That is true. Plus Juup was coming to the end of his career anyway and Guardiola was available so it made sense to go for him.
It does appear, however, that Pep is tinkering too much too soon.

müller - he is no midfielder, pep find a position for him, average
shaqiri - awful passing, the next nani, good skills, but no end product
mm- shit
robben - our best performer, well he was the only one in his main position
still a lot of work to do for pep, field players in there positions you CONTE

Come on, Thiago has been at Bayern a matter of minutes. There will always be a bedding in period.
I'd be more worried how your stand in goalkeeper managed to make 7 erroneous passes. #Hoofballon

Thiago is no holding midfielder though. Against better opposition, especially such as Dortmund who are the most dangerous team on the break, a single defensive midfielder (who isn't even a proper one) is a recipe for disaster.
That starting formation of Bayern was almost arrogant. Even the likes of Schalke or Leverkusen could beat them if Guardiola continues to give Thiago that role (and the rest of the central midfield remains so attacking). Or well organised sides like Mainz or Freiburg even.
Very talented footballer whose strengths are better used further up the pitch. That pass to Müller who almost scored at the end of the match was a good example for this. He lacks defensive positioning, composure, patience and the ability to read the game from the defensive perspective to be a truly great #6. His vision and ability to play defence splitting passes however is top notch.

Re: FC BAYERN - KINGS OF EUROPE 2013/14
Bayerns dominance is ridiculous, but to be fair, Sao Paulo are not the benchmark, hardly a challenge for the new Bayern midfield (still believe that Schweinsteiger is the right choice for the #6). But their wastefulness is a problem imho, way too many good chances wasted.
Nice passing moves and dominance are fine, but rather pointless without goals. At the end of the day, you need somebody to convert those chances. Maybe selling Gomez wasn't such a great idea after all. Bayern actually put a ton of excellent crosses into the box, unlike Barcelona, but fail to convert them.

São Paulo have been horrible lately in Brasil and they just signed Autuori as manager. He's still finding his best team.
Bayern did waste several chances, the closest to scoring was Pizarro's shot which was cleared off the line.

São Paulo is in the relegation zone in the Brazilian League. Some São Paulo fans have been saying it's their worst team ever in history (they've never been relegated).

Good save by Neuer on the pen btw., considering how the Sao Paulo player stopped before shooting.

My German brother-in-law supports Stuttgart but he also supports German teams abroad. I think it's strange. I wouldn't dream of supporting a Brazilian rival abroad, as most Brazilians I know.

Re: FC BAYERN - KINGS OF EUROPE 2013/14
I wouldn't say that I "support" Bayern though. But it's true that many Germans want to see German clubs do well in Europe, even rival clubs. At the end of the day, it's to the benefit of the league and hence their own clubs, as those UEFA coefficient points determine the number of CL and EL places the league has.
Another reason, probably the more important one, is mentality. In Germany, clubs are of course important, but there is a sense of "responsibility" for the bigger picture, for German football as a whole, the national team in particular, which has a very important standing, in contrast to England, for example, where the league is a lot more powerful and important and couldn't care less about their national team.
I'm not just a Werder supporter, I also support the national team and hence have a strong interest in German internationals doing well. Bayern tend to hoard a good number of the best ones, unfortunately. I'd like to see them spread more evenly amongst Bundesliga clubs, but what can you do, that's modern football.

Here in Italy we've got the best of both worlds.
We root for european opponents to mercilessly crush our local rivals, and then if that happens we blame them for letting italian footie down.
