Surely it would be Villa playing there. That's where he scored all his goals in the World Cup from.

Yea but for the other 99.9% of his career he has scored them from a central position. A bit like Iniesta he can a do a job there, but it's not his natural position, even if he does at times drift wide.

He would do nicely there IMO, but it would probably require to drop Iniesta and play Keita along Xavi as CM.

Keita is no better defensively than Iniesta IMO.

He is, if you gonna ask your CM to track back heavily, with a LWF (Ibra) having a Ronaldinho-like free role, without any defensive responsibility.

I'm not convinced. Some of Andres' best games ever for me came against Benfica, Milan + Arsenal in the CL about 3/4 years back when he played as the deepest midfielder. He obviously doesn't play like a Gattuso for example, but he's fairly adept at intercepting, and his passing from deep is excellent. I've never seen Keita play so deep before.

I actually think Iniesta does his best work from a deeper position, and this all fairly moot anyway I guess as he won't be dropped in favour of Keita regardless of formation/personnel selection.

I can see him playing there, he will just be a left sided Messi - who gets more shooting chances than anyone else on the team anyway.

Either that or they play Messi behind Villa and Ibra. I'm not convinced Guardiola would play a forward line of Iniesta-Villa-Messi. There's no variation there, it would be the most predictable Barca could play. Not that it wouldn't work against 95% of La Liga teams though.

For me there is a difference defending playing as a deepest central midfielder (I have no doubt Iniesta would do a decent job there defensively, combined with more than adequate passing game) and defending when you are playing higher up the pitch and you have to help also on your left side, when left forward doesn't have any defensive duties. It requires plenty of running and an excellent stamina, if you want to be active defensively, as well as offensively. Keita is much more suited to that role.

Zubi is pissed about DB recent calls up, the only barca player he didn't call up is iniesta.

    http://sport.es/default.asp?idpublicacio_PK=44&idioma=CAS&idtipusrecurs_PK=7&idnoticia_PK=723396

add that to alves,Ibra,JDS and probably a few others and it will leave us very short for the copa against sevilla.

according to sport, fontas and JDS will be promoted next season.

Both expected, as the defense was clearly short of a man, an fontas while he may not be the most talented of out crop of defenders, fits into pep's philosophy of promoting players of a certain age group.

Thiago is better than JDS, but pep seems to like JDS more and he is in the 20+ age group, which pep seems to think is the right age to give players a proper run in the first team.

    Just use Thiago god dammit.

We should be trying to sign a Defensive midfielder.

Watched Alou Diarra over a weekend - he was at fault for Montpellier's goal (got beaten by a smaller and quicker player following a free kick cross, great cross to be honest), but he did look like a player who would suit well playing as Busquets replacement, good anticipation and positional sense. Not sure about his ability to play as CB for team like Barcelona though.

So, if Ozil is in...can somebody post a reasonable starting line up?
If we dont defend at all, e.g. against RM or similar small teams, then Ozil, Xavi and Iniesta in the middle and Villa, Ibra and Messi in the attack makes sense.

You could also drop Busquets, move Iniesta to centre midfield and play Dani Alves.

If Pepe had any balls he would field a truly attacking lineup:

    ---------------Valdes

    ---D. Alves---Pique---Maxwell

    Iniesta-----Xavi-----Hleb-----Ozil

    ----Messi----Zlatan----Villa

As it is he is a coward who will no doubt park the bus starting with the first match against Racing. ok

    So what do we prefer:

    1) Blow all the money on Javi Martinez/Mascherano and Ozil
    2) Bring in a sub for Busquets and save some money for once..

I must admit I would go for number 2 despite the other being very exiting.

Number 2 for sure, i can't understand we the club doesn't just get a sub for busquets and get it over with.

Recent events seems to make JDS, the most likely back up for him

Barca and Bremen agree deal over Ozil, according to El Pais apparently.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/european/7936347/Barcelona-agree-deal-for-Mesut-Ozil-with-Manchester-United-and-Chelsea-too-slow.html

    Rationale please?

Bremen has denied it, and the deal is subject to peps approval, he has already said the priority is a DM, so i think its just the dailies trying to sell papers after the Cesc Saga.

Their is no rational for this Ozil deal it makes even less sense than cesc, has he is primarily an AM, and i don't think he has the qualities to success as an CM in a barca system.

    Re: Masch

In away his time for a barca move has passes, as last season when we were linked with him it was for him to come in a walk right into the
first XI as a yaya replacement, but due to how busquets has progress a
DM of his class isn't really needed, But at that price and given that
fact that we need a DM, I say buy buy buy.
