He should leave us - because if he gets a starting place atany decent Prem team (or even abroad - shock horror!) He should get into the England 1st XI (provided they want to carry on with 4-4-2).

His contract is running down anyway.

Jol has told him today to sign and has made it public.

Possible , the BBC did not have Kaboul in the Spurs squad to face Manchester United and Sky Sports has "Younes Kaboul, Ledley King and Michael Dawson are still injured, so Ricardo Rocha and Anthony Gardner should pair up in the centre of defence." .. both could be wrong though.

Tottenham won't sell him to Arsenal. They are worried that if he doesn't sign...he'll end up there on a free.

I think we should go back with £10m again. He won't go to Villa or Portsmouth as he has said he won't leave the area unless it's for a top 4 club.

    1-Berbatov.
    2-Defoe.
    3-Bent.
    4-Keane.

He's not top 4 starting material. He'd be on the bench there too (except for their injury crisis).

I honestly don't see what people see in Defoe - he's decent but that's it. Good for any team outside the top 4 but he's never going to take you that extra distance, which is what top 4 temas need. That said, Defoe does has his moments, but he's simply not good or consistently special enough. He's too greedy as well IMO.

Yes he is top 4 material. He needs to played. He doesn't get that at Tottenham. Start him every week and you'll get 15-20 goals every season.

I disagree strongly, He's one of the least greedy pacy strikers I've seen, his runs into space, his movement and vision are first class and he is a very clever striker plus his finishing is very very good, he's not consistant because he's in and out the team too much, if he was starting every game and his confidence was up he would be a fantastic asset to have

One of the biggest myths going is that Defoe is our best finisher, he's just a lot more direct, and shoot-on-sight than the ethors, especially Berbatov & Keane.

Keane's had a better shots-to-goal ratio than him for 2 years running.

I agree with DD, he is just too greedy and selfish. I think he has the makings of a good player, he is fast, turns quickly and has an eye for goal, but the problem is that whenever he gets the ball within 35 yards of goal all he seems to think about is shooting. If he has a chance of shooting or setting up someone in a better position he invariably shoot. Against Chelsea last year was a great example of this. He hit the crossbar, but could easily have squared the ball across goal which would have been more likely to result in a goal.

Berbatov creates something out of nothing, and then misses it. Defoe misses simple one on ones.
I'm less harsher in the case of the former.

Berbatov's strikes are often from a longer distances and tougher angles compared to Defoe's as well - its only natural that those are less likely to go in.

And when Defoe shoots from a distance its because he's a bit trigger happy - he can't wait to get in a better position, his brain shortwires and makes the wrong decision by unnecessarily shooting the ball from a distance (also a part of what makes him greedy). Whereas the better decision was to look for a teammate or get in a better position.

To be fair to him - the way Mido played in that 2nd half, I wasn't suprised that he shot, I would've done the same.

Bit harsh on Defoe DD, he certainly creates a lot of openings for himself. He certainly is a brilliant dribbler - his natural ability is no what's in doubt. It's the decision making.

    Defoe just isn't good enough.

I know it seems harsh, but no less true.

I also said Defoe has his moments where he's on fire and does everything right, and shows a bit of skill etc..
Its just that I'm showing why he's benched at Spurs and not a starting player for any of the top 4 - which was why people started about him again. He would make the benches though - but only Arsenal's at the moment IMO.
At Chelsea he'd be the last option, same at Man U and at this season's Liverpool.

He is good enough to start for England though - and should start more often. I can't see why he's often overlooked there (yeah I know, rooney) . If McClaren had any sense he'd have experimented starting Defoe and Crouch a couple of times instead of tagging along Smith for the ride.
