Giggs was probably brought up because his attitude to international friendlies - he apparently went nine years without playing in one, claiming he was injured every time he got called up - has been frequently criticised in the past and wouldnt seem to benefit Wales at all, yet as a Man Utd player he is presumably somebody Keane respects. Given, on the other hand, seems to be a player Keane does not respect or get on with, and so Keane has criticised Givens admirable attitude towards international friendlies. Giggs' example for a start suggests ignoring international friendlies doesnt benefit your team, and also suggests that Keanes criticism of Given is only being made because he has a personal dislike of him - Keanes actual point is a load of rubbish.
Keane never says anything worth listening to. He seems particularly keen to display his knowledge this week - 'If only youd asked me two or three years ago, Id have told you Ronaldo would be the best in the world', 'Ive always thought give the reserve players a game' and so on. Why are people not asking for Roy Keanes thoughts sooner? Surely then his foresight would astound us all.
Especially since it doesnt seem like there are any outstanding young Irish keepers to challenge Given, him playing for Ireland can only be a positive thing. Hes one of their best players if not their best, leads by example and seems generally very well respected and well liked.
