The only worse stepovers I've seen was Gerrard's against Andorra I believe. And the funniest thing is that the defender was so Cr@p they actually worked Laughing

Yep, drop England's 1 world class player.

That might just work. Maybe if England play like Scotland or something they would then just be happy to win a few games and just miss out on qualifying.

While people might not like Gerrard getting MOTM which was going to go to an England player and could equally have gone to Terry or Beckham. I don't understand why they blame gerrard for it, he didn't vote. Plenty of people have voted for hargreaves for MOTM even on this board for much less than what gerrard did.

The poll should have been are England fans stupid?

What happened to calling gerarrd a "headless chicken"? Proved a lot of people wrong with a disciplined performance. Could have passed better but then he might have looked for beckham or cole on the wing or lampard somewhere in space, but none of them actually play in any kind of set position and not the most mobile of players so it means improvising every time he had the ball. Smith and owen up front don't give a lot of options and neither did the full-backs one not known for his ball retention and the other looking nervous on his debute so his passing options were a bit limited right from the start.

Gerrard is clearly not as good a DM as, say, Mascherano. There were moments when he clearly failed to break up the play which led to attacking opportunities.

However, how many other AMs could, if requested, play DM against Kaka and Ronaldinho, in front of a makeshift defence, and manage to a) be reasonably effective and b) not get sent off. Kaka? Lampard? Scholes? I don't think so.

He even managed to get forward a bit.

Playing out of his usual position he did OK, not brilliantly.

I hope so. If he's not scoring from set pieces he's certainly not offering any other attacking threat.

Bizarre, Look at Rauls goal the other day, the through ball Owen almost got, i would say he is England's greatest attacking threat, on form the best player, off form great from set pieces Biggrin

agh how fickle england fans are Laughing . from the limited, enemy number one a few months ago to hero now

he had just as many misplaced passes as gerrard the other night but nobody mentioned it because he created the goal

you know exactly what roger means Wink however he isn't helped by england never getting him into the right positions high enough up the pitch that he has been getting into for real recently

I didn't say he wasnt an attacking threat for RM - just not for England. Just as Lampard is undeniably an attacking threat for Chelsea but not for England.

The through ball for Owen was about the only example of a real threat created from open play. In fairness, it's not Beckham's fault he's only got a couple of dwarfs to aim at, and if Crouch starts then he could have some joy against Estonia.

But a good international team can pin him back around the halfway line so all he's doing is lumping up hopeful long balls. We've got no width on the left - we need some on the right.

    Play SWP.

    Is this thread a joke?

Gerrrd was asked to play the defensive midfielder role on Saturday - about as unnatural position as you could imagine for him Yikes

And yet he still did ok. Lampard is just plain $h!t.

Mcclarens retarded comments after the game v brazil just confirmed to me what a pile of $h!t of a manager he is (the comment about Lampard and his doubters. wanker)

As I've said before, I'm really not that bothered if Gerrard plays for England or not. I'm quite happy for him to be wrapped in cotton wool when not playing for Liverpool.

    By all means play

    Liverpool are in

    FREEFALL

    obviously

    BENITEZ, aka

    the GOAT

has a lot to do with it

    BUT

keen observers will have noticed that GERRARD is

    NOT GOOD ENOUGH

for a club of Liverpool's ambitions

    Doh

    I suppose

as long as he is still valued at 10 million + x Dollars

Pool should sell him to Inter
