    The final irony

Oh, what cruel irony. In 1974 the fans of Tottenham Hotspur introduced football violence in Holland during the second leg of the UEFA Cup final against Feyenoord in De Kuip. Thirty three years later Feyenoord find themselves banned for the rest of the European season for hooliganism and now Spurs, their would be opponents, may receive a bye into the next round.

    -----------------------------------------

It's not as if their season wasn't pear-shaped already. Over the last two seasons the club depended very much on the strike partnership of Salomon Kalou and Dirk Kuyt, who were responsible for 49 goals during the 2004/05 season and 39 in 2005/06. Their transfers to Chelsea and Liverpool respectively this summer earned Feyenoord approximately £17million.

When De Kameraden started the season with no goals in two games, the fans demanded to know which superstar would be joining the club to replace the strikeforce. It turned out most of the cash was used to pay off several big loans and that the club's financial position was being closely watched by the Dutch FA.

Thanks to the sale of their main playing assets the situation was eased, but it was still red-flagged. While the fans were talking about buying Julio Cruz (Inter Milan) or David Pizarro (Bayern München) technical director Peter Bosz first strengthened the defence with Dwight Tiendalli (FC Utrecht) and Danny Buys from FC Groningen, before plotting the biggest coup since Johan Cruyff joined Feyenoord in 1983.

He brought in Greek Angelos Charisteas, just two years ago the scorer of the only goal in the Euro 2004 final, who had become a largely forgotten striker at Ajax since Klaas-Jan Huntelaar came from Heerenveen. It was the best Feyenoord could do, apparently, on such short notice. The fans felt stabbed in the back.

As if losing such a potent goalscoring duo over the summer was not bad enough, though understandable given the football market, the idea of having an Ajax-reject in their squad as the supposed saviour was too much to bear. Chairman Van Der Herik was widely criticized as the man responsible for years of mismanagement.

Single-handedly saving the club from bankruptcy at the start of the 90s earned him much credit, but the love-affair between him and the supporters suddenly came to an end. As one fan put it: 'Saving a baby from a burning house does not allow one to throw the lad into the river fifteen years later.'

    -----------------------------------------

On the pitch, coach Erwin Koeman is experiencing a troubled season as well, although they are still in the running for a play-off place which could help them into the Champions League and score those much needed millions in cash. PSV are already out of sight for everyone, but the next four teams fight it out for a ticket into the third qualifying round of the European Cup.

In recent games Erwin Koeman seemed to have his act together with Ron Vlaar, who recently returned from injury, and Brazilian André Bahia as central defenders, but in Breda both made some horrendous mistakes, after which Koeman decided to take Bahia off after only half an hour. So he will definitely have some sleepless nights before stepping on the bus to Amsterdam on February 4, when Feyenoord will play the Classic against Ajax.

At least there is one statistic that may give the coach some comfort. On their last seven visits to the Amsterdam Arena, Feyenoord have lost only once. And what happened eight years ago? A 6-0 hammering, but that was just a week after winning the Dutch title. Then no one in Rotterdam minded, now another humiliation at the hands of Ajax might be one too many for some fans.

Very Happy yep thought it was very funny (posted it in off topic myelf). Always thoughts those people with VDH tattoos barking mad.

By the way the KNVB (Dutch FA) has come up with a supportive statement (saying Feyenoord do/did everything to prevent things like Nancy, bla, bla, bla ) to be used by Feyenoord's defence in the CAS case tomorrow.

Not hopeful for the CAS appeal tomorrow. The judges are German Martin Schimke, Brit Peter Leaver and Italian Luigi Fumagalli. In Germany we have aterrible reputation, the Brit will like to punish somebodty else & the Italian will want to show toughness at the moment. what happened in Italy recently will not help either. Hope they're academical lawyers and not media-fanaticals.

Fortunately they can only lower the sentence.

Feyenoord striker Tim Vincken has inked a two-year extension with the Rotterdammers.

Vincken's current contract at De Kuip was due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Feyenoord were keen to hold onto one of their top youngsters and were happy to hand him an extension.

"The contract of Vincken was due to expire this summer and we have made use of the option to extend for two years before 1st April," technical director Peter Bosz said.

"It seems logical to me that we will do that."

Vincken has netted once in the Eredivisie this term, against Sparta Rotterdam in December.

Seems like we are getting rid of Castelen. Still have my doubts over Vincken, it is a good thing to get more players from Rotterdam in the team.....but doubt if he will make it to the top..

Btw, when does that cunt Koeman leaves???

Really angry at Win Janssen / his son-in-law Stanley Brard. They kicked out Scholten (don't mind that, did well but is a wanker) & Henk Fraser (who was doing great & is a hero). This is not about results this is about Brard's personal dislikes. Brard should go. He was a numpty as a player and still is one now. His sister sucks too.

Nothing WUM-ish about that question. That obviously was a wrong call. Don't think we would have been able to buy him anyway, we still had Kuijt & Kalou on board those days. Wrong decision by Tds/scouts happen everywhere, I'm far more angry about the decision regarding Fraser and Scholten. They were doing fine. Fraser, despite being a Spartan, is a true Feyenoorder (even more than Wim Janssen, who had the audacity to leave to Ajax). Should have never been kicked out for personal reasons. Who the fuck think Stanley Brard he is?

By the way we will have more homematches on Saturday evening. The asked the fans in a poll, what would be the preferred KO time. 36% opted for Sunday afternoon (but of those plenty said they wouldn't mind a few evening matches, which tend to have a better atmosphere) and 27% for Saturday evening (including me).

    Blues 'sign Feyenoord starlet'

Chelsea have raided Feyenoord's youth team to sign teenage midfielder Jeffrey Bruma, according to reports in Holland.
Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reports that The Blues have secured the 15-year-old on a prospective four-year deal.

Bruma has not signed a professional deal at De Kuip as he is yet to turn 16, and Chelsea appear to have taken advantage by convincing the starlet to make the move to England.
Sporting director Frank Arnesen (pictured) has exercised his keen knowledge of the Dutch market, developed during a lengthy spell in PSV Eindhoven's managerial ranks, to clinch the signing of the player who will be lifted from Feyenoord's Under 16 team.

The Dutch side have one of Holland's finest youth academies - with previous graduates including Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Robin van Persie and Celtic's Evander Sno - but Bruma will now be looking to rise through the ranks in West London, not Rotterdam.

The good news doesnt stop today!!!

Feyenoord ziet geen toekomst voor Kolkka

    3/4/2007 14:59

<Ale>
