Re: Done deals
Big deals still expected to be completed:
Benjani to Man City (£8m)
Defoe to Portsmouth (£9m)
Alves to Middlesbrough (£12m)
I wonder if there will be any surprise signings over the next hour.

I really hope we can get Benjani, he will be a great signing. i think he would link up really well with Elano and Petrov.

Re: Done deals
newcastle inaction...perplexing?
surely a significant reason for getting rid of sam when they did was to allow the new boss to use the transfer window. are they just writing off this season completely?
benjani would be good for city. if they'd him ahead of vassell the last few weeks i'm sure they'd be a few points better off.

Heerenveen and Middlesbrough signed, AZ is fighting it : they claim to have the rights to the player (and are threatening to appeal to FIFA)

Liverpool have announced the sale of defender Lee Peltier to Yeovil Town.
The 20-year-old Academy graduate, who has four Liverpool appearances to his name, has been on loan at the League One outfit since the start of the season.
Meanwhile, contrary to reports elsewhere, the deal to complete Javier Mascherano's permanent move to Liverpool has yet to be finalised.

Quote from that site :
However, he must now await international clearance from the Dutch FA before making his debut for Boro.
The Dutch FA still has to make a ruling on the AZ claim, they've already said the burden of proof is on Alves.
Will probably take 4 weeks to conclude and at the moment it looks like it will go AZ's way....

I think we are writing this season off, in that we are perhaps too far behind already to realistically push for Europe - we are 13 points off 7th place, in what seems like a reasonably strong league, with you, City and Everton all doing well. That's fair enough. The main thing is simply ensuring that we don't go down, though I also think it's important to finish the season as well as possible in order to instill belief for next season, and perhaps to make us as attractive as we can be to potential summer signings.
In this respect, I would have liked someone in during this window. It was always going to be difficult to get people in, because Keegan has only had two weeks in which to search, we have had a few games in that time, and we have players away in the African Nations. It sounds like we have been close to several targets. We wanted Woodgate; we bid for Barnes; there's a Czech guy, Lubos Kalouda, who we apparently went after but couldn't sort a deal in time for the deadline; some Brazilian defender at Levante was supposedly on his way only for that to faulter; Pandev seemed a possibility. Obviously it's fruitless to go after players no better than what we have, and I'm sure we will spend and change things about in the summer, but to invigorate our season I would have liked someone in.

It might be a long hour or so for you. If he does sign, do you think it will be too late to stake a claim in the squad for Saturday?
