He's the guy that writes for AS?
Yes!
Thanks, thought I'd seen a couple of articles from him before there through the google translator, you get the drift or what he's on about, which is to say usually complete crap.
In one of his articles, he actually claimed that Beckham was so committed to Madrid that he suspected he loved Madrid more than Manchester United. I almost fell off my chair from laughter

Personally i think Becks has made the right decision i think its obvious he no longer be a consistent performer at the highest level.
And instead of being exposed, he has moved to the states, which in hindsight $250M isnt bad.

By going to America it proves he's more interested in being a 'celebrity' than a footballer. He has basically retired from serious football.

How do you see this affecting Madrid's accounts? They knocked Man U off their perch as No. 1 in terms of revenue last year, but when Beckham leaves...

Re: Beckham will leave Real Madrid
Our revenues will obviously be affected but the appeal of Real Madrid goes beyond Beckham. It's not as if it was an unknown club before he arrived. He didn't make us as much money as some perceived anyhow...I think Ronaldo actually sells more shirts than Becks.

Aren't you selling Ronaldo too?
I take your point that it's hardly like you're lacking in high profile players, but you've lost Zidane and Figo, and now Beckham, all in 6 months. That's a lot of shirts, between the three of them...

Personally im kind glad, for all the hard work Becks put in its a pity he wont leave with a thorpy (unlikely tbh), but he brings too much media coverage etc, which has affected the whole team, he's always in the news, and its kinda boring.
As far as Revenue goes, there will be a decline; No ZZ, Figo, Becks, Ronaldo -- will leave. All the galacticos who sold the shirts are gone, and so are the sales.
But recieveing 50% off all Becks' promotional activity will be a bummmer! It was 25M quid from Gilette . Well Becks probably paid for himself 10 times over in shirts revenue.
I think its more important to look success on the pitch rather than the business side.

No, you are right and it's the combined loss of that group of players that will have the real financial impact on the club, as opposed to Beckham's departure alone.

Of course, Madrid have been slowly but surely moving out the ageing Galaticos and that's got to be a good thing in terms of the actual footballing team, and I'm sure you won't be short of a few quid next summer for more signings.
I think that it'll work out. Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo and Beckham may have sold a lot of shirts, but they also took time, effort and spaces in the team away from players who might have done better for you.

Theres no doubt "star" player have hindered the sucess of some of our youth players. But youth players would have been experimental where as the Galacticos pre Becks was guarenteed success.
RM willl always have money, becks and the galacticos have made sure of that, only thing is that we will end up spending 40M pounds on either C.Ronaldo or Kaka in the summer. Which is ridicolous amount of money regardless of them been extremely talented, RM always get "bumped".
But as you said its time to move on: Gago, Higuain, Reyes/Baptista, Marcelo, Casillas, Ramos, Diarra, and maybe Cicinho should be our nucleus for the forth coming seasons.

5 Years is a joke -- he will be 37, and if his performances are falling already, imagine what he will be like at 37. Although MLS football is pants.

Re: Beckham will leave Real Madrid
It's not just that Madrid always have to pay over the odds, it's also that Milan/Man U don't need to sell and definitely won't want to sell.
I reckon that Kaka's your best bet, because Man U look like having a more successful season so Kaka might be persuaded to move more easily.
