Manchester United don't have the players to cut off their midfield like we did. I can't see O'Shea doing what Momo did tonight.

Sick of hearing how poor Barca were as if it was in spite of us, not because of us.

Ronaldinho was poor but what was he expected to do, short of beating 3 defenders everytime he had the ball?

Arebeloa on Messi was a master-stroke by the way. Ale

Hats off to Benetiz, Liverpool were not intimidated .. played some good football at times

Kuyt was ready, so was Bellamy and Riise (does he have a right foot?)

Gerrard, I'm sorry did not do anything .. apart from finding Kuyt which led to the 2nd goal.

I now know why Valdes never gets picked for Spain ... Saviola should be upset with himself, should have scored .. Deco, instead of being intimidated by Momo .. nice free kick and goal.

Still the game is not over .. however; Liverpool play Manchester United and Barcelona play Real Madrid? before the second leg.

I think it's Sevilla Barcelona have to play Rai with Madrid coming shortly after. They've also got a cup game next week, haven't they?

We've got Sheffield United at home and United at home. I will be extremely pissed off if the United game is on a Sunday. What a fucking joke that would be.

Although I thought Barca were going to scrape a win tonight, I'm not at all surprised that they lost. For the most part, they've been poor all season, and other than against Racing, I can't remember the last time they've put in a good performance. Won none of the big games this year either, Valencia, Athletico, Madrid, Inter, Zaragoza etc

Wasn't helped by Frank dropping Barca's best player this season (Iniesta) who should leave the club if he doesn't start against Pool in two weeks. Marquez has been abysmal in the centre of defence for sometime now, but was played there anyway. Doh Oleguer should have played, and his form merited a start. Motta shouldn't be anywhere near the starting lineup.

Was disappointed with Messi tonight, though it was his first 90 minutes for a few months. Zambrotta was good. Deco ok. Other than that, no performances of note really.

I don't even think Liverpool were that great, though they were very tactically astute in the 2nd half, and deserved the win.

nah man, nothing i say here will affect rafa's plan. I genuinely believe they have what it takes to win it; good players and most importantly a coach who is one of the top 3 tacticians in the game.

I was gutted at this, especially when barca scored. It was a golden chance and one of the worst crosses you will ever see. don;t know how kuyt missed that open net either. can't wait to see how crouch gets on against them at anfield Smile. Hopefully we get a ref who doesn't give a free kick every time the wind knocks a barca player over. they probably got about 15 non fouls given to them tonight

so far everybody has pointed to their defence and that was bad too but barcas best qualities lie in attacking and they were suprising to say the least. before the game i thought liverpool had a chance of a good result(draw or win) because i thought messi wouldnt play and when he did i though they were gonna have a hard time. and with the line up and a quick first goal i thought for sure they were gonna lose. but benitez showed again why he is a master. people will point to barca being bad but that has nothing to do with using arbeloa(Real player Very Happy ) in his first game and he had messi in his pocket like few has had.
it wasnt all liverpool though. i have seen barca play games like they did when they were ahead 1-0 and just did nothing.and when liverpool got 1-1 they still did nothing. it was first when it got 1-2 that you could see that they were having a really bad day and that other things started to work against them.

A night made all the sweeter by the fact that the blueshite lost to an 89th minute goal.

Can't you just picture their fans? They'll go home tonight, pick the splinters out of their arses and sit down to watch a tape of us getting 'hammered' by Barca... They'll have such wide smiles for the first 42 minutes. Laugh

Wonder if Rafa'll take the kids to mini-golf tomorrow? Good for morale.

Not much to say. We were shit. Valdes and Rijkaard gave Liverpool the game, one with a mistake for the first goal and the other by starting Belletti and then making the substitutions that left us like Real Madrid in a 4-2-4 formation with everyone absolutely all over the place.

Sissoko man of the match, and we're out of Europe. What a shit day.

sissoko was a monster in the second half. the first half he struggled a bit and gave the ball away too much.

jamie redknapp ruined the entire buildup to the game talking his bullshit about gerrard wanting to play in the middle not once having a clue about needing a solid base in the middle to beat barca. the man is a prick

gerrard did well as well pierre. you should catch the game on a rerun. we started well and should have scored then barca dominated for about 20 mins during which time they got a good goal (which gerrard should have stopped) and threatned to rip us apart. but we were always threatening on the break and the second half we made barca look totally awful. could have scored a few more just to rub it in also Smile .

but the tie is far from over

    ok

Have to say COTR, I really can't see you guys losing this one and I'm sure Benitez will have something well planned, even if it does mean sticking 10 men behind the ball, and hitting on the counter. Could well be a boring 0-0, but you'd take that at the end of the day.

With the kop behind you, I really think you'll go through.

Gray was surprisingly placid about it today. I'm the first to have a go at the cunt but today he was the least guilty of everyone. Redknapp was a fucking tool (shock-horror). Trying his best to make out Gerrard was unhappy on the right.

Looked fucking upset when he became only the 2nd captain in the history of british football to walk away from the nou camp having beaten Barca, didn't he Jamie?

Think it was as much a tactical move as anything. He pwned Ronaldinho in round one.

    Was Sissoko good ?

Like you wouldn't believe. I actually think CotR's being harsh with regards to his first half performance. I don't think he made any more mis-placed passes than Xavi or Deco tonight. Infact, I'm certain that he made atleat half a dozen less.

Absolutely stunning tonight. To say he was like Vieira tonight wouldn't do the defensive side of his game justice. He was just top class.

    Who was MOTM ?

    Momo the Super-Star Slayer.

    Checklist for this season:

    Ballack - Total Pwnage
    Lampard - Pwned
    Essien - Pwned
    Deco - Pwned
    Xavi - Total Pwnage.

It will never finish 0-0 barca will go for it. either leave themselves open like idiots like today or get a few goals.
You have to remember they have licence to attack, because they have to score 2 goals, so if liverpool score it doesnt make that much difference.
