Re: Tottenham Hotspur 2011 / 2012
Excellent free kick from Rafael van der Vaart to make it 1-1 against Orlando Pirates.
Brad Friedel did terrible on their goal yes, not the best start from him.
Danny Rose, Spurs best in my opinion.
Bale again dangerous going forward.
Walker and Kranjcar did well when they came on,
but the team overall was better in first half - play flow better when Modric was on.
Both Kaboul and Dawson were solid at the back.
Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Bentley and Friedel rather poor.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur 2011 / 2012
The development team drew 2-2 with Brighton today.
They've done well on their Portugal tour against older opponents.
Andros Townsend scored today, and have shown he's class above in these two games.
Think he'd do well at Premier League level already, good with both feet, skills and speed to trouble most defenders.
Souleymane Coulibaly apparently scored on his debut as well, although he's named as Soli in the match rapport.
Townsend, Soli and Harry Kane mentioned as teh most impressive of the Spurs players against Brighton.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur 2011 / 2012
At the moment I'd take him in stead of Defoe.
Bent certainly suits our current team line up more
than he did when he left.
He doesn't offer much besides goal though,
and last season Pavlyuchenko was the more effective
Premier League goal scorer of the two.
Would have him back, but not at the price it would likely cost.

Explain that one to me slowly..(and not using goals per game given that Pav was left on the bench half the season)

Rafael van der Vaart scored a goal every 172 minute of Premier League football he played last season.
Roman Pavlyuchenko scored every 177 min.
Darren Bent every 185 min.
Gives a more accurate understanding of a player's effectivity than goals per game,
as there's a big difference between playing first 60 minutes of a game,
coming on towards the end, and as often in Darren Bent's case playing the full game.
Robin van Persie = 98 min.
Dimitar Berbatov = 110 min.
Javier Hernandez = 114 min.
Carlos Tevez = 126 min.
Daniel Sturridge = 140 min.
Andy Carroll = 159 min.
Rafael van der Vaart = 172 min.
Roman Pavlyuchenko = 177 min.
Peter Osaze Odemwingie = 178 min.
Darren Bent = 185 min.
Mario Balotelli = 186 min.
Asamoah Gyan = 200 min.
Wayne Rooney = 202 min.
DJ Campbell = 205 min.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur 2011 / 2012
Playing more minutes doesn't mean you automatically get more chances to score, so it's limited as a measure of 'effectiveness'. You can play 30 mins for Man Utd/Arsenal and you might get as many chances as Bent gets in 90 for Villa - so if both result in 1 goal, it doesn't make the Man Utd striker 3x as effective, as they were working from the same amount of opportunities.
Also it's easier to keep up a higher goals per minute when you play less minutes. Pav scored 2 on the final day which probably jumped his rate up considerably. Fact remains that he wasn't trusted to start above Crouch for large parts of the season, suggesting your own manager doesn't rate his effectiveness that highly.
Best stats measure for effectiveness would be conversion rate of chances, but even that would be somewhat arbitrary as it depends how you define a chance.

Teen England U19 striker Harry Kane with another brace. His stats looking impressive at all levels at the club and internationally. Top pre season scorer. Might be pushing for squad place by end of summer

The funny thing is that with Bielsa they are moving a little closer to this. But still.

Standard night in Tottenham really.
If it's a serious question, the police shot someone there a couple of days ago. The guy was allegedly involved quite heavily in gangs and crime, had a gun and fired a shot at the police (which lodged in the radio of one of the officers) who had been investigating and following him. The police returned fire and killed him. Obviously it's being investigated now, but a few people (family and friends) protested yesterday and demanded immediate answers - presumably because they don't think he fired a shot. Plenty of others highjacked the protest and started rioting and looting. A few buildings were burnt down, a few vehicles, and loads of shops were trashed and people made off with all the merchandise inside.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur 2011 / 2012
That incident and the way it got handled was the straw that broke the camels back.
Whilst the scenario of him firing the 1st shot is certainly possible it hasn't been confirmed as the truth, not even by the police.
There appears to have been a peaceful protest for a few hours over the shooting of the man. This isn't America, we should have people shooting at police and police armed with sub-machine guns firing back but that's a different point.
Certain eye witnesses state that a 16 yearold girl approached the police and they responded by battoning her to the ground thus kicking off a riot that lasted till the sun came up.
There is a great deal of poverty in the UK, things like this will surely have to be expected. As well as the TVs and clothes looted, there are images of people steeling food - that's right, food, and this to me speaks volumes.
Certain groups in society feel isolated and abandoned, the police are increasingly seen as being the vanguard of the bankster controlled governments and in a place like Tottenham it was only too likely to only need a small incident to trigger a greater one.

We actually won - I didn't notice anything because the stadium is at the North end of Tottenham (between Angel Edmonton, Northumberland Park and Lordship Lane and I always leave via train at Northumberland Park - the main trouble was a couple of junctions south around Bruce Grove/the top of Seven Sisters).
Basically it was a planned protest that got hijacked by allsorts, and it wasn't just young minorities doing the looting by the looks of things.

The problem with peaceful protests is that they're shit. Governments need to fear the people again, i'm bored of hearing the word "condemn" every time there is a protest.
