I remember being laughed at when I wrote that he was England's best player at the U21 Euros last year, and one to look out for.

Skills and passing are great, but football is about running, stamina and spirit, too. When will the so called 'purists' ever understand that? 'Pure' football without any kind of physical exercise is called Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.

Not entirely sure how the seeding works but I think they do it this way so that you don't have teams travelling over ridiculous distances between games between the groups, knock outs and quarters.

Agree it would be more interesting to make it random but we've avoided Brazil and Spain until the semis this way Very Happy

They can't really because they have to space out the dates so one country doesn't get several days more rest than their opponents.

I like the notion as we write Capello is working with his squad and is relishing the opportunity of using Milner at right CM and placing Lampard on the left side where he seems to play often with Chelsea knowing that Milner has the energy to cover both sides he may let lampard get up there and do what he does better than any player in an England shirt making the best final pass inside the penalty area finding a goal scorer. The usual plan pass, pass, pass make your players chase shadows then it will lead to your defenders going back so deep(Terry marshalls your defence right? Laugh ) they are literally on top of your goalkeeper.

This normally leads to England being pinned back into their own half but this time it will be different there is a killer touch i.e Euro 2000(given a two goal lead and all)

Funny how some people negatively felt about Milner.

Just to add my two pence. Gareth Barry is the single most important player in the England team. He is the link between attack and defence. He is the player Capello has built his team. If he is injured we only have Carrick as a replacement, i.e. we are fucked.

James Milner has never played the holding role, so like a typical english supporter we are going to stick him there in the middle of a world cup.
    Suspect

Its a good thing Capello is the Manager. Rolling Eyes

Milner has 0 chance of being a starting player, but yes he can be a utility player on the bench, like Dyer was, and Sinclair, Barmby etc. I don't think it's really worth getting overexcited about. Adam Johnson is probably a more exciting prospect.

    lol! lol! lol! lol! lol!

I like that Schweinsteiger was converted to a central player.

Beckham, Schneider, Karpin were all very good but they were late 90's early 00's players - you need pace that they and Schweini haven't got to play in a wide position now.

I wish we would do this with Downing who is a very decent passer but lacks pace.

    ok

Milner may not of set the world on fire what is clear the players potential is there and many cannot see.

With the WC over can anyone still not see Milner playing a roll in a future England middle ? Maybe not.

After what I have seen Milner and another young ball playing youngster would be a good change going forward. Ale

I'm sorry, what the gibbons is this all about? Has the situation changed? Has Milner done something amazing that i've missed? I still see him as a squad player.

I don't think Pigclimber and Milner are all that similar, the pig has a better physical presence and is better technically. There are still many players i would pick ahead of him in CM. <Ale>

He was a starter Bucko!!!!!! Wink

Kimbo right now England are not lucky enough to pick excellent talent we lack it in most areas. For now Milner is a better young player t at least start off with going forward If he keeps playing in the Middle.

2 good crosses in 2 games, so what? Plus he was playing on the wing, not in the middle like you want him to.

Anyway, i'm not sure why you think a point has been proven, we're at the same point in this debate as we were when this thread was started. You say England doesn't have the talent. Do you actually believe that? Are you writing off Rodwell, Huddlestone, O'Hara etc?

Cattermole wouldn't last 5 minutes in international football, he plays like Gattuso in an alcoholic rage. I still remember him launching himself at Beye and breaking his ankle, Beye was in a totally innocuous position around the halfway line and Cattermole was simply looking to take him out.

Whilst I won't dispute his willingness to lunge in at people it is a myth he can't play football. Also name me one other alternative to Hargreaves in the destroyer role. I can only think of Muamba pale

There is talent there like you most coaches and clubs they write them off before they get a start.

Milner in the England side acted the same way Hargreaves did as a fringe player with the EPL stars running the house when he started up. If you watch the games even his teammates treated Milner that way an outsider. A big reason England are crap.
