He's my second favourite Dutch player after VDV, so yes he's our best DM in my opinion Wink

Trouble is that Von Bommel and De Jong have played so well in Oranje that it's not done to replace one of them.

De Zeeuw & Schaars were the DM block that made AZ champion, I'd love to see them play for Oranje : I'm certain they would perform at least equal to Von Bommel and De Jong.

    @ Allez

    A)http://www.arsenalinsider.com/?p=5459
There are a few other unoffical Arsenal fan sites that have reported this but nothing official like Sky Sports or Arsenal.Com

B)Arsenal fans have been hit with more bad news as manager Arsene Wenger revealed to the clubs official website that Eduardo will also miss the start of the new season.

The Brazilian-born Croatian international returned to first team action towards the end of last season following a horror leg break against Birmingham City in February 2008. However, the striker underwent further surgery on the injury in May 2009.

“We’ll have Eduardo back in two months,” Wenger said. “You do not want to lose important players before the season starts.”

Wenger also explained how Samir Nasri sustained his injury.

“Accidentally he nicked the ball away from somebody who was just having a shot on goal,” said the Frenchman. “Unfortunately he got kicked and got a broken fibula. Not a complicated one but it will take six weeks to heal.”

Russian midfielder Andrey Arshavin has claimed that the upcoming season with Arsenal should see him fully demonstrate his potential to the Emirates faithful. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder made an amazing start to life in England making twelve league appearances, scoring six goals (including four against Liverpool at Anfield) as well as making seven assists. Nevertheless, despite his obvious ability, the Russian insists that it is this season that he plans to stamp his authority on a first team place under Arsene Wenger.

"Next season will be like my first real season,” Arshavin told Sky Sports magazine.

"This has been like the preamble, a demo version before the start of the real game. Everything will start for real next season.

"We'll have to see how that unfolds. My main concern will be making sure I keep my place in the team.

"I want to enjoy a good pre-season with the team. I have already adapted. I am very happy. The fans love me, which is important for me.

"We all believe that there will be trophies, and that the new season will be full of joy for the players and the fans.

"But we have to finish speaking about how young we are. We need to play like we are a big and strong team."

    cheers

    Pretty much <Ale>

Exactly, I remember Wenger using Gilberto as a full on DM quite a lot. But you'd need a leading striker to do that and Eduardo aside I'd say all of your forwards are better coming deep than they are leading the line. Maybe Walcott, but I don't think anyone here honestly thinks he'll be leading the Arsenal attack.

Do you think not qualifying for the CL once would be enough? Not really sure about that to be honest. Not qualifying repeatedly however could cause enough pressure.

It won't be. Three years consecutively will begin to raise doubts and not performing in Europa League too, and losing the dressing room.

the exception that proves the rule. if you think how successful it was, it makes you wonder, why he'll not go for it now.

    Imo Wenger mainly is (4-4-1-1)
    X---X----X----X
    ---X----X-----
    X---------------X
    -------X---------
    ---------X-------

    or something very close.

4-1-4-1 makes it much easier for the DM. He just has to stay put. Even if you play Song or Denislon there it would make sense. Limit what they have to do, so they can focus on what's key.

There's 1 problem Cesc wants to play deep.

    No.

Yes, because the board should be aware of their own culpability for the situation.

Lrdd - you do realise that's the worst case scenario.

Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc has warned want-away striker Marouane Chamakh that he will not be sold to a lesser club.

Chamakh has been linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Sunderland and Blackburn this summer with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger admitting that he was considering a bid for the Moroccan.

The 25-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave Les Girondins after five seasons at the Stade Chaban Delmas.

However Blanc believes that Chamakh should choose his options carefully and only leave Bordeaux if a bigger team come in for him.

"I can understand Marouane wanting to leave, even him wanting to go at any cost, but he must go to a club which merits him," he said.

"If this is not the case I might refuse his departure. If it does not work out he can stay at Bordeaux, it would not be a jail sentence to stay for another year after which he could have the promise of going elsewhere."

Meanwhile Lyon are reportedly monitoring the situation with club president Jean-Michel Aulas stating earlier this week that he would welcome Chamakh with 'open arms' if he decided to stay in France.

Les Gones coach Claude Puel also confessed that they were interested in the frontman as they gear up to try and win back the title from Blanc's men.

"Chamakh is one of the players who (we) are interested in and would have the qualities needed to reinforce the squad," he said.

Look like we're taking Pedro Botelho on loan this season, in order for him to get Spanish citizenship. Personally, I don't see the point given that you've already got Clichy, Gibbs and to a lesser extent Traore.

Cesc Arshavin rvp ok 3 great players. But the rest is a step down and after that it gets silly.

Im sorry but Alumunia is the worst top 4 keeper in a long time. the rest of the defence are all dodgy. You still have no real DM. and if RVP gets injured like he often does that leaves Eduardo and Bendther which is good but hardly prem winning stuff.

Well Sagna is arguably better than any RB you have. Clichy is a French International as well. Toure and Gallas might not be as good as the partnerships as the other top 3 but the standard is very high and i'm sure these two would thrive abroad.

Nasri is not a step down either nor is Rosicky. Almunia has improved leaps and bounds. He was our fourth best player last season behind RVP, Nasri and Arshavin. That's the last place in the team that needs strengthening.

The striker area in our team is overhyped. At Arsenal we create chances to win 5 games let alone one so anyone who plays upfront will always get goals. The midfield needs strengthening but we are only a combative CM away from being serious contenders.

Adebayor created a lot himself. And Nasri has a broken leg. Toure is really dodgy and has been off form for a few years. Gallas on his day is great but he makes a lot of mistakes these days and the pair of them don't like each other?
Clichy was awful last year he's talented but dodgy defensivly ditto Sagna. Alumunia may have improved but the free kick Ronaldo scored was just an example he's not good enough for a club wanting to win the prem. I compare to Caroll for us i rated him but since he's left thank fuck.

I thought if Arsenal signed a good keeper and defender and kept the players they could surprise everyone. But the oppisite has happenend. You'll be fighting to stay in that top 4 at best.

Adebayor was good for us but before Henry left I remember people using him as a scapegoat much like Bendtner was at times lastseason. I'm hopeful that Bendtner can step up like Ade did when henry left.

Nasri has a broken legs but is only out for 6 weeks. It's best the injury happens now than say in January.

Toure has only been dodgy since he came back from the ACON in 2008 but he put in many stellar performances last season. Gallas was amazing after having the captaincy stripped off him and it says something that when he got injured our season went to pot due to having to rely on Tweety.

Clichy was not up to scratch granted but a lot of our players wern't. Sagna suffered SSS and he is possibly one of the best defenders in the league in one on one situations. So after making one mistake during the season Almunia is rubbish? scratch You obviously didn't see how many times he saved us single handedly.

You need to stop reading the papers Lerd. If were really as bad as people made out would we have gone 21 games unbeaten in the league last season or reached the F.A Cup and CL semif-finals?

People love to push things to the limit Erm

Most Arsenal fans are very happy with Arsene and that is all that matters really.

Arsenal Striker Eduardo: I Am Not Injured

Dudu is not sure just why Arsene Wenger claims that he is out for two months...

Arsene Wenger recently told the club's official website that the Brazilian-born star would miss the next two months.

However, speaking to Croatian paper Jutarnji, the player himself expressed his surprise at those comments.

"I do not know anything about the statement made by my coach," Eduardo said.

"It can not be true. I am completely ready physically.

"I was told that I will play between 20 and 30 minutes on July 27 when we play against Szombatelya. Two days later against Hannover 96 I will play a half.

"I feel great, next week I will play for Arsenal, and I believe that everything will be OK."

Eduardo only made four appearances last season, as he struggled with various niggles after recovering from his horrific broken leg.
