Anyone else getting tired of all this come back talk from our players. "Most important game of the season, we are going to give our all, we have to play with intensity....." Blah blah blah. This is the same shit they said before the Man U second leg and the Dortmund first leg. Both times the team perfomance was lacklustre and severely lacking in any passion/intensity. I'm firmly in the persemistic camp. Obviously it would be nice to be proved wrong.

The truth is we haven't had an epic comeback since the 80s! Look we're still calling it the Spirit of Juanito, not the Spirit of Khedira ffs!

Of course that was back when the team was full of Spanish players who actually gave a f*ck! Biggrin That's right Super!!!!!

I'm not counting on it personally. I think the players will start off with a lot of with a lot of energy, maybe even get an early goal. But it's the problem we've had for ages. The midfield isn't good enough to create that many goals, especially not against a good team and especially not when we have to take the initiative.

I think we'll win 2-1 on the night and Dortmund on to the final.

    Hope I'm wrong. Ale

I agree which I wrote earlier as well but I haven't seen that much hype this time around. I remember back in 2009 when it was Liverpool that had beaten us we got a lot of nonesense like you said but I don't see anywhere like the same hype this time around.

I think Jaime is probably right in terms of how the game will go.

Well the club put out a promotional video with all of the players (well the Spanish guys + Cristiano and Higuain....maybe Coentrao was there too I can't remember) all saying "Our strength is you!" with highlights from all of the past great remontadas!

It would take Dormund having an exceptionally bad game for this to happen though. And it could happen, I don't think it's likely though.

According to Spanish radio station, Cadena COPE’s, El Partido de las 12, Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti have agreed to terms for the Italian to move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, to replace current manager, Jose Mourinho, who is presumed to leave Los Blancos and rejoin his former club, Chelsea.

Thinking more about Ancelotti, it would be interesting to see what kind of team he would put out because it seems like he still prefers to play with two out and out strikers. Hard to fit Ronaldo in to that kind of scheme unless he would maybe use Ronaldo as one of the front two.

He won't be able to use his Christmas tree that he used at Milan, that's for sure.

Maybe a 4 - 3 - 3 that he used at Chelsea? I think he used that at Chelsea anyway. That way Ronaldos lack of defensive work rate wouldn't be as much of a problem. You will need a new midfielder or two though. But apart from that I could see Madrid suiting that formation very well.

At PSG he uses a 4 - 4 - 2 I think, which wouldn't work with Ronaldo unless he played as a striker.

Florentino will win because he will face no opposition. There is nobody at the moment that has the financial clout to mount a serious bid

The more I think about the way things ended though, the more frustrating it is to realise that if Alonso, one of the smartest guys out there, had not made such an ill advised challenge to give away the penalty that made it 4-1, we would be through to the final. Not that we really deserved the final after the way that we played in the first leg but still 2-0 is such a manageable result.

But even needing a 3-0, the chances were there. I can't really fault the effort. I knew the team would come out firing and I honestly think the Germans were shitting themselves for a bit. But we just cannot score this year. The Higuain miss was big, I feel bad for the guy for all the things he has done and all the big goals he has scored in the Spanish league over the years, he just cannot get it right in the Champions League. It was a difficult angle and he was being marked closely but if he could have just lifted the ball even a little it probably is in. Ronaldo's chance, well, it was an extremely difficult piece of skill to control the ball and turn and fire off the volley. Good save from Weidenfeller. But the one that kills me is the Ozil chance. All he had to do was square the ball for Ronaldo like Higuain did in the first leg and it's the simplest of tap ins. Instead he goes for the near post? Unbelievable.

Of course after they weathered the storm, Dortmund got into it especially the first 15 minutes of the second half. Lewandowski - what a player. Amazing that we have 250m euro worth of attacking players in this game (Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema, Higuain, Di Maria, and Ozil) and we were single handedly beaten buy a costing 4m euro. The whole Dortmund team is nice. I don't think they are out of this world like some people claim but they play as a team, they attack and defend as a team, and they go for it. So fair play to them, they are deserving finalists.

Where we go from here? Surely this is the end of Jose with his post match comments. Not as if it is a surprise in any way. We've all seen it coming. The players want him to go, he wants to go. I think it has simply run it's course. Even though I am not a card carrying member of Team Progress, I acknowledge that he has done some good things. Winning the Copa del Rey and actually taking it seriously has been a welcome change from the previous 20 years or so and we could even win it again in a couple weeks time. The record breaking league campaign last year was no small feat. And even though he didn't entirely end Barcelona's reign, we've certainly been on top of our rivals the last several times we have met in all competitions. But in the end, he burns to many bridges and whilst all of that is tolerable in the short term, if you are winning trophies, it is just not sustainable in the long run. I'm sure he will return to England which is what he wanted all along and continue to have success.

The prospect of Ancelotti does not excite me in the least. And it is probably impossible to rid the squad of all of the players that are deadwood. Adan, Albiol, Carvalho and Essien (even though he put in some admirable performances at right back) have no future at the club. It is probably the end for Higuain. Personally I'd sell Benzema too and do anything possible to sign Falcao. I pray to god we can find a way to rid ourselves of Kaka. Hopefully Khedira will follow Jose to Chelsea and Ozil, well, my patience has simply run out. I'm 50/50 on Di Maria and Arbeloa. Both have been incredibly poor this year and there isn't a particularly good explanation for it although a lot have claimed that Di Maria's new contract has killed his motivation. I don't know. Pepe - if a good offer came I would sell him. The future of our central defence is Ramos-Varane.

But we have to finally address the midfield. Modric in the second half of the season has played really good. It's a shame he's only been a bit part player because I think he has a lot to offer. Alonso - he is still good and still, really, the only midfielder in the world who does what he does. But you can see today, he plays every game and is just run into the ground by the end of the season. We really need an AM that can consistently create the chances and not wet his pants when a big time game comes. And of course as mentioned before, centre forward.

Obviously we are set in goal with Casillas and Diego Lopez. I think it will be fascinating to see who emerges as the #1 next year. I think with Carvajal coming back we are pretty well covered at full back. Probably need one centre back. But beyond that it is wide open. Probably won't be as many changes as I'd like and some of it will be down to the new manager (hopefully). Will be an interesting summer at least (hopefully).

    Hala Madrid! Ale
