Ronaldo to break Cole & Shearer Record ?

In the season 2005/06 .. Frank Lampard scored 16 goals from midfield in the Premiership, a record.

Cristiano Ronaldo this season is on 13 .. and with 14 more games left .. it seems likely he will break the record..

at the moment (Goals from midfield) ..

Yeah I think he'll break it comfortably. He doesn't take the penalties for Man. Utd, does he? Otherwise I guess he'd have broken it by now.

There should only be records on top scorers - not top scoring midfielders.

How do you define midfield ?

If a player is listed as midfield but played virtually up front (like Lampard when they were 4-5-1) is that really midfield?

Besides Materazzi's 12 Serie A goals in a season for Perugia is far more impressive.

Beating Lampard's goal record is nothing. A lot of players will achieve that. Beating his deflection goals record, now there is a challenge. It will take a real superstar to beat that one.

Lampard was a forward the season he scored 16 goals.

I think a test was done which showed that only 8% of Lampard's goals are deflected. (It was certainly less than 10%)

But parky's right. In that season, he more or less played just off Drogba (in a similar position to that which Rooney normally takes up)

He plays right midfield so yes he is a midfielder.

I think wingers are generally regarded as forwards. watch ronaldo's movement and it won't that much different from say a forward like henry.

And his movement is very different to Henry's. Henry only works on one side of the pitch for a start.

Cronaldo doesn't track back or help defensively, and manu look a lot of times to be playing 4-3-3 with giggs-scholes-carrick in midfield with rooney-saha-cronaldo up front.

Rooney actually seems to spend more time in the midfield than cronaldo does.

Anyway officially his position is midfield so well done to him.

Of course Cry Ronaldo is no midfielder, the man is a non-defending winger....it doesn't get (much) more attacking than that.

Same for Giggs, Robben, J. Cole and also Ronaldinho for example : no way they're midfielders !

I can understand it if you count Lampard as a midfielder....but even that is highly debatable (to me he's half midfielder, half attacker).

Next you're all gonna tell me Titus Bramble is a defender....

I think its league goals only, I dont think Pires scored 16 goals in a league.

Ronaldo is a midfilder, doesnt normally take penalties and doesnt score deflections, so if he beat Lamps record, it will be very impressive.
