only want them to do well because of Frank Rijkaard + Neeskens but at the moment if I say that out loud I could be chased out of town. Cruijff respects Manchester United and is good friends with Sir Alex Ferguson, some so called hoodlums thought he was some sort of evil and blamed him for all of Barças problems this season, all he has done is give his honest assessment on the going ons this season. I blame Messi + the doctors for the problems this season Ale It’s a shame Spain is part of the EU, if not I say the fans who attacked his home should be hanged.

Thanks for the bear, I rather have Adriana Lima for company she will make all my problems go away Biggrin

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff believes his former side can pull Manchester United apart by keeping possession when the teams meet in the Champions League semi-final.

Cruyff, who now acts as an official adviser to club president Joan Laporta, denies there is any reason to be pessimistic, however, and says that Sir Alex Ferguson's men have as much to fear as anyone.
The Dutchman coached Barcelona to their first European Cup triumph back in 1992, and he believes he knows the way to beat the English champions.

He told El Periodico today: 'They run a lot. Their style of football, and that of all the English teams, gives the false sensation that they run more than anyone.
'That's because despite having a majority of foreigners in their squads they maintain the philosophy of long-ball football and sprinting 60 yards.
'That is how they exploit spaces in front of the midfield. If they played in the other team's half more often those spaces wouldn't exist.
'Despite recognising their effort, you can disarm an English side that presses and looks for the long ball by keeping possession and moving the ball around quickly.
'And if you know they will expend all their energy on closing down and chasing long balls, then you know where to beat them: by playing the ball horizontally.
'However badly Barca is doing we have at least the same chance of progressing to the final as United.
'They are very good, that's true. Of the three English teams in the semis, for me Manchester is the best.

'But I'm absolutely convinced that they're thinking exactly the same about Barca. That of all the semi-finalists, the Blaugranes are the strongest.'

lol! great at least we can get some drama from Cruyff. Rai must be torn between his god and his favourite team. so who will it be Rai?
And we have two under 6 strikers upfront ,Cruyffism at its best it seems.

The only problem is the Fronaldo is great in the air and Rooney is an amazing unorthodox target man. Barca can do exactly what Arsenal did to ManU but they have Eto'o instead of Ade and Messi instead of Eboue.

We're just alot less one dimensional than Arsenal. We can play fast tempo football across the deck, counter attacking football and also over the top balls for Rooney and Ronaldo to get onto.

Mixing it up a bit, as Parky says, does not make one a longball team.

Longball in comparison to the purist football that Cruyff loves to peddle, but generally speaking, having a variety of attacking options like United have is far more impressive that watching a side pass the ball around simply for the sake of passing the ball (Arsenal anyone?)

So far we have played the best footballing side in Italy and England...

    Man Utd 1-0 Roma
    Roma 1-1 Man Utd
    Roma 0-2 Man Utd
    Man Utd 1-0 Roma

    Arsenal 2-2 Man Utd
    Man Utd 4-0 Arsenal
    Man Utd 2-1 Arsenal

Now we face the best footballing side in Spain, Barcelona.

How would you compare, contrast and rate these 3 teams:

    Arsenal, Barcelona and Roma

    In terms of...

    style of play
    passing
    movement
    tempo
    gk + defence
    midfield
    strike force
    which team is the best?

For what it's worth, I watched the 2nd leg of Man U - Roma (missed the first leg) and I thought Roma (as did Man U ofcourse), played some very good football. The difference was cutting edge.

Alot of Arsenal goals have been headed goals , apart from that goals from free kicks and corners and crosses in the box.

He writes a weekly article in El Periodico, a newspaper in Spain. The original article is probably on their website, and excerpts are also published every week in SPORT. I was looking for it because I have a strong feeling he didn't straight up say "long ball United" and it's just some wrong translation, but the article isn't on their site anymore.

If you break it down he didn't really. He scored 1 in the 6-1 loss. 2 that were offside in the 2-2. then 2 in the 3-1 win but barthez kicked the ball to him both times, incredible C0ck ups. The one time he truely did produce magic was in that 1-0 with the spin volley. But for me that was once in 7 odd years.

I know all the Barca fans don't think they have a hope in hell. But regardless they are unbeaten in europe like us this year. Celtic fans regard the 2-3 at celtic park as the best away performance they have seen there. So it's not an exact trend in the cl compared to the league. Personally see this as a lot more difficult than the Roma game thats for sure.

IMO there are 2 reasons we found it easy against Celtic:

    1. Messi

    2. They showed us too much respect...I was quite amused at how before the match they were already talking about it being a great occasion blah blah. If they went at us a bit more then it wouldn't be so easy.

Same 2 reasons I've been saying are the only ones why we might beat Man. Utd.

And anyway, if this was a Barça playing at 100%, they would have never conceded those 2 goals to let Celtic back in the game. So basically even if you guys go down a goal, just play the full 90 mins and you're bound to score.

So is everybody fit for this game, United had some problems in their defense, I think.
What about Barca, will Messi can back for this game? I know that Puyol is out, what about the rest of the team?

This is before the Blackburn game tomorrow; hopefully SAF will take a fully fit squad to Barcelona. A 1:1 draw at the Camp Nou will be a fantastic result. Iniesta, Messi & Eto’o probably will be the Barça dangermen.

Henry will either be inspired or go missing, Messi I hope is not 100%. Bojan is the only Barça player I seriously fear, I just pray he does not play.

You said it. There's no excuses this time. Everybody is fit and the key players are not burnt out. For footballing reasons it's better Messi plays so it's good he's back. This tie imo is better than whatever the final will be.

I can't see Henry missing out at Camp Nou, but wouldn't be suprised to see him dropped at OT with Iniesta taking his spot. Obviously Bojan deserves to start, but I don't think he will because currently he's the only Barca substitute capable of making a big impact.

    Barcelona vs Man Utd?

    Van der Sar

    Brown . . . Ferdinand . . . Vidic . . . . Evra .

    Carrick
    RCM? . . . . . . . . LCM?

    Ronaldo . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . LW? .
    Rooney

    RCM/LCM?
    • Anderson - passing, tackling, pace, skill, creativity, link up play with forwards
    • Hargreaves - work rate, athleticism, aggression, tackling, crossing, freekicks
    • Scholes - passing, creativity, experience, shooting

    LW?
    • Giggs - experience, off the ball movement
    • Nani - crossing, pace, skill, unpredictability
    • Park - work rate, energy, creativity, off the ball movement

Barcelona have the passing ability but do they play at the same tempo of Arsenal and Roma to cause Scholes problems if he was to start the game?

What Man Utd players do Barcelona supports want to see not starting the game?

All this Championship Manager stuff with your squad bores me. All I ever see in the Man. Utd. thread is endless permutations of starting lineups and what-if scenarios if you happened to sign a certain player.

But to answer your question, I want to not see any of Van Der Saar, Ferdinand, Evra, Vidic, Ronaldo, Rooney, Carrick, Hargreaves, Tevez, Anderson, or Nani starting the game ok
