Still this match is tailor made for a great performance from us. I'm expecting alonso and riera to have great games with a return to form for Mascha. We'll have to rape them in midfield to get a result

I don't think he is going to start Superman. Yossi will probably have to take over that role.

We'll most likely play:
--------------------Casillas
S. Ramos---Cannavaro---Pepe---Heinze
Robben------Lass------Gago------Marcelo
--------------Higuain----Raul
Only variation is the Sneijder or Guti could come in for Marcelo in which case we'll look a bit more like:
--------------------Casillas
S. Ramos---Cannavaro---Pepe---Heinze
----------------Lass------Gago
----------------Sneijder/Guti
----Higuain---------Raul----------Robben

Not the best news coming out about the club right before this game. I'd be amazed if Rafa told the club he's leaving right before this crucial game, it doesn't really make any sense...
I expect a proffessional performance from Liverpool, I hope both Alonso and Gerrard start but have a feeling only one of them will...

We don't always have the best preperation for important CL games though

Ryan Babel says he has sent text messages to some of his fellow Dutch players in Real Madrid.
The two clubs clash on Wednesday in Madrid in a Champions League match, and Babel has been communicating via his mobile phone with two of Real Madrid six Dutch players, Wesley Sneijder and Royston Drenthe.
”We agree that it's going to be exciting. They were interested to know whether Steven Gerrard would play. Without him, they feel Liverpool is weaker. Unfortunately for them, Steven is playing,” says Ryan Babel, who is looking forward to play against his teammates from the national team.
”It's gonna be a beautiful Dutch game,” says Ryan Babel.

This for me sums up the arrogance of none English teams in the CL:
Real Madrid president taunts Liverpool
Boluda has taunted Liverpool ahead of the Champions League game at the Bernabeu by claiming his team will cruise to victory and win 5-1 over the two legs.
Boluda added: "We will win 3-0 in the Bernabeu which will be a great party. Then we will win 2-1 in Liverpool.'
"We will go on to win the Champions League. We will win the league, too. I have been saying this for weeks and I'll say it again now."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
You'd never get that said by a manager from an English side, I think this is a reason why teams from Spain and Italy haven't done so well in recent years.

Ahh ok, so if a loose cannon administrative official (of which there are more in Spain for sure) makes some stupid statement, or a player is asked for his thoughts on an upcoming game and they are subsequently mistranslated and skewed by the English press before being reported to you, it explains why Spanish/Italian teams don't do as well in the CL.
Silly me thinking it's about English teams' structural stability, higher spending power, etc.

Do we have to go over this again? We know Barça and Madrid are different to the rest, but compare a midtable English club to a midtable Spanish club and you'll get the general point I'm trying to make.
@Kimbo: for every Freddy Shepherd, there's 2 equivalent Spanish club presidents.

Will Rafa be actively coaching Liverpool, or will he be scouting the squad he'll take over in August?
