Francesco Totti has won the Golden Shoe award as Europe’s top League scorer with 26 Serie A goals.
The Roma captain had to wait until this evening to know if Ruud Van Nistelrooy could catch up to him in the final La Liga game.
However, he ended his campaign with 25 goals, having been substituted at half-time against Real Mallorca.
This is the second consecutive year that an Italian has won the prestigious trophy, as last season Luca Toni hit 31 Serie A goals for Fiorentina.
Curiously, before Toni no Italian had ever taken that title of Europe’s top scorer in League competition.
The contest is decided via a coefficient system based on the difficulty of scoring in each nation.
Afonso Alves came in third after scoring 34 goals for Dutch outfit Heerenveen.
In terms of the system, Totti earned 52 points, whereas van Nistelrooy's 25 goals were worth 50 points.
