Linked to Willian from Shakhtar. Would also be cup-tied for the CL, but at least he's a midfielder.

if we were now to have a 25-man squad this would be it:
Valdes, Pinto, Jorquera
Puyol, Marquez, Pique, Henrique, Milito, Abidal, Maxwell, Alves, Muniesa
Toure, Busquets, Keita, Xavi, Iniesta, Gudjohnsen, Victor Vazquez
Henry, Messi, Ibra, Bojan, Pedro, Jeffren
I left out Fontas, Jonathan, Thiago and Gai who have had some playing time in pre-season. Not sure whether Muniesa and Jeffren would only be called up for certain games when required.

No idea, although Pep has called up a full squad of 24 players (except Iniesta and Marquez).
If I had to guess, I'd say Pep will probably play close to full strength:
Valdes
Alves-Pique-Puyol-Abidal/Maxwell
Toure
Keita-Xavi
Messi-Bojan-Henry

Is he still playing 4-3-3? I thought that with Ibra's signing they were going to go for a 4-1-2-1-2, it would certainly help Bojan.

I think the 4-3-3 will still be the default starting formation, with alternatives used for parts of matches. Too early to say for sure anyway, since the only game where Ibrahimovic played so far was the kid-infested friendly against City. Tonight and Friday will tell us what Guardiola has in mind.

According to Marca, Zola is in Barcelona to discuss a loan deal for Gudjohnsen.
That's ridiculous, no way should it be allowed IMO. The guy is in the last year of his contract and will be on a free next summer anyway...why shouldn't we just keep him then, even with his 60k a week in wages.

Do you really feel that strongly? What is Gudjohnson going to do except play in a few Copa del Rey matches and a handful of 10-15 minute cameos at the end of matches you are already winning? I don't understand you lot. On one hand you always go on about how awesome your cantera is but in the same moment you want to keep Gudjohnson and sign Chygrynskyy.

It is amazing how bad Barca are at getting decent money for players though. Inter Milan seem to be equally bad.
I think Guddy is a good player that hasn't quite settled into Barca's way of playing, and I personally think one of their youth players (Dos Santos/Thiago) could step up now and adequately replace him. The only thing they wouldn't be able to immediately replicate is his goal threat, but Thiago looks like he could be the sort of player to score a few once he matures.

Erm....the man scores like 3 goals per season. I'm sure they could replace that quite easily.

Tbh I thought he had scored a bit more than that. But this is someone who nearly scored with 1/3 ratio at Chelsea, he's someone that goals have come naturally too. Thiago and JDS are both very different players (particularly the latter), but I guess if Guddy has only been averaging a couple of goals at Barca each season it won't make much difference.

Well, I think at Chelsea Gudjohnson played a lot further forward. He only ever play in midfield for Barcelona and in that case probably Thiago and Dos Santos are better replacements because they are naturally midfielders. Anyhow, he was a weird signing by Rijkaard in the first place and had contributed very little in his three years at the Camp Nou.

My question at the end of my post was rhetorical, I don't actually want to keep Gudjohnsen. He offers nothing to the team - definitely not goals. But as Calidad says, it's ridiculous to lose him on a free - we may not need him, but West Ham do, so let them pay. Like the Etoo deal, I support the club in terms of the sporting decision, but disagree with the financial side of it.
@Jaime: there's a difference between having a good academy that gradually produces players for the first team, and having a squad that's getting dangerously close to the Arsenal model.
Gudjohnsen and Chyrgynsky are two separate cases here - you're right in saying that the former's 10 min cameos and Copa games can be replaced by someone like Thiago (who has impressive passing ability when there's no pressure on him, and good movement into open space to receive the ball, but needs to work on the defensive side of the game).
But in defense, we only have Puyol-Pique-Marquez for the middle, and Alves for the RB spot. Perhaps Henrique, but it looks like his signing is another mini-disaster (that is a separate issue in itself).
Marquez is injury prone, and let's not forget that either him or Pique may be needed as DM during the African Cup. So Chyrgynsky would be strengthening an important position and would get quite a bit of playing time.
You really think we can go through the upcoming congested season with such a small squad? Just 17 or 18 first team players, and the rest are kids with no experience and definitely a big deficiency in terms of being able to handle the physical level of first division games. It's one thing to play Muniesa for the odd game here and there, another to have to start with him for 5 games in a row. As Pep said, you can't put too much pressure on kids too early.

I think the main problem behind the Chyrgynsky signing is that he is Shaktar's captain and already a fixture in his national side. I'm not sure he wants to give that up to sit on the Barca bench.
There is definitely an argument that a club's 4th choice CB could/should be an academy player given they have the talent, though I accept the admission that Marquez is increasingly injury prone.
The forgotten man in all of this appears to be Milito. Perhaps his career is over.
