I know you have a problem with this kind of signing but he has very little in common with Khedira and has everything in his locker to become the new Schweinsteiger.

I hope one of them does!!!! Biggrin

It's not that I think he is like Khedira, the problem I have is that to me he is a major unknown. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE said that Sahin was going to come and he was going to put Alonso on the bench, he was the Bundesliga player of the year, best passer in the world, bla bla bla and what did we get? A major fail. I've seen Gundogan a few times in the CL and he looks like a good player (although I think he's being hyped quite a bit) but even a good player does not always translate. I know what Asier Illarramendi can do. The only reason Florentino doesn't want to buy him is because he is Spanish.

More good news, everyone is saying that the big obstacle to signing Isco is Kaka. Grr

But Roncero is claiming that he will leave this summer. First, because the player really wants a chance to make the World Cup he may even be willing to accept a cut in wages which has in the past been the big stumbling block to him leaving. It is also worth noting that for the first time since he joined the club, Kaka is not in any of the promotions for the new adidas kit.

Roncero says that the club want to present Bale and Isco together at the beginning of July.

    We shall see.

Also regarding Isco - apparently negotiations are ongoing. Initially Malaga were trying to stand firm and demand the 35m euro buyout clause. Especially since Man City have bought Navas, Real Madrid are the main suitor in this situation. We've offered 25m + Cheryshev from Castilla and apparently Malaga are intrigued. There was a rumour that the club were willing to include Callejon as well.

    We shall see.

Why not? They will be in the CL next year. Rafa is a high profile manager (even if I don't care for him personally). He and Hamsik can go clubbing together. Would be a great opportunity for him! Biggrin

thats the understatement of the century, sahin never delivered in the CL

Gündogan is since 1 1/2 seasons the top midfielder in die bundesliga, outside of the bayern players

and compared to sahin, gündogan is a completly different type

sahin = alonso (not really mobile, main strength are long balls)
gündogan = xavi, iniesta hybrid (he can dribble, has a huge variety of world class passing, vision, close ball contol, works hard)

Mourinho is especially anti-Spanish but in general the club have not signed many Spanish players in the past decade. If you don't count the canteranos that have come back with buy back clauses from the likes of Getafe or whoever we've only bought six Spanish players (Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa, Pedro Leon, Sergio Canales, and Diego Lopez) since the year 2000 (that summer we bought Munitis, Cesar, and Celades).

On this one I have to agree with overhyping German fellow. Gundogan is a great player and is another good Cl season away from being a top midfielder in the world.

With regards to Cavani it is great news even if I know we will definitely have to pay more than 35M even if we add a player. Add Callejon though and we should be good. However I can't see why they would take Callejon unless Benitez wants to change system(Maggio at Rwb) which might make sense since Cavani+Lavezzi are gone.

I really don't understand it if the club is going for all 3 of Cavani,Isco, Bale. Di Maria will be sold but Isco would still be on the bench. Plus it would have to make a boatload of money.

    Who you ask?

Exactly. Might as well just put Toril if this is all the better we can do.

Isco has suggested that his future could be decided by Sunday. By the looks of things Man City look favourites.

Really poor planning by the board in relation to appointing a new coach, they've known for months that Mourinho would leave.

Don't be so sure about Isco. He's best mates with Morata. And now that Jose is gone Spanish players actually have a chance in Real Madrid! :wink:But seriously if the biggest factor in his decision is playing time he should stay at Malaga. Because there will be just as much competition for places at City as RM even if Pellegrini is there: Silva, Navas, Nasri, Milner - it's not as if he would a guaranteed starter there either.

I'd be surprised if he didn't start at City. The only one on his level is Silva. Nasri is on a constant downward spiral, and Milner, well yeah, we'll leave that there.

I'm serious. If his name was Milnersson people wouldn't think he was sh!t. It's become a big cliche to hate on English players.

And he had a big price tag (which isn't his fault) so nobody pardons even a little mistake or a bad performance. It's the same with Coentrao at RM. If Coentrao had cost 15m euro instead of 35m euro nobody would have a problem with him.

If he were still playing for Aston Villa he'd get plenty of credit. There's no need for workhorses, even talented ones with a great work ethic, when you're Manchester City and you can get Ribéry and Robben to work that hard for the team with the right management. With the right coaching at City, things could and presumably will be different there too.

Napoli's president De Laurentiis has come out and said that Real Madrid are the only club to make a formal offer for Cavani. He also said that the player has a 63m euro buyout clause for anyone who wants him. At least it's encouraging that he is one of the targets and that he isn't just being swept under the rug because all the attention is going towards Bale.

Wow I can't believe you actually like as progressive a player as Milner and I of course agree here although I don't know that it is his Englishness that does it but rather his style.

    Allez
What Heynckes achieved with Robben+Ribery is quite exceptional but also rare. That is why we have seen teams through the years employ workers or facking runners as Kroos would say. Park Ji Sung, Kuyt, Ramires(when he plays offensive positions) and Milner fits right in that mould. Michael Cox from Zonalmarking has argued and I think he is right that City's best wing combination has been Silva+Milner in terms of balance and consistency. Barcelona has used Pedro in a similar way and Real succeded with Callejon last season. The only exception I can think of where a player of great talent was converted into a workhorse role was Eto under Mourinho during the Cl campaign. Eto was very unselfish but by the next season he wanted to play upfront. Then you have the likes of Rooney and Tevez who enjoy doing the work. It's those types I would pursue when building a team. Which is another reason for us to buy Cavani.

Yeah, but all that is happening before Ancelotti becomes coach Razz

Assuming this Isco deal is going through I would like to highlight something that might quell the Spanish Inquisition a bit.

    -------------Iker/Lopez

    Arbeloa/Carvajal----Varane/Pepe-----Ramos/Albiol----Marcelo/Coentrao/Nacho

    ---------------Alonso/Casemiro-----Modric/Khedira

    --Di Maria/Callejon--------Ozil/Isco/Kaka--------Ronaldo/Jese

    ----------------Benzema/Morata*

That is 12 Spanish players in the team! of which only Ramos, Albiol, Alonso, Isco didn't play for a Real Madrid youth team.
Can we now please end the "there aren't enough Spanish players" diatribe.

The HUGE infusion of Spanish players and Mourinho leaving...coincidence:?:Erm

Can we now focus on getting the type of players who will actually make the team better? You know FOREIGNERS!
Being a good compromiser I think the SPANISH speaking Cavani is perfect.Ale

*Perez, having fallen for the U-21 hype, promised Morata personally after one of the games that he would be in the squad for next season.
