i think its a very hard group, but the new bayern compactness makes me feel confident

villa and napoli try to play football, that should give us more space then in the bundesliga

from individual class city is as good as bayern (at least from starting 11 view), much will depend on EINGESPIELTHEIT, tactic and luck

to get out of the group as number 1 is vital, with our draw luck we get barca, real or united

I agree that the improved defence will help you tremendously in the CL. Another thing is that Bayern seem less reliant on Robbery this season. Müller is a more established and mature player than he was in the very successful first season under Van Gaal, and he and to a lesser degree Kroos (still not there yet) can compensate their absence, at least against most sides. Heynckes' rotation helps a lot, too, especially in the league where Bayern take full advantage of their superior squad, similar to the Hitzfeld days.

However, Bayern have not been properly challenged yet. They've yet to play against some of the best Bundesliga sides. Still huge favourites to win the league, but that was clear before the season had started.

The least I expect from Bayern in the CL is to make the second round. Experience will help you against City, but they really are very strong. If you manage to win the tough group, it should give your team a considerable confidence boost that could take you very far this season.

thats true, the robbery addiction is not as distinctive as in the last years, thats a big plus

the problem is our bench, when one of our front 4 get injured, there is not much quality left in our attack, only kroos, and the very unproven usami and petersen

also alaba was a pretty let down against kaiserslautern

compared to city, this looks like 2nd division material

Well, compared to City, only two other clubs in Europe can compete as far as strength in depth is concerned. They have one of the most expensive squads ever.

However, your first XI is one of the strongest in Europe also IMHO. And you have much more experience in the CL, that could be the decisive factor.

But yes, against City, you need all your key players to be fit.

Interesting analysis of Bayern under Heynckes, the differences to the Van Gaal era and the reasons why they are so dominant and strong so far this season:

Read this somewhere and sorry if I'm late, Bayern haven't concede any goals for 8 games, which is a little record, and the last time they did that they won the championship. It's not so much of a surprise since Bayern have invested a lot on the defense. With Neuer and co they now have a very efficient defense..
I think Bayern will be very difficult to beat this year. I watched a few games, 2 in fact the preliminaries of the C.L and the first or second game of Bundesliga, and I was not too impressed. Gomez was missing everything. Now, he's much better and score tons. Sucks that there is always a good player injured, it's important nowadays to have good automatism. When will Robben be back?

    toni kroos interview

    http://www.merkur-online.de/sport/fc-bayern/toni-kroos-wir-sind-alle-gluecklichmacher-1415071.html

    --------

have to say hes right about the medias and fans, xavi would have deserved 2 WPOTY awards

i think in the next 10 years kroos will be the most important midfielder for germany

Kroos is more of a Xavi than an Iniesta for me. He lacks the effortless dribbling skills at a high pace of the latter.

Still a long way to go for him though. I like his risky passing style, but he really has to improve the precision, needs to find the right balance between a backwards / sideways pass to secure possession and a risky through ball attempt. He often loses the ball too easily that way, resulting in dangerous situations for the defence.

agree, hes more a xavi than an iniesta, i also agree on his weak points

xavi and iniesta reached there world class status in 2008, xavi was 28, iniesta was 24

kroos is born in 1990, so he has plenty of him, and i am really happy with his progress

His first touch is top notch and most importantly, like Özil, he already knows where to pass to before he receives the ball. His touch is actually even better than Özil's, he almost never loses the ball when he receives it, but has to learn to do the simple things at the right time, something Özil does exceptionally well. Özil is actually more similar to Iniesta for me.

But forget the comparisons, I'd be very happy if both could form a similarly successful partnership for Germany, doing it in their very own style.
