TBH, while I would like to see us sign a wide player, Crouch leaving meant that priority one was probably a striker. If we'd have signed Quaresma and then Torres got injured we'd have been in all sorts of problems.

    Possibly true.

Still think you could have gone for a slightly lower profile winger though - someone like Ben Arfa or Rosina maybe

True, but Rafa is then back to frittering his transfer money away on squad players and prospects rather than big names.

Babel needs a chance to prove himself.

I mentioned both those names because they're both a bit more than prospects and also are both capable of playing on either wing or through the centre.

Any news on the stadium construction? When is it due to commence?

Don't know about Rosina but I'd put ben Arfa at the same sort of level as Babel.

In a ideal world we would be able to sign one or two 20-year-old hot prospects and still spend £20-£20m on an established player over the summer. But if our funds are limited I'd rather see the established player at the moment.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1039177/Benitez-turn-attention-away-Barry-make-Valencia-star-Silva.html?ITO=1490

Rafael Benitez is set to shelve his plans to buy Gareth Barry and move for cash-strapped Valencia midfielder David Silva.

The Spanish club have debts of £400million, with a new £250m stadium needing to be funded, and they have already rejected one bid of £17m bid for Silva from Atletico Madrid.

That figure is reportedly lower than Benitez expected Valencia to demand for the player, and the Liverpool boss could use his former connection with the club to strike a deal.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Doubt it very much but it would be a fantastic summer if it happened.

    David Silva would be quality.

He's a tad inconsistent but when on his game he's pure class.

He could possibly improve on his end product a bit too but I could see Rafa getting the most out of him in that respect.

Worth mentioning that this story is in the Mail though...

You look at Liverpool's signings or targets - Barry, Keane, Silva - and you realise that we really do have a big 2 now rather than a big 4.

Well it's a safer bet going for keane for this money than someone like arshavin as far as the premiership is concerned

Rafa got it right last summer with torres, now we wait and see if he will get it right again. He won't match the goalscoring exploits of kuyt but he'll be a success nonetheless

Keane would be a decent player for all of the top four teams, and I reckon Silva would be a regular starter in all of them. Silva is better than Nani for example, and Barry is at least on par with Carrick. I don't get the argument.

No, but he's worth more to us than 5m because he can play 3 different midfield positions, and we've sold a fair number of squad players so we can't afford to sell versatile subs.
