So Anelka has gone to Chelsea for 15 m and Savage to Derby . they also got Villa.

Wigan have signed Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Deportivo Olimpia.
The 23-year-old, who made six Premier League appearances for Birmingham while on loan earlier this season, has received international clearance and goes straight into the squad to face Derby on Saturday.
Steve Bruce signed Palacios when he was Blues manager and he told his club's official website, www.wiganlatics.co.uk: "I know Wilson well and I have seen what he can do.
"He has strength and vision; he can pass a ball with either foot and he has had some time to adjust to the rigour of the Premier League and knows what our game is all about.
Palacios added: "I am really happy to sign for Wigan. I like Steve as a manager and I think it is an ambitious club that is going places.
"I can't wait to get started now. When the loan finished at Birmingham, Wigan were the first to come in and make me an offer - and now I want to focus everything on doing my best here."

Bolton have signed Matt Taylor from Portsmouth on a three-and-a-half year deal.
The 26-year-old has been out of favour on the south coast so far
this season and had been expected to leave Fratton Park at some point
    this month.
Wanderers have not disclosed the fee they have paid for the
transfer, which follows the arrivals of Tamir Cohen and Gretar
    Steinsson.
Bolton boss Gary Megson told the club's website: "Matt is a
quality player who is very versatile on the left-hand side. He is a
proven Premier League performer who will bring additional quality to
    our squad.
"He has attracted interest from a number of clubs and I am delighted that we have managed to bring him to the Reebok Stadium."

    Aston Villa
central defender Martin Laursen has ended doubts over his future and
agreed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with the midlands club.
The Denmark international will formally put pen to paper on a
deal which will keep him at Villa Park until the end of the 2009-10
    season.
Thirty-year-old Laursen was out of contract in the summer but has consistently stated that he was happy to remain at Villa.
He moved from AC Milan for £3million in 2004 and his first three years at Villa were dogged by knee problems.
But during the current campaign Laursen has been an ever-present and also weighed in with six Premier League goals.
Villa manager Martin O'Neill said: "Everyone at Aston Villa is
absolutely delighted that Martin is staying on for another two and a
    half years.
"He has become a firm favourite with the fans and I would think they are as pleased as we are that he is staying.
"Martin has been playing some wonderful football and he deserves everything he gets.
"He has shown great determination and the way he has overcome a serious injury is a lesson to everyone.
"He has removed the doubts over his fitness by playing regularly
this season. I am delighted, and so is everyone at the club, that he is
    staying."

Well being black or/and african helps at pompey, but he was actually dropped for a white croatian who is a lot better of a player than him, but i rate Taylor.

taylor's alright, but always struck me as a bit of a motd player. scored a few great goals and that, but otherwise pretty mediocre. kranjcar is certainly much better for pompey from what i've seen. bolton's probably a good move for taylor.

Taylor is too attack minded for fullback but can't play left mid.

People in this country need to realise that a right footed player cutting in from the left is far more threatening than the old school left footed player who always goes on the outside - percentage wise less than 10% of Prem goals are scored from crosses.

Taylor is a true wingback IMO.

Funnily enough though, since someone mentioned he isn't black, there aren't many decent white wing-backs as its arguably the most demanding position from a physical point of view, requiring an abundance of pace and stamina.

Ideally a two footed player works best. Which is why players like figo ronaldo are such great players in the 'winger' position, as you can go either way, cross either side. Giggs was not such a bad left footed left side winger now.

I don't think Krancjar is a winger, where as young is.

I always liked Figo best at LM.

Young is great 'cos his left foot is decent and has amazing pace too.

Overmars was another pacey right footer with a very decent left as is Ribery.

Downing is good with both feet ok

McClaren used to try the right footed winger on the left/left footed winger on the right for us. I always liked the idea but the majority of the fans and local radio pundits got on his back instantly and he gave into the pressure. It was Greening on the left and Marinelli on the right that he was trying. Was actually pretty good to watch.

Why do you think this is? Is it just that theres a dearth of centre forwards around who excel at heading the ball, and perhaps a dearth of traditional wingers too, and so teams have adapted; or do you think theres some other reason, that its something to do with how defences set up these days for instance?

For me, I still like a more traditional winger on each side because of the balance that gives. As Coops' post mentions, if you think a right footer should play on the left, should a left footer then play on the right? Or does that leave too little width? Obviously, the ideal thing is for a player to be able to go both ways, and its very limiting if a player cant do that. Keegan at Newcastle always went with two wingers, but someone like Ginola could go both ways with ease. At the moment we have N'Zogbia who can and does cut inside often. Coincidentally, Milner has played on the left this season a lot, and the very problem with playing him there is that he doesnt cut inside but sticks rigidly to the touchline. And when we played him on the left and N'Zogbia on the right, we just became too cluttered, our attack failed because players werent able to go past people.

Fulham bought FC Copenhagen's Hangeland. Not sure what to say, I was sure he'd go to a club like Newcastle to the summer. But then again he's played under Hodgson before when he was a coach in Norway, and I'm sure he'll improve him even more.

Manchester City striker Georgios Samaras is poised to seal a move to Birmingham, BBC Sport understands.

The two clubs have agreed a fee for the Greek forward and he is now hammering out personal terms with Birmingham.

The Greece international joined Manchester City for £6m from Dutch side Heerenven in January 2006.

Samaras scored six goals for City last season, but has barely featured following the arrival of Sven-Goran Eriksson as manager last summer.

More money = more professionalism/better organisation - I know there's some great crosses but if you have a big powerful CB he should be able to stop the man getting in front of him at the near post (even if CB and CF are of equal strength I think its easier to block someone off and head clear than it is to muscle your way past a CB and get a good header in and if the other CB concentrates you're fine)

Goals don't come from great passing moves or great crosses very often.

The 2 main sources of goals are, I believe, disposessing the oppo in their own half and using 2 or 3 passes before scoring on the counter and set pieces.

Samaras isn't anything special, but good for Birmingham definately.

I'm a big fan of Mcfadden to be honest, I think he could do a job for most sides in the league, maybe not good enough for the big 4 but anywhere else he could be a very good player for.
