We didnt win anything for 26 years.
Look at our attendance
http://www.red11.org/mufc/stats/attendances.htm
We build the money, around the success brought by SAF and the gates we had.
Bollocks look at Arsenal's European record at the start of the EPL..its pathetic. Same goes for Chelsea obviously.
And if there is one team that has money all around it, it has to be utd.

Re: Kaka open to City move !
Hmm. Yes and no. Success at the right time has been key - Utd's recent success perfectly co-incided with the big infllux of money when the Premier league started, and subsequently the CL developed. Which was a lovely feedback mechanism - the success generated money, to keep perpetuating the success. But had they been winning titles in the 80s and slumped a bit in the 90s, maybe they wouldn't have become such a force (more like, say, Everton), as other teams would've profited more at the most profitable times.DS wrote:These 'super-rich' clubs have built that wealth based on success.Kimbo wrote:Tweedle wrote:DS wrote:Black day for football.

Oh please, so Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, Juve and Chelsea have been spending club generated money all these years? Have they bollocks.
Well lets face it certain English G14 clubs have been in the business of squeezing CL money their way, creating an uneven playing field.

Re: Kaka open to City move !
They've been consistent enough to get into the CL each year once it expanded - which is success enough, to stay in the money. But they're also not as rich as Utd is - despite having equal (probably more) success historically. This is partly due to timing - winning the league and European Cup in the 70s/80s did not make as much money as it does now.DS wrote:Maybe, but Liverpool have remained a big club, despite having little success for 18 years.debaser wrote:Hmm. Will this result in a top 5? The Manchester derby could become the biggest derby in the world!
Still..im gonna say it anyway...Kaka is not that good.
SHould the EPL get a 5th CL place btw?

IMO Kaka is a BIG game player and not a small game player. I don't think he'll trounce the smaller fry the way that some players in the EPL do and I don't think he's going to make a huge difference to Man City's success at first.
Having said that, they look as though they'll make a couple more biggish signings this transfer window and the composite of their signings should aid their predicament.
As to Kaka's strength in the long term. I don't think he's the type that would thrive as a big player in a small team. IMO Kaka's strength's come to fruition within a big team, shining as the star amongst other top class players

The deal has not been completed and until it is im trying not to get carried away and power wank. I have heard on a city forum from someone who works with city that Kaka has agreed to sign and the deal will be done hopefully by monday. He may still play for Milan though tomorrow to say goodbye.
I will believe it all when it is officially announced. Please god let it happen.

Are you not worried though goater?
ANY big player that comes in after this will probably want at least half of the wages that Kaka will be on?
It may well cost a billion pounds + to assemble the squad, if wages are also factored in! That's insane!

Still peanuts relative to how much cash those arabs have.

They have three trillion don't they?
To put this transfer into context, the money involved is the equivilent of giving everyone in Manchester £275.

Thats fine and dandy.
But when the arabs get tired of Man City and look for a new shiny toy. City don't have infrastructure (no club for that matter), to pay ridiculous wages such as £500K a week.
And hypothetically if they sign more big name players, it could all end up terribly for City.

Besides, Hughes can't handle these big names on this sort of money.
Bring back Sven
£40mil in for Chiellini/Nesta or £20mil for Senna is what I'd recommend.

Both very sound investments. Chiellini would be ideally suited to the EPL.
I'd buy Buffon for £30m, Chillieni for £30m and Michael Essien for £30m
