Post by Fey Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:50 pm

This was a very thrilling match which Barcelona should have won . Ronaldo missed a penalty for Man Utd and sidefooted it wide with only 2 minutes gone of the match. That just about summed up his performance in the whole match and clearly shows that he can't perform in big matches when United need him to. Henry didn't start the match because of an illness but came on with about 20 minutes to go and straight away and had a decent opportunity but Van der Sar luckily parried it and it didn't run to a Barca player. He also had a decent free-kick but hit it staright at the goalkeeper. Messi also hreatened the United goal with a ouple of decent chances but he was later subsituted for Bojan who couldn't come up with any magic

Man u really failed to threaten the Barca goal all night and they were very lucky to not concede a few goals.

The next leg will be a very interesting one!

    Ronaldo a big game bottler

    examples:

Barca 0-0 Man Utd - threatening but couldn't stay on his feet to build attacks.

AC Milan 3-0 Man Utd - where was he??

1 goal against liverpool in his career, 0 good performances
0 goals against chelsea in his career, possibly 0 good performances.

    biggest example of all:

    FA Cup Final last season.

He's a great player to have on your team and excellent against fulham, bolton and derby, but can he be compared to all time greats who run games when it matters?

And i've noticed a lot of people calling him a winger. Would a winger score nearly all his goals from the edge of the 6 yard box?

    debate. now.

    SAF is Tactically Inept

Anyone who thinks playing our midfielder in attack and our attackers in midfield is plain stupid like Alex.

First off Ron needs space to run into with the ball on his dribbles but when hes in attack he does not have this space to run into as he will be offside.

Playing our strikers wide simply negates their skills they are not dribblers and lack the pace to trouble the fullbacks.

So United away from home are so disjoiinted its unbelievable.

United can play 4 3 3 or 4 5 1 with Ronaldo out wide and Rooney dpown the middle.

How stupid is Alex with this formation of Ronaldo up front? It negates our team if it was so good a formation why not play it week in week out in the Prem?

SAF is so obsessed by the CL he cannot think stright.

    Outclassed & given a lesson

    Sound familiar?

From today onwards, Man UTD fans can't claim to have the best team in Europe, on the basis of playing "great" football against mediocre teams like Newcastle & Wigan.

Barcelona have totally outclassed your team, and shown you how to play the game, and what the "real" passing game is.

As for Ronaldo? - take a look at Messi, he has performed in the big European games, home & away - can't say the same about Ronaldo.

Ac Milan last year, Barcelona this year - also remember the season Beckham left? real Madrid destroyed your team - Keane looked like a lost boy against Zidane.

While Man utd may be the best team in Britain, once you step out of your comfort zone and face Europe's best, look what happens!

Fey wrote:Was that really Barcelona v Man Utd? SAF, I want 90 minutes of my life back thanks to your inadequacy as head coach of Man Utd. Theres a reason why we've gone out at the semi-finals stage so often, and the common denominator is you.

I dont care what the SAF lovers say, screw our domestic success, great teams are judged upon performances in Europe, particularly away from home, and it comes down to the personell and tactics deployed by the management, and ours to put it mildly, has been consistently DISAPPOINTING.

SAF should have retired after the treble. We may have an exciting bunch of players, but we need a tactician that can give us the performances and the results that we crave. At this rate, we're never going to get anywhere near Livepools 5 triumphs. Christ, theyve lost in more finals than we've even been to!

Both teams were extremely poor. Jesus Christ, it was obvious after 20 minutes that the team that we fielded today wasnt going to score, and Ronaldo set the tone with the damned penalty miss, which Ive got a feeling will come back to haunt him and us. Barcelona never looked like scoring, and I think SAF will be satisfied with the goaless draw. But Im not.

Barcelona were so poor, they were there for the taking and we did ef-all to make it happen. I bet you Barcelona score a flukey goal at OT and win the tie, just like Porto did a few years ago.

SAF, what the hell were you doing taking off Rooney? In the 75th minute?! Carrick and Park were total pants today, poor passing, work-rate, tackling, poor everything. We should have made subsitutions at half-time, putting on Anderson and Nani for those 2. Personally, Id have had Pique in the back 4 with Brown at RB, and OH doing his midfield duties, but then that would have meant taking off Scholes, who for me was our MOTM. He was immense and rarely put a foot wrong.

The tactics by us were... what the hell were our tactics? Barcelona were relying on individual brilliance to do something, and we, well we did ef-all. Rooney was wasted on the right. Why the hell didnt we play 4-3-3? Tevez was also poor, even a change in formation, something to lift the boredom would have done. 4-4-2, 4-5-1, but no, safety first... and how many ECL trophies has that won us? But no, arrogant SAF sticks to his guns and we stand more than a 50% of going out, AGAIN at the semi-final stage. And to be honest, we bloody well deserve it.

And I dont want to hear about "oh, we've got Chelsea on Saturday", they will play similarly to what we saw from Barcelona today. They will be there for the taking but we wont do it.

Frankly, that game yesterday was more of a spectacle than the borefest we were subjected to today.

Kuyt wouldn't have missed that penalty, sorry Kuyt doesn't miss penalties full stop Smile ok

0-0 at the Nou Camp and an immense defensive performance. Nobody expected us to beat them, maybe a goal but Barca were on top form.

But Fergie must play Anderson next week to ensure our trip to Moscow. Ronaldo and Nani on the wings, simple 4-4-2.

Vidic will be back next week, meaning we can have Hargreaves back in centre midfield to control the game.

Fey wrote:All idiots who think 0-0 is a good result away from home - go away now.

That was worse than a defeat - the embarassment of seeing our much hyped team gain 27% possession (according to Sky) in a football match and 1, yes ONE shot on target in 90 minutes was to me WORSE than trying to play and losing 3 - 0.

I don't want to win the Champions League in a way which not only rivals our less talented rivals (Liverpool / Chelsea) but is actually more boring. I'd rather lose gloriously - and I simply cannot forgive Fergie for bottling it THIS TIME.

THIS TIME - we have the strongest team in the competition

THIS TIME - we only have domestic rivals in the final

THIS TIME - our semi-final opponents are in relegation form

THIS TIME - fergie sends our team out to defend against a team so poor in form - they couldn't work out how to put the ball in the net - I think we almost fooled them with our sheer inability to play football.

THIS TIME - Fergie is a fool - there is no excuse for that performance - it was so boring it was criminal. I don't want to win the CL playing like wimbledon - I wan't to win it playing like Manchester United.

Fergie you are to blame - and I hope you resign.

Ronaldo Proves His Status as the Best

One would expect that had ronaldo scored the penalty tonight he would promptly be labeled 'the best' having not done very much. Similarly people go to the opposite extreme now that he has missed.

But overall the contrast between Ronaldo and Messi in this match could barely have been greater. With 72% of possession Messi had more of the ball but generally did very little with it. He must burden a large portion of the responsibility for Barca not scoring or creating more presentable chances. One good pass in the first half was the sum total of his worth and a few flash moments don't paper the cracks. He's a great player overall though but tonight, no.

Constrast to Ronaldo who did more with 28% of possession that Messi did for the 60 mins he was on the pitch. Every time Ronaldo got the ball he turned his man, often drawing fouls which weren't given. In spite of them not being given he drew 3 penalties in total but due to the ref we only got one of them. Overall he put in an excellent shift and whilst it is easy for wums to point to the penalty miss I think its time to acknowledge what was a great performance in an extremely tough fixture.

    ====================================

Are they for real? I liked Ronaldo performance, and he was out of his position, But Messi was a class above everyone in this game. He was great.

Today I didn't notice Rooney & Tevez played until they were subbed and I only noticed Ronaldo because he missed a penalty, dived and whinged a lot.

This is the best the premiership can offer? Barça have been RUBBISH this season (I'm not exagerating!) and the best team in the Premiership came here to park the bus and play like a bottom 10 team of the Spanish League Laughing

United have great players. They are just ruined in europe by a manager who simply doesn't have a clue. And yet they still might win the whole thing pale
