    Er, 11th. Equal with Stoke on 45 pts. I think they fit in the 'happy to survive' camp

    Stoke were well safe. Wigan had a horrendous end to the season. They were also in the hunt for Europe in the latter stages.

    Wigan are the new Charlton Athletic - get to 40 points as fast as possible, then start summer break 2 months early.

    Oooh, just been doing some reading and Spurs fans aren't happy with the Bassong signing. Apparently Dawson is better and they seem to expect Bassong to be 4th choice for YEARS. They seem to think they've bought a black Callum Davenport. Spurs fans. Ale

    Where the fuck have you got that? Just about everyone on PD is happy with him:

    Bassong is head and shoulders above any Newcastle player, and was rightly linked with Arsenal earlier in the transfer window [don't know why the never purchased him, especially after the sale of Touré too].

    He is young however, and may be prone to a mistake or two.

    You have to remember that even good players can look worse off in a team that are playing rubbish. If you supported another team, would you have wanted the Jonathan Woodgate that featured in our first 8 games?

    That's the general view on it.

    Who's taking my word for it? Have i hyped him? No, i don't really remember commenting on him much, but now i will. I think he has alot of potential, he will quickly establish himself in the Spurs team, and will move on after 2 seasons as he is an ambitious boy.

    It's all too easy to dismiss players you've never seen because their team has performed poorly, football fans seem to have a hard time getting their heads around the concept of a "team".

    I don't see why you are getting so worked up about reading a few posts from Spurs fans who are as clueless as the rest of us about how good he is. The natural reaction from fans is to be skeptical if you don't know about a player. Sure being a part of a newcastle defence is never good for a CV but we'll see how he does. He'll certainly get the chances with the crocks Spurs have

    I'll hold you to that. This time in 2 years if Bassong has settled into the first team (and let's be honest, for 8 million Redknapp hasn't bought him to warm the bench), I bet you he won't be going anywhere Ale

    Let's be honest though, were King and Woodgate not perma-crocks, we probably wouldn't have signed him. Unless your going to tell me he's better than them because he play(ed) for Newcastle and King and Woodgate play for Spurs. Which pretty much forms the basis of 99% of your arguments.

    @Debbie,

    Pav wasn't signed by Redknapp,

    but that aside I don't think I need to tell you that 8million for a defender is a lot of money, whereas not so when it comes to strikers.

    @Kimberly,

    I'm convinced you make up these arguments in your head. The great Solano Lennon debate only became a longwinded discussion because you were being typically 'tarded trying to claim Lennon as a nothing more than a shorter, chavvier version of Usain Bolt

    The argument was already in full swing before i called him a pace merchant. It started when people tried to tell me Lennon is as good as Solano, don't blame it on me. I was really aghast, i wasn't expecting someone to say that.

    Sticking to the theme of women's first names - don't talk twaddle Glenda,

    Just how many defenders cost 8 million even in today's inflated market?

    It's a lot of cash for a central defender, but at least we actually need one. Unlike forking out 14 million on Bentley only to become Lennon's bitch (interestingly I'd be tempted to bump the thread from a few season ago when Kimboner was rattling on about Bentley being better than Lennon ; infact you'd be hard pressed to find a right winger in World football who Kimbo doesn't or hasn't at some point rated higher than Lennon, so a moot point).

    By the way, the question I asked ("Just how many defenders cost 8 million even in today's inflated market?") isn't rhetorical, I want an ACTUAL figure Glenda

    Oh fuck off, like i was the only one that thought Bentley was better than Lennon, just because he has done shit at Spurs it doesn't mean he wasn't a very good player at Blackburn. He had 2 very promising seasons there, you can't just pretend it didn't happen. He might still have a better career than Lennon if he moves.

    I've no need to be biased, i think Bentley is a prick.

    Sticking to the theme of women's first names - don't talk twaddle Glenda,

    Easy now Kimmy, don't lose your rag, we've all had a bit to drink Razz
