Exactly. I wasn't the biggest RVN fan when he came but now there is no way i would drop him from the team, especially keeping Raul in over him. David Villa and Van Nistelrooy would be a great partnership but it won't happen, If(and its a huge if) we get Villa i know for a fact Schuster will play Raul - RVN - Villa as a front three, he doesn't have the balls to drop Raul or RVN.

    ---------------------------Casillas/Dudek/Felipe or Adan

    S.Ramos/Torres---Cannavaro/J.Garcia---Pepe/Metzelder---Heinze/Marcelo

    ---------------------------------------Gago/Diarra

    --------------v.d. Vaart/De la Red----------------Guti/Sneijder

    -------------------------Raul/Higuain------------------------------Robben/Robinho

    ----------------------------------v. Nistelrooy/Saviola/Baptista

Salgado will probably (unfortunately) not be going anywhere but hopefully he won't feature much. Now that VDV is here I'm hoping it means we will still make one last push for David Villa and then sell the jokers Baptista and Saviola will hopefully still be sold. There is also a rumour that Garay may join us after the Olympic games.
I dont think Shuster intends to use Javi Garcia in defence. i think he is only playing because there is no other options. also i thought the Garay thing was settled and that he will return to madrid after the olympics.

Ok so we got VDV which i gues isnt too bad. he will defo improve the team and we finally have someone who we can rely on for creative output. allthough i think we will still defo have some problems if we keep using Diarra because he works against the team i feel offensively. Javi Garcia/Gago/DLR could all do the role better.

I don't think it is official that Garay is going to be with us or not. I think Schuster wants him but we'll have to see what Pedja does.

I'd be happy enough to never use Diarra and give the change to Javi Garcia but I think after Diarra played three good games last year when we clinched the title, Schuster has fallen back in love with him.

Cristiano may start ahead of Robben, but I think the latter suits La liga more. AND I'd never drop Robinho! He's peerless IMO.

Would have been useful to still have Granero as well.

    @Calidad

I was really interested to see how Sneijder would do this season. He was great in the close of last season, had a really good Euro, and now this. It's too bad for him, hopefully he's able to recover fully. You never know with knee injuries like that.

This could be a blessing in disguise though. Now instead of having to try and fit Sneijder into the midfield and play with only one winger, probably Schuster could go for both Robben and Robinho on the wings and some combination of Gago, De la Red, and Diarra in the center with Raul and RVN up front.

Yes, I agree, though he had already been loaned out before this turn of event.

Too many Dutches for my liking but, Schuster is officially a socio of Barca, so it was inevitable. Wink

I guess there will be a few experiment for the first few months then kind of $h!t hits the fan after three months when the midget returns. The friendlies so far doesn't give us (and probably Schuster) much insight into how the line-up will be, as there're so many absences with Euro 2008 and Olympics. Though Jaime's line-up looks like Schuster would choose except for Diarra which I think Schuster will prefer. I would go for Marcelo over Heinze, Robinho over Robben (or together), would like to see Higuain more over RvN/Raul, and someone challenges Guti. I think those three will not last the distance even in this season, and they need to pass the battons (a la la seleccion), IMO. I am still hoping Baptista to recover his form (though he's been shocking so far and likely to be sold). Possibility of Garay not loaned out is not that low, IMO. Javi Garcia did OK, but he'd be better placed as DM or ship Metzelder off.

I hope the signing of VdV mean the end of the CRY saga, though I still won't put anything passed the megalomaniacs of Calderon, Mijatovic and C.Ronaldo. My mind will not rest until 1 September.

If 3 months is correct the midget will return sometime in November.

    02-Nov-08 (Sun) Liga Almería (A)
04-Nov-08 (Tue) CL Group Stage 4
    09-Nov-08 (Sun) Liga Málaga (H)
    12-Nov-08 (Wed) Copa 1/16 2
    16-Nov-08 (Sun) Liga Valladolid (A)

Ease him in Copa match perhaps? I also wonder if Schuster will not register him for CL group stage...

VDV is a fantastic signing for Madrid, IMHO a long with Ronaldinho for Milan the best signing in Europe for a big club (although a much safer bet).

I really would love to hear an explanation why there were absolutely ZERO rumours about him coming to us Sad
As a versatile attacking midfielder, he would be 100x better, and a bit cheaper, than Hleb. Not to mention he practically played as a striker for HSV last season, that's how many goals he scores. I would even not want Arshavin if we at least got VDV.

But now the worst case scenario has happened and he's a Madrid player. I'll never be able to enjoy watching him play again Sad

I heavily doubt that because he has said before that he was a barca fan. as did Snejider i think but of course when they join its suddenly their dream move. Whistle
if it was up to me Barca could have had VDV. no point in overloading the midfield and not even giving the youth players a chance. allthough if it means not getting Ronaldo then he has saved us from disastor.

Nah I don't buy that tbh. I think he implied earlier in the summer that he would move to any big club in Europe - one of the English Big 4, Juve or the Milans, and Barça or Madrid. Otherwise he would stay at HSV for one more season.

If we had moved in earlier, we could have got him. He does have a bad injury record, but for something like 10-12 million euros and someone of his talent, I'd take that risk every time, given the chance.

I definitely agree. Did he have any clause in his contract allowed to leave him for this kind of money, or maybe his contract was running out soon?

His contract expires in 2010, but he had a clause in it saying he would be available for exactly 1.5m euros in 2009.

Marca is citing the final number to be 13m.

Yeah but you just know we would have signed him for 10m + 2m in add-ons or something like that. Cheaper up front and cheaper overall too Ale

But when he leaves we'll sell him for a profit. Biggrin

Real has done it again :

Calderón wekte verbazing met zijn opsomming van de kwaliteiten van Van der Vaart. 'Volgens onze technische staf is hij een verdedigende middenvelder die scoort en ons veel gaat brengen dit seizoen.' Van der Vaart zelf zegt dat hij als aanvallende middenvelder of tweede spits is gehaald.

translation : Calderon claimed VDV to be a scoring DM Shocked Doh

VDV says they told him they thought of him as a AM or SS....

    Yay ! Erm

I didn't believe you at first but here is the transcript from Calderon's presentation:

"...un jugador de extraordinaria calidad, un medio defensivo que marca goles, gran visión de juego y mucho talento."

    But then VDV clarifies:

“Puedo jugar tanto de mediapunta como por la derecha o izquierda”.

    lol!
