You think he is no longer the player he used to be?
Or let me rephrase that... you think Sheva will be worse than Oliveira?

I just think it's a step backwards.
He is 31 this year, and Milan need to sign a big name player that will get the pulses racing. My heart wouldn't skip a beat if Sheva came. Plus he would take a non-EU spot so that would end our interest in Pato (Chelsea would pick him up in that case).
I'd much rather go for Cassano or G. Rossi, and then go for a big name in defence. Let's see what happens...

Makes sense... Cassano/Rossi may compliment Ronaldo nicely, but one is a brat and the other is a rookie. Hate to rub it in, but Suazo would have been perfect

You haven't caught on? Galliani concocted the whole affair just to piss off Moratti! It was sweet, even if for 2 days.

The press is reporting that after Roma rejected Inter's £9.8M offer (this was around the time Real made an offer), Inter pulled out... and then after that, Inter made a reduced offer of £8M

Giuly is in Rome and will have contract talks tomorrow before a final deal of approx. 4 million euros is announced.

Its all very quiet at the moment; regarding transfers in Italy. There doesnt appear to be much speculation or activity, I thought at least Inter would have been buying more players (strikers).
Is it the calm before the storm?

With Jiminez and perhaps Chivu, Inter will actually complete their transfer activity!

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
Inter just bought Luis Jimenez and Rivas, now their squad is only 25 players big, and that's without any youth team players.
Juve's transfers are almost done, though Cannavaro is still an option.
Roma are close to signing Giuly.
Milan are the strangest of all, they haven't done anything in the market so far, while all the top names are getting signed up...and the only rumours we here are Shevchenko, Pato, or stupid ones like Etoo and ROnaldinho over and over again.

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
We will be selling a few, including players who returned from loan... Recoba, Cesar A, & Coco definately must go!
That would make our squad down to 22, waiting for Chivu to complete it. 23-24 is the right size of a squad if you ask me.

Why does Guily want to go to Roma? Isn't the reason he is leaving is because he's not getting first team football? Surely the situation will be the same at Roma...

I think he'll get a starting spot at Roma, as much as his fitness allows anyway...Roma play a very fluid system which needs rotation of the attacking players, and Giuly can go from right to centre very easily.

Who do you think he'll start over? He has to compete with the likes of De Rossi, Taddei, Mancini, Aquilani, Pizzaro, Perotta - and possibly Totti for a starting birth. IMO Roma have the best midfield in Italy.

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
Aren't De Rossi, Aquilani, and Pizarro all midfielders? So it'll be Mancini, Taddei, Perotta, and Giuly for 2 positions. I don't really know the others enough to say if he can start over them...Totti is injured and suspended quite a bit though, so having Giuly will help.
@Forza: Giuly is still a very good player, especially when used to run at opposition defences with his pace (he still has some left). But his shooting can be poor sometimes, though that's mostly down to his confidence level at the time. Also, he's what I call a "rhythm" player - he only reaches his full performance level when he's starting regularly and is at peak match fitness/sharpness. Once Messi emerged, he stopped getting those chances at Barça.

Yea they are Kas, I was just pointing their midfield really. Taddei & Mancini will be his main competitors, though I think Perotta also plays on the wings at times.
They usually lineup
----------De Rossi---Perotta------------
Taddei---------Aquilani---------Mancini
* or Pizzaro

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
Calidad, you got Aquilani and Perotta mixed up. Aquilani competes with Pizzaro for that spot.
And you are right, Guily will be a Taddei back up... Spaletti will get to rotate his attacking players more, speciually the wingers coz with Guily and Esposito, he now has quality backups for both Taddei and Mancini!

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
More correctly, the usual midfield lineup last season was:
--------De Rossi--Pizarro--------
Mancini-----Perrotta-----Taddei
Aquilani can take also Perrotta spot but is more a replacement for Pizarro.
Anyway Perrotta can play anywhere in Roma midfiled.
Well, actually last season Totti started 35 of 38 matches and got just 2 yellow and 1 red.
Anyway yes, at least half a dozen of those 35 caps he wasn't actually fit enough to play, so the more creative backups, the better
