tbh I don't think there would be much difference in the strikers, goalkeepers, and most of the midfield. Probably defense would see some changes. Apart from that, it's an interesting point: the "general consensus" world class players have stayed that way for around 2 years!

If I've been following the trends on here correctly I'd say

Out: Cech, Zambrotta, Chivu, Nesta, Gallas, Terry, Lahm, Ronaldinho, Totti, Cambiasso, Henry, Drogba

In: Cesar, Vidic, Pique, Evra, Xavi, Iniesta, Gerrard, Torres, Rooney
+ some other defenders...

You seem to have an obvious brain malfunction regarding Rooney.

Maybe poking your head over the bunker and watching him more regularly might help?

You're right though, this is a MASSIVE season for Rooney now that he is finally given the freedom to play centrally for United and not stuck out on the left and having to come back and defend. Make or break if he is to become a excellent player (which he is now), or a truly great one.

So far, one game down, one goal scored and another stand out performance. Take particular notice of 1 m 33 (Attempted chip) , 1 m 56 (build up play and eventual goal), 4 m 44 (half volley), and the best of the lot at 8.06 - chested pass to put Owen clear through.

Now if you don't UNDERSTAND how much more there is to Rooney than goals, then there is little hope for you

The chested pass was very nice indeed.

Not at all sure that Drogba would be dropped off that list. Agree on the others though.

I think we were all still suffering from a bit of Serie hype back then.

Nowadays I'd imagine that Buffon, Maicon, Eto'o and maybe Chiellini would make a World 23, with players like Chiellini, Nesta, Cambiasso, De Rossi and totti filling the 23-50 gap.

Pique isn't world class. I think he needs another season or two performing to a high level to be even considered. He isn't even a guaranteed first choice for club or country.

I think Barca have 5 WC players (Xavi, Iniesta, Alves, Messi, Zlatan)

Toure if he has another season may enter that bracket (not too many DM's better than him that I can think of)

The rest of the XI are all top class international level players.

Some may want to include Henry I guess, but I'm so sure.

i agree with you about pique, expect for one thing, he is a guaranteed starter for club and country right now.

disagree about yaya the man is WC, their isnt a midfield he couldn't get into in football.

A year ago pique was in utd reserves now he's won the treble beings barca's best defender and he's a regular for spain. Not world class yet but another season or two he would be up there. Better than agger
