I said to Kas on a different thread that I have always found them a poor team to watch in that they often opt for the long balls to hit the front two. Still Samba, you desperately need to get some points on the board sooner or later. There is still some quality at the club despite those who have left.

We lost 2-0 to Tenerife. In all seriousness, I fully expected us to lose this one. Tenerife are a team that I also like and I have been quite impressed by some of their summer signings. They will certainly make a huge improvement on last year. We need to bounce back at the Carranza against Salamanca - who have made a dreadful start.

    The results in full....

    Córdoba Gimnástic 2-2
    Tenerife Cádiz 2-0
    Poli Ejido R. Ferrol 1-3
    Salamanca Sevilla At 0-1
    Elche Numancia 1-1
    Xerez Albacete 1-1
    Alavés Málaga 0-1
    Granada74 Hércules 2-3
    Castellón Celta 2-1
    Eibar R.Sociedad 0-1
    Las Palmas Sporting 2-2

Cadiz definitely have a team that would be able to survive in the lower half of la Primera division.

BTW Where do you watch the Segunda matches from?

For sure, things look promising. Think we are at least on par with if not above the likes of Recre and Levante for quality.

I haven't watched any so far this season. Usually watch them on telemadrid, which shows one match each week. Thats a good stream off the official site. Also Localia does one match although the TVants stream can be a bit shakey.

Malaga on top with 9 points followed by Racing Ferrol and Numancia on 7 - Cadiz on 6. IMO Real Sociedad although they're on 3 points are in serious danger of dropping into Segunda B. They have the same problems as they did last year, the lack of creativity in midfield (Xabi Prieto being the only player of note) and a goalscorer.

Another loss for us (1 points in three games) in which Quincy impressed out on the left. Some fans are starting to worry, but personally I'm not particularly bothered, as practically the whole team is new - Pinto and Cannobio are the only players who remain.

I'm also impressed that our youth team players are finally coming to the fore now, especially Roberto Lago and Dani Abalo.

Sociedad indeed seem to be in trouble. The fans didn't like what they saw in the 1-0 home defeat against Eibar. They also got knocked out of the Copa del Rey.

I would be nice to see Sporting back but not sure that they have quite enough there Jaime. So far, Malaga look awesome, they're hitting in the goals for fun. Numancia too, I think theres a fairly good chance the top two could stay like that, but way to early to make season long forecasts yet. Gutted to see Cadiz lose at home in the "friendly" against Cordoba, has put us in a position back from the leaders already.

It's too early in the season to predict anything. You always get teams that break away from the peloton but then start to drop points as the season goes on.

@NCFC Yeah, I don't know whether Sporting can make it or not but they are such an historic club it would be nice to have them back in Primera. It seems in past years they have been out of contention for promotion by October already. By like Samba de Baiano says, it's really hard to say at this point. So much can change in segunda and the battle for promotion often goes right down to the wire with 5 or 6 teams having possibilities.

    @Samba

How are Agus and Adrian doing at Celta? Anything of note?

Agus is currently playing at left-back (?) - instead of Zanev/Lago - and isn't playing particularly well. Adrian on the other hand isn't getting games as Stoichkov prefers Quincy as our left winger.

    Elche 2 - Celta 0

Another poor game by us. Again we dominated the match playing some nice football without getting that many shots on target. Conceded the two goals from calamitous errors by Pinto (GK) - who insisted on hoofing the ball up Okkas (whose 5 ft something) .

BTW Pierre. Noel Gifton-Willaims played quite well, holding the ball allowing the wingers to get behind our defence. Spent the rest of the game playing offside.

Elche aren't a bad side this season, so isn't a disaster, but Celta still struggling to really get going similarly to Cadiz. We lost to our bogey side Castellon making it 4 losses out of 4 in the matches against them since relegation in the summer of 2006. Do you feel at all confident of a Celta challenge for promotion mate? The fans seem to have really taken the summer departures and poor start to heart - only 5,000 odd seem to be turning up for your games - one of the worst in the league.

The headline makers in the segunda at the moment are Malaga I guess. Six out of six wins has put them on top with a clear advantage even at this early stage. I would have put them as promotion contenders at the start of the season, but nowhere near as good as they have done. Numancia were defeated by Sporting also yesterday - those are the best of the rest pretty much atm, along with Castellon.

Definitely. And I feel that Cadiz often have a similar problem. We dominate games with chances and shots on target within double figures but end up losing the game to a long ball goal. Castellon are typical segunda battlers - hence we always do $h!t against them! It is possible to have a successful season with good football though, Valladolid are evidence of that last season....but all to often it goes the other way.

Malaga have won seven out of seven (21) and are followed by Manolo Preciado's Sporting on 17. There is now a big pack of 8 teams fighting for that third place.

BTW we won 3-1 against Xerez with our Atletico loanees scoring (Mario Suarez, Diego Costa). Real Scoiedad are also winning and are on 13 points.

We really need the three points at the Carranza against Eibar today - anything less than a win and an early season crisis is beginning to dawn.

Málaga win again 7 straight wins. Las Palmas came for a draw that was clear after 20 mins when they had already started wasting time. but 12 seconds into the 2nd half the first space in behind and Malaga were ahead. Got another won late on having spawned 3 good chances during the 2nd half. They need to work out how to beat teams who will continue coming for a point if they maintain their current form.

Here's his explanation of it...very strange.

"At a professional and personal level it is very difficult when your family isn't here. My parents aren't here and my wife and children are in Barcelona," Stoichkov told a news conference.

"I was only waiting for a good game after which to take this decision."

Club president Carlos Mourino said Stoichkov had informed them after Saturday's 3-1 home win over Xerez.

"It's a sad day for me because I have to say goodbye to an excellent person and a great friend. Stoichkov told us he wanted to leave for personal reasons and gave us some time to seek a replacement."

I'm not buying it. The majority of the fans are pissed of with the way the new board have behaved themselves; firing long term employees such as Moncho & Felix Carnero, marginalising some of our best players -Lequi in particular - and the poor signings that have been made to replace those who have left.
