I always rated Salgado. Maybe he was a bit past it by then though.

By the way its a strange rivarly ,players do go across directly or indirectly unlike Man Utd and Liverpool where you can count on fingers players going across.

It's not because Barça want to sell players to Madrizz. Figo went there because they paid the release clause, Barça can't do anything about that. Saviola was out of contract so he was free to choose who to join, Barça couldn't say "hey don't join Madriz".
