What Roma have done this summer, is completely cover their achelles heel - they always had a quality midfield - one of the best in europe - they just didn't have enough quality players to rotate... hence the inconsistant performances brought due to injuries/tiredness/etc.

Now look at their midfield rotation options:

    ------De Rossi (Perrotta/Barrusso)--Pizzaro (Aquilani)
Mancini (Guily) -- Perrotta (Pizzaro) -- Taddei (Esposito)

Wow! Roma are going to be a serious contender now!! Well done Spalletti!

abundance wrote:More correctly, the usual midfield lineup last season was:

    --------De Rossi--Pizarro--------
    Mancini-----Perrotta-----Taddei

Aquilani can take also Perrotta spot but is more a replacement for Pizarro.
Anyway Perrotta can play anywhere in Roma midfiled.

Yes, and they might sell him for the right price. Milan doesn't want to pay more then 15 mil euro and Udinese wants 20.

Even at £7M, Chiellini is a good deal...

Come to thik of it, Chiellini might be a good option for Inter now that Grosso is gone and Chivu looks unlikely. Juve won't sell to Inter, perhaps we could pay Liverpool £8M Wink

    Angry Chiellini considers Pool
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giorgio Chiellini is considering a move to Liverpool after falling out with Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri. The Tuscan stopper sparked a war of words with his Coach after criticising the Old Lady’s reticence in discussing his contract and may not stay in Turin to fight for a place.

“It is obvious that if he receives limited time in the side next term then other options will have to be looked at,” Davide Lippi stated. “I am sure that if an official offer came from Liverpool, it would be a tempting solution.”

Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported on Monday that the Merseyside club had already tabled an offer of £5m, but that Juve wanted closer to £7m for the 22-year-old. Chiellini is unlikely to feature as the Bianconeri play their first pre-season friendly against Serie C2 side Mezzocorona in Pinzolo on Wednesday.

After selling Grosso to Lyon I hope no Italian player goes to Inter. You guys ruin careers.

According to the Corriere Dello Sport, Pato is a done deal for us and he will join in January with the transfer being announced in mid-August. Also, the same article mentions that we will also sign Julio Baptista.

That report of Julio Baptista seems highly unlikely. Galliani pretty much named the five transfers Milan are working on in La Gazzetta. I really can't see Baptista coming.

Yeah but he also mentioned a 6th name that he "wouldn't reveal even under torture". Laughing But in all seriousness, i wouldn't pay too much attention into what Uncle Fester says these days.

I'd be happy if we end up netting Pato though.

The 6th name was Tevez according to speculation in the Italian media. Hence, why Uncle Fester said it was a "very remote possibility".

The five names were Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Drogba, Shevchenko, and Pato (Barca fans don't shoot the messenger).

Gazzetta is fervently speculating that we are after Quagliarella. I'd be happy with Quag now, and Pato in January.

Milan could also go for a "made in Italy" option. I mean for defence and attack. Barzagli, Cannavaro, Quagliarella. I would be happy with those acquisitions. Schuster, however, wants Canna to stay.

so Sheva it is.. can't honestly see you going for Pato. He is too young to make an impact. Dinho and Eto'o are off the market and there is no way Mourinho will let Drogba leave.

Actually Pato is almost a done deal according to many, but you're right that Milan won't count on him immediately. That's where the Quag option becomes very appealing.

Quag looks a very good player and by the sounds of things he'd be relatively cheap - about £10m.

Pato is a longer term option so someone like Quagliarella would make sense in the shorter term. Barzagli would also be a good addition

Pato will be a breath of fresh air in the Milan sqaud, and it's nice to see them invest in some youth again. It's in danger of becoming a retirement home.

I wasn't impressed with Pato at the U20 World Cup, but he is obviously a huge talent. Both todo & sheva speak very highly of him, and Tim Vickery has nothing but praise for him as well. I quote - "And the best of all is 17-year-old striker Alexandre Pato, who has been touched by the hand of genius." Ronaldinho too, has tagged Pato as the new 'Ronaldinho'...

We really need a tumbleweed symbol for Milan's transfer campaign so far.

If Pato is really as good as he is hyped up to be, Milan should buy him now as he will be much more expensive in 2 or 3 years.

I don't necessarily think signing just Pato will be that bad a move by Milan - this year they'll still have Inzaghi, a fit and eligible-for-Europe Ronaldo, and Gilardino...and Pato can be the 4th striker that plays in Copa games or as a sub. Instead they could maybe sign some more backup in midfield.
