Ashton has scored 80 goals in 214 club appearances...

he has also done great for both West Ham and Norwich in the premiership in a short time while being unfit....for Crewe he was unbelievable....

Hes a class striker and hes only 22

I don't think you can judge him on his time at Valencia LSR. He had to displace Albelda and Baraja at his best and when he was brought over from Auxerre he was still a striker.

Rafa's basically convereted him into a defensive midfielder and he's done very well there. He's just hte source of ridicule by many on this board for some reason or other. I can honestly say - and I doubt you'll find a Liverpool fan who disagrees - that he's been top class for us

I think the voting thing was tongue in cheek or done just to annoy people. He's not in Ronaldo's or Cesc's class, we all know that. He's still been quality though.

And he's certainly not overrated by this forum. If anything it's the opposite

erm.. no! He was rated highly by the valencia fans and i was impressed almost every time i saw him. One of the few matches i wasn't impressed by him was against barca when he was played on the right of midfield.

I don't understand how Xavi is considered overrated, when the only time I ever see his name mentioned by non-Barca fans on these boards is in "most overrated players" threads like this one.

I think you got it wrong.. he was a bit of a joke in Spain and comitted millions of fouls. Nobody could understand why he was playing and his infamous "I am off to play an imaginary friendly" just made his reputation even worse.

He has improved alot though.

It's a mixture of this board and 606's European board where he was widely considered to be the best midfielder in the world despite not scoring enough, assisting enough or being strong enough defensively.

Ashton is not overated - he has scored goals at a good rate since he's been in the prem, brilliant passing, shooting with both feet and 10/10 temperament.


As for Xavi - I'd like to see stats for Barca's posession v Chelsea and Milan last season compared to the games v the same teams the season before (ie when Xavi played) - could make interesting reading.

Don't be silly Pierre. It's not a case of "falling into a trap". 3 years without a goal is appauling by anyone's standard, unless they're full blown defensive midfielders and Scholes certainly isn't that.

I'm not saying he wasn't world class. I'm just saying he's not the world beater that this board made him out to be.
