Very good news for Wolfsburg. Dzeko is a class player, and he is still young and has huge potential.

Wolfsburg have a class team, and they have the money to keep it together and further improve it, like they actually did this summer. It won't be easy for the 'established' Bundesliga top clubs to keep them in check.

    Erm

They should have signed Pavlyuchenko instead.

Btw, had to laugh though when I read the thoughts of a Bayern supporter about Pogrebnyak the other day...

Well, he isn't that wrong, isn't he? Wink

Hleb is a great signing though. ok

I can't agree with that Bayern fan. Pogrebnyak's first touch is not as bad as he believes, and his finishing is actually better than Kurany's. If anything, he appears to be 'lazy' sometimes, is not such a hard worker like Pavlyuchenko. But he definitely is one of the best Russian strikers.

Like I say, I think Martins is very much a central striker - I don't think he can play as a wing-forward, as one of the wide players in a 4-3-3. We tried him as a wing-forward on a number of occasions, and he never looked good as one, though admittedly he played out wide mostly under Allardyce when the whole team was a mess and lacked structure, and he tended to play on the right, whereas I think he'd be a little better suited to the left.

Ultimately, he just knows how to play as a central striker; he doesn't run the flanks particularly well, nor does he have the vision or the crossing ability to supply people from out wide, and he isn't good at dribbling down alleys, in enclosed spaces; he is better occupying two centre backs than one full back, holding up the ball and stretching defences from a central position. He is more a Drogba than a Rooney or an Arshavin or a Messi or whomever; he worked best for us in a 4-3-3 when he played at the head of the formation; in a 4-4-2, I think ideally, he'd play slightly ahead of his partner rather than behind him, though I think he should be able to complement Dzeko or Grafite really well.

My favourite German team since I was about 11 or 12 and I got a "501 German Goals" Video for my birthday - there were loads on there from this man:

The journalist asked why youngster Müller started in the friendly against Milan a few days ago, instead of Luca Toni, and if he is ahead of him in the pecking order now. Van Gaal, who was in a very good mood up to this point, Bayern had just spanked Milan 4-1, got angry and told him that he expects journalists to be professional enough to know why Toni couldn't play (he was injured). Then the Bayern press officer tried to explain why, but Van Gaal didn't allow him to, "he should know that" he said. Angry Van Gaal left the press conference after that.

    Bundesliga, 02.08.2009

    http://vfb.de/de/aktuell/news/2009/32406.php
Now that our website has confirmed it... Welcome, Pavel! May you fare as well as your Mexican namesake did. Smile

No. It's because Pogrebnyak's contract in Petersburg expires in 6 months. So just "less than €5m", with no bonuses.

Still think it's a very good deal, if you consider that we (=Werder) pay Donezk €2m just for the loan of Moreno.

4.5, 4.0 million... Who cares - at least it's not the 10 everyone was talking about on Saturday! And for once, we're in the comfortable position of being able to not care much about the "number behind the comma", as we say in German.

10m for 6 month for the Russian Kuranyi would have been rather expensive imo, 4-5 is okay though I think.

On the other side he earns 4m Euro per year at Stuttgart, far too much if you ask me.

We paid 2m for one year Moreno, but then again he only earns ~1.5m Euro per year.

I don't know where you get this "Russian Kuranyi" from. He was devastating at times for Zenit, strong in the air, a physically imposing target man, can hit it with both feet from longer and shorter distances and take decent free-kicks. You confusing him with someone else?

Try reading page 19, Allez. Wink

I think Pog is a decent striker, but nothing special. He's overhyped imo and Stuttgart could have done better, and 4m per year is far too expensive.

Well, maybe he will prove me wrong, and make me look like an idiot once more, but until then I stick with opinion about Kuranyi reloaded. Wink
