I agree actually. Real Madrid need to reform their structures and try to build a sustainable, long term legacy with a manager at the helm who is given time and resources.

I don't agree that it was the galactico policy. It was the post-galactico period of Florentino's second term. He made a mistake of getting rid of Del Bosque and trying to cram Beckham into a team despite the fact that there was no room for him. And after that it all kind of spiraled out of control, then signing mediocre player after mediocre player, bringing mediocre manager and mediocre manager and finally he left. For a while there really was no direction. Then of course Ramon Calderon came and he really made an institutional mess of things. But in Florentino's third term, ok he sacked Pellegrini after a year but then he brought Jose and gave him every freedom to build a long term project. He even renewed Jose to 2016 last summer so it's not for lack of trying to build something more sustainable. Of course the problem is that Jose himself is not sustainable. I am the first one to say that it would great if the club would go back and build a team around Spanish and homegrown players. I don't know if there could ever be a Ferguson at Real Madrid. My suspicion is that it would never work at any Spanish club let alone Real Madrid. But to be fair, in the time that Ferguson was at Man Utd there have been 25 managerial changes in Real Madrid and in that time we've won 3 CLs and 11 leagues compared to 2 CLs and 13 leagues for Man Utd. So maybe the 'ideal' of one manager who stays forever is a bit overrated anyhow.blutgraetsche wrote:I agree actually. Kind of like the working world. While sustainability and patience are importance, you also need to have agility to adapt to the modern landscape which is constantly changing. I don't think we'll ever see a Fergie-type tenure again but five years in a job should be enough to achieve your goals

Re: Real Madrid CF 2012/13
Nobody says that Real Madrid should try to emulate Manchester United - Ferguson will remain a very rare exception in modern football. What Madrid should try to do first is to build an identity. This doesn't mean that they have to stick to the same manager for decades, but build a 'philosophical' foundation that remains intact even when managers are replaced with others. No matter who manages Barcelona, their fundamental football philosophy remains the same. If anything, it has evolved over the years, but the ideals, or rather foundations, have to be respected. Real Madrid don't have this kind of philosophical consistency anymore. What is Real Madrid's football philosophy? What does Real Madrid stand for? Not just as the biggest brand in club football, but on the pitch?

Re: Real Madrid CF 2012/13
Madrid have never really had a philosophy at least not for the past decade are two, their philosophy is winning and trying to play good football, but winning first. which explains capello and Jose, if they aren't winning for a while they will sacrifice good football to win. The only philosophy is that they always had a core ground of home grown players, which most clubs tend to have when they are successful

Re: Real Madrid CF 2012/13
No you are right. There isn't a clear philosophy on the pitch. Jose was supposed to give us one. Of course this would have been contrary to this historical philosophy but at least it would have been something but he didn't give us anything really. Now Super will argue that it was because the media pressure didn't allow him to forge a typical Jose team. But I say if that is the case then he is really a coward with no conviction to buckle to the media. Florentino backed him 100% to do whatever. So if Jose ended up somewhere in the middle (which is really nowhere) then it is his fault.blutgraetsche wrote:Nobody says that Real Madrid should try to emulate Manchester United - Ferguson will remain a very rare exception in modern football. Re: Real Madrid CF 2012/13
Philosophies can change. Cruyff had a huge influence on Barcelona, for example. In recent years, Klopp in Dortmund, Van Gaal's stint in Munich or Wenger's years in London come to mind. Sunstainable success needs planning, a philosophical foundation and time. Of course Real Madrid can win the CL once in the next few years by signing great players and some of the most renown managers in the game. What they won't achieve this way is a winning legacy, an era of dominance similar to Barca's recently or their own great teams of the past - more than just one CL win and consecutive league titles.

Re: Real Madrid CF 2012/13
A run down of the 8 managers that have been at Real Madrid under Florentino:
No logró conquistar ningún título.
López Caro: Técnico interino antes de la dimisión de Florentino
Solución de urgencia tras el despido de Luxemburgo. Subió del Castilla para dirigir 156 días al equipo. No ganó nada.
Pellegrini: El elegido en el regreso de Florentino
Sólo estuvo un año. No ganó ningún título. Las dolorosas eliminaciones en Champions y Copa le sentenciaron.
Mourinho: Tres temporadas y tres títulos
Es el segundo técnico que más estará en el cargo bajo el mandato de Florentino Pérez. Concretamente, 1.007 días.

Honestly though what is the point of Jose staying for the last two matches? He isn't going to go to any of the pre or post match press conferences. Might as well give the reigns over to Toril.
