Moratti is a deep sleeper. You remember Polyphemus from the Odyssey? Well in this case you don't even need to feed and provide drink for Moratti--the man has an uncanny knack for screwing up on the transfer market.

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
Roma: No Chivu-Inter talks
Wednesday 20 June, 2007
Rumours of a deal rocketed after David Pizarro’s transfer completion, but Roma have denied there are even negotiations for Cristian Chivu’s Inter switch.
The Romanian defender has been linked with the Nerazzurri for over a year and it was widely believed that the full ownership of Pizarro in an agreement struck last night would open the door for this exchange.
However, the Giallorossi have issued an official statement to silence this newspaper talk.
“Referring to what was written in the major newspapers regards to the possible transfer of Cristian Chivu, A.S. Roma S.p.A. inform that there are no negotiations for this player.
“The meetings with representatives of Inter were purely to resolve the ownership of David Marcelo Cortes Pizarro.
“Therefore the stories released in the media, including the financial terms contained therein, are to be considered untrue and without any foundation.”
This is unlikely to dissuade the Italian newspapers, however, who continue to suggest Chivu will join Inter over the summer.

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
By today's deadline of 19:00, Inter's managers resolved the co-ownerships of numerous players jointly owned by Inter and other clubs.
What always surprised me is the number of co-ownership deals between Inter and Milan!! And what is not surprising at all, is that we don't have any such deals with the bianconeri!!
I am glad we kept Acquafresca, Bonucci, Eliakwu, & Maa Boumsong. Glad we sold Pasquale. And sad we sold Momente!
In alphabetical order, Inter's co-ownership deals:
Robert Acquafresca (striker), Inter/Treviso: player bought outright by Inter.
Nicola Beati (midfielder), Inter/Arezzo: resolved in favour of Arezzo.
Leonardo Bonucci (defender), Inter/Treviso: co-ownership renewed.
Luca Ceccarelli (defender) Inter/AC Milan: co-ownership renewed.
Alex Cordaz (goalkeeper) Inter/Treviso: co-ownership renewed.
Marco Dalla Costa (striker) Inter/Pro Sesto: co-ownership renewed.
Matteo Deinite (defender) Inter/AC Milan: player bought outright by Inter.
Nicola Donazzan (defender) Inter/Mantova: resolved in favour of Mantova.
Abdullahi Isah Eliakwu (striker) Inter/Triestina: co-ownership renewed.
Daniele Federici (defender) Inter/Pro Sesto: co-ownership renewed.
Salvatore Ferraro (defender) Inter/AC Milan: player bought outright by AC Milan.
Matteo Giordano (defender) Inter/AC Milan: player bought outright by Inter.
Daniel Maa Boumsong (midfielder) Inter/Treviso: co-ownership renewed.
Dino Marino (midfielder) Inter/Pro Patria: resolved in favour of Pro Patria.
Matteo Momentè (striker) Inter/Venezia: resolved in favour of Venezia.
Mathieu Moreau (goalkeeper) Inter/Lucchese: resolved in favour of Lucchese.
Aiman Napoli (striker) Inter/Pro Sesto: co-ownership renewed.
Davis Nossa (defender) Inter/San Marino: resolved in favour of Inter.
Luca Palazzo (midfielder) Inter/Pro Sesto: resolved in favour of Pro Sesto.
Giovanni Pasquale (defender) Inter/Livorno: player bought outright by Livorno.
David Pizarro (midfielder) Inter/Roma: player bought outright by Roma.
Mario Rebecchi (midfielder) Inter/Lumezzane: resolved in favour of Lumezzane.
Nello Russo (striker) Inter/Crotone: resolved in favour of Crotone.
Daniele Semenzato (defender) Inter/Montichiari: player bought outright by Inter.
Guillerme Siqueira (midfielder) Inter/Udinese: co-ownership renewed.
Giuseppe Ticli (midfielder) Inter/AC Milan: player bought outright by AC Milan.
Ronny Diuk Toma (midfielder) Inter/AC Milan: co-ownership renewed.
Carlo Raffaele Trezzi (midfielder) Inter/Pro Patria: resolved in favour of Pro Patria.
Carl Valeri (midfielder) Inter/Grosseto: player's future yet to be resolved.
Marco Varaldi (goalkeeper) Inter/AC Milan: co-ownership renewed.

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
Suazo banned for Inter signature?
Wednesday 20 June, 2007
David Suazo could be suspended and Inter fined if Massimo Moratti’s claims that he signed a contract are true.
The Cagliari player was all set to join the Nerazzurri, but in a shock move Milan reached an agreement with the club for £10m.
Inter were furious and President Moratti told several television stations that there was paperwork proving their deal. “The player signed a contract with us,” he said.
This could well prove costly, as it is illegal for a player to put pen to paper when he is still under contract with another club.
An inquest has officially been opened into the matter and both sides risk sanctions from the authorities.
If Suazo has signed a contract before Cagliari released him, then he could be suspended and Inter face a fine.
The turnaround has also mined confidence within the club, as it seems Coach Roberto Mancini was only told of the transfer to Milan by journalists.
“I am astonished and totally without words,” he told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’ “I don’t know what to say. What happened? Inter have a director and a President, so you’ll have to ask them. Nobody told me anything.”
Meanwhile, in a bid to fight back against that incredible snub from cousins Milan, it is reported that Nerazzurri director Marco Branca has flown to Barcelona for talks with Samuel Eto’o.
The Rossoneri confirmed several times that the Nou Camp star was their main transfer target upfront and that Suazo was an alternative once they realised he could not be prised away from Barca.
So Inter would consider it quite a coup if they managed to achieve what Milan failed to do.
Moratti’s men have the advantage of offering Adriano and Walter Samuel as part of an exchange deal for the Cameroon international.

Lol, what a mess.
How stupid of that Inter director to fly to Barcelona. Because Etoo is in South Africa
Even if he's talking to Etoo's agent, it's pointless. Laporta, Rijkaard, Ronaldinho, and Etoo have all said he's staying.

and then there is the blind auctions...
Quaglia and Cassetti auction
The deadline for co-ownership agreements has passed and 14 players’ futures will be decided by blind auction, including Marco Cassetti and Fabio Quagliarella.
A blind auction takes place in Italian football when two sides can’t decide on the fate of a player.
Therefore they secretly place an offer, for the other club’s 50 per cent stake in the individual, in a sealed envelope and then hand that over to the Italian Football League.
Whichever club bids the highest has to pay that fee in order to net the player. The envelopes will be opened on Thursday.
Some situations were resolved before the deadline. Davide Biondini and Paolo Bianco are now entirely owned by Cagliari after buying out Reggina and Catania respectively.
Davide Marchini is now co-owned by the Sardinians, having previously been on loan from Triestina.
Christian Maggio remains at Sampdoria after agreeing to share his contract with Fiorentina, renewing deals with Palermo for Christian Terlizzi and Massimo Bonanni as well as with Udinese for Mirko Pieri and Salvatore Foti.
Samp have sold their half of Luca Antonini to Milan and Mark Edusei to Catania.
However, the Blucerchiati have failed to reach an agreement with Udinese over the ownership of transfer hot property Quagliarella.
He goes into the blind auction along with 13 other players tomorrow afternoon.

Some interesting ones there.
I remember when Udinese and Fiorentina both bid nothing for Jorgensen
Fiorentina also lost out on Miccoli and Obodo that year
Almiron looks an interesting signing for Juve - I like the little that I've seen of him.

Re: The Italian Summer - Transfer Talk 2007.
It started as an extension of the loan arrangement... big teams in Italy were buying 60-80 players, and loaning many of the promising youngsters to the small clubs for them to get experience... and if someone made it big, they would just recall them....
I guess in many cases the medium-to-small clubs decided they deserved a share of this appreciation in market value, coz it mainly came when the player played for them... hence co-ownership... it also happens when a club does not want to take 100% risk on a particular player....
why clubs like Inter & Milan do it between themselves, I just cannot understand...

No, Sampdoria and Udinese didn't reach an agreement
