Our commentators said this was going to be the last games before he moved so i think its a done deal.

The deal has not yet been finalised but imminent.

Sneijder will be out for 6(!) months.

I wish we had kept Parejo.

(Thought it'd be Robben who breaks down during the pre-season.)

Seems as if Sneijder is looking at 6 months out. Feel for the lad, I was never really a huge fan of his, but last season he was fantastic. Big blow for Madrid.

On the + side, VDV move now definitely makes sense and it should allow more playing time for DLR too.

    @elbecko

Would have been useful to still have Granero as well.

    @Calidad

I was really interested to see how Sneijder would do this season. He was great in the close of last season, had a really good Euro, and now this. It's too bad for him, hopefully he's able to recover fully. You never know with knee injuries like that.

This could be a blessing in disguise though. Now instead of having to try and fit Sneijder into the midfield and play with only one winger, probably Schuster could go for both Robben and Robinho on the wings and some combination of Gago, De la Red, and Diarra in the center with Raul and RVN up front.

Diarra was impossing but as usual he puts alot of pressure on Guti which makes him worse. every time he gets the ball he looks up and looks for Guti because he is such a poor passer. he drags down everybody else by making those damn simple makelele passes.
Sad about Snejider but i gues this means we will get VDV which makes sense now allthough it would have been more sense to keep Granero or Parejo.
I thought Javi Garcia did quite well as a defender today and i think that if he was given a chance in midfield he would win Diarras place quickly.

Real signs vdV, I guess it's official now.

    Dear fans,

Last night everything came together, and I am now moving to Real Madrid.

As everybody might know I have always wanted to move to Spain, because I have a strong bond with that country. Now I'm going to play for Real Madrid… it's a dream comes true!
Looking back at the last couple of years, I'm extremely happy that I've had the chance to experience playing for HSV. No club, and no set of fans will treat you with more hospitality than they do! Thanks very much for that - Sylvie and I will never forget you!

Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon has been very public with regard to his views over the incorrectness of Cristiano Ronaldo being held against his will by Manchester United – now his principles are going to be given a stiff test after Robinho has asked both his president and manager Bernd Schuster to let him go to Chelsea. Robinho made the request during a meeting in London today:

"I want to go to Chelsea just as Cristiano wants to go to Madrid – it’s the same thing.”

Real Madrid had hoped to keep the skilful attacker in Spain with an increased contract offer although the deal falls short of what he can earn at Stamford Bridge, however, what seemed to be the straw that broke the camels back was Calderon’s offer to use Robinho as a make-weight in the Ronaldo deal - this public gaff by Calderon looks to have made the Robinho transfer to Chelsea possible.

I can’t imagine any Manchester United fan or Alex Ferguson wishing to see one of their closest rivals for silverware strengthened by the likes of a player of Robinho´s calibre – but I bet one or two might even smile a little at this latest development.

Over to you Ramon! Let’s see if you really do believe that it’s wrong to hold back a player that wants to move! You could even celebrate the fact that your club is involved in such an important transfer – just like you urged Ferguson to do!

Probably still is a silly investment considering all of the attacking midfielders we have but hopefully this means that we will definitely be selling Baptista. ok

    ---------------------------Casillas/Dudek/Felipe or Adan

    S.Ramos/Torres---Cannavaro/J.Garcia---Pepe/Metzelder---Heinze/Marcelo

    ---------------------------------------Gago/Diarra

    --------------v.d. Vaart/De la Red----------------Guti/Sneijder

    ----------------------------------v. Nistelrooy/Saviola/Baptista

Salgado will probably (unfortunately) not be going anywhere but hopefully he won't feature much. Now that VDV is here I'm hoping it means we will still make one last push for David Villa and then sell the jokers Baptista and Saviola will hopefully still be sold. There is also a rumour that Garay may join us after the Olympic games.

Hasn’t Garay signed and will meet up with his new team-mates after the Olympics ? , Schuster did say yesterday there is no problem at the CB position when asked about Javier Garcias performance. Valencia seem to be reluctant to sell and Calderon focusing on other players (well just 1) that will cost a fortune, could mean Villa not going to Real ..

I think signing VDV means we are probably not signing Cristiano...unless we would only pay between 75-85m. euros. Certainly we aren't going to pay 100euro now.

Garay has been signed but he was loaned back to Racing for a year. There is a clause that we can still change this and he would play for us this year but we would have to pay Racing an additional 1m. euro

Valencia seem reluctant but their financial situation means they have to sell some players. Villa and Silva are their most rentable assets. I don't think Villa wants to leave Spain so he would only go to us or Farza but the cules are more interested in Silva.

Rafael van der Vaart to Real Madrid

The club announced on Monday that skipper Rafael van der Vaart has joined the Spanish giants Real Madrid. The 25 year old Dutch international playmaker, HSV and Madrid reached agreement on a transfer deal on Monday August 4th 2008. Media speculation had been rife recently about a possible move. Hardly surprisingly, van der Vaart played no part in the recent Emirates Cup win in London.

While at HSV (2005-2008), van der Vaart played 74 Bundesliga games, scoring 29 goals in the process: "HSV and Rafael had three very successful years during which new chapters in our history were written. We wish him every success at his new club", said the HSV boss Bernd Hoffmann on Monday.

Sport director Didi Beiersdorfer: "During his time at the club, Rafael developed into a top European player and was instrumental in the recent development of HSV. We wish him all the best for the future."

    ---------------------------Casillas/Dudek/Felipe or Adan

    S.Ramos/Torres---Cannavaro/J.Garcia---Pepe/Metzelder---Heinze/Marcelo

    ---------------------------------------Gago/Diarra

    --------------v.d. Vaart/De la Red----------------Guti/Sneijder

    -------------------------Raul/Higuain------------------------------Robben/Robinho

I dont think Shuster intends to use Javi Garcia in defence. i think he is only playing because there is no other options. also i thought the Garay thing was settled and that he will return to madrid after the olympics.

Ok so we got VDV which i gues isnt too bad. he will defo improve the team and we finally have someone who we can rely on for creative output. allthough i think we will still defo have some problems if we keep using Diarra because he works against the team i feel offensively. Javi Garcia/Gago/DLR could all do the role better.
