    Touchy waft...

Do you think you'll still have Buffon by the start of next season?

I quite fancy him as a replacement for Lehmann

I don't think he'd move to arsenal to be honest.

If he left it would be to one of the biggest clubs, he'll probably stay.

He apparently wants to return to Germany to end his career, I think he said in an interview that he may return next summer

Arsenal fans may not like that but its true.

I'd be really surprised if he choose Arsenal over Milan, or a number of other big clubs. He'll probably be back in Seria A next year anyway.

I hope Jens can be convinced to stay for 1 more year. If we sign a new goalie I'ld rather have Akinfeev than Buffon. He's younger, more likely to stay for a longer period and more talented.

Akinfeev looks a very good keeper, potentially one of the best in the world.

By 18 Buffon was already in the top5 in the world.

Buffon will not move to England unless it is to Chelsea and they will remain loyal to Cech.

He has seen how his Italian counterparts have done in Spain this season and will not fancy a move there. Zambrotta and Cannavaro have been poor this season.

He has said on numerous occasions he wants to stay in Italy. Wenger does not spend 15 million plus on outfield players, let alone a goalkeeper.

    When he was at Parma.

Perruzzi was the Italian number one at this time right.

At that time I would rate van der Saar, Kahn, Perruzzi, Paliuga (sp), Schmeical and Seaman all above him.

when buffon was 18, you were just buying boxers mate

buffon peaked in his 20's IMO
he was on fire when he was 19 then peaked and blossomed when he was in his early 20's-25

He was a keeper with an incredible amoun of potential though, like Akinfeev is today

Now this is a player i was praying for in the summer!
    --------------------------------------------------------

Rossoneri renew Oddo bid Saturday 11 November, 2006

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With no real alternative to Marcos Cafu in the side, Milan are said to be kick-starting new negotiations for Massimo Oddo.

The World Cup-winning right-back was already in advanced talks for a summer move to the Rossoneri, but the deal collapsed at the last minute because Lazio refused to sell.

Oddo has now been given the captain’s armband at the Olimpico, but has made it clear he would relish a switch to San Siro, perhaps as early as January.

The 30-year-old’s contract expires in 2008 and he does not seem intent on a renewal, so a quick sale would be in Lazio’s interests.

The Calciopoli scandal ruled the Biancocelesti out of Europe this year, so Oddo would be eligible for the Champions League with Milan in the latter half of the season.

It’s reported that the Rossoneri have set aside a slush fund of £100m to be spent over the next two transfer sessions in order to revive their fortunes.

While a bulk of that is ready for a Ronaldinho swoop in the summer, more urgent matters require Oddo and a new striker.

Ex-Parma defender Daniele Bonera was brought in for that role, but has shown himself to be nowhere near as effective pushing forward as Cafu.

if Daniele Bonera is no good at RB will he get many games at CB?

why not try for Cicinho, when he gets fit?

I think he could play CB! I would love Cicinho, he is really good! But I love Oddo aswell! Will real let Cicinho go? Didn't they have problems with him, when Capello joined?

i think Capello doesn't rate him at RB, he is too attack minded. thats why he played Cicinho RM instead of Beckham in some games.

if Real sign another CB then Ramos will be there first choice RB.

Roma were linked to Cicinho before he got injured, so i think Milan have got a chance to sign him.

Milan definitly need the crosses coming in from the right! He is good at that, which would help a lot! But Oddo is also equally as good. Not to mention one of the best penalty takers in the world

    I think we do.

Everyone watched serie A back then as it was on Channel 4 - we all got to see him every weekend ok

He was the same as Akinfeev is now - I think you've got your Juve goggles on.

Akifeev has in fact done much more than Buffon had anyway

You saw him every weekend. No you didn't.

I think Akinfeev is good at 20, but he doesn't have a siingle attribute superior to Buffon at the same age.

Someone said he is more talented.

To me, this is clearly nonsence

    Based on what?

You watch the Russian league week in week out do you?

I saw Buffon probably about 5 full games at the age of 18 and I saw a lot of highlights to boot.

Your opinions on Akinfeev are based on what? that he doesn't play for your beloved Juve?

At 18 Akinfeev was playing and winning in a UEFA cup final ok

From 17 Buffon was starting in goal for a decent team in the best league in the world. At 19 he was playing for the country with the best goalkeepers. ok

It's not a Juve issue, if he played for Milan right now, I'd be saying the same thing.

Akinfeev plays for the best team in Russia, also since the age of 17, has won titles with them and has won the UEFA cup and is doing fantastically in the Champs league.

He is also the national keeper

Yes, but Italy produces good goalkeepers by the dozen. Serie A was the best league in the world by some distance at this time.

I wonder how many other goalkeepers in the Russian league you're aware of.

I genuinely think Buffon playing in Serie A week in week out at 18, is more of an achievement, even considering Akinfeev's winning the UEFA cup at 20.

I don't want it to sound as though I don't rate Akinfeev, I think he may well be the best in the future.

Well I am merely trying to point out the bias lacing your opinions Wink

Akinfeev is IMO the next Buffon - there is no-one of his age that comes close to him, sure he may not achieve the potential but if you look at what I said at the start, I said that he has the same amount of potential as Buffon did back then - ie, he COULD become one of the greatest keepers of all time. I can't see what the problem is with saying this as so far he has been overly impressive - IMO the same level that Buffon was at the same age and Buffon is sure to go down as one of the ten greatest keepers of all time, maybe top 5 by the end of his career
