I do vaguely remember the LB, Mc-somethin, right?... didn't ve a good game, I am afraid... Foggia toasted him a few times, and Foggia-Santon in the second half were a bit too much for the lad to handle. He could not go forward at all, mostly coz of Santon pushing him back everytime.

Yeah McGivern, i thought he'd be out his depth, he is still ver young, i expect him to go out on loan to a championship team next season.

The funniest hype was that surrounding the England team going into WC 06 whih was only 3 years ago.

They took him off. Pirlo, Toni, Montolivio, Zambrotta and Iaquinta all came on it's now 3-3. Anyway still a little iffy.

Finished 4-3 - Big Vince was great when he came on.

Hopefully it is a wake up call to Lippi though. Players like Legro and Pepe won't cut it. He needs to bring in some younger and better players (CASSANO).

    <Ale>

Amelia was utter shit (as per usual). Iaquinta HAS to start with Rossi and Foggia if Lippi is to persevere with this pathetic 4-3-3.

Montolivo's international career should now be declared OVER, he is so mediocre and useless it's embarrasing, ditto for Pepe. Legrottaglie seems great for Juventus, but poor in internationals and very casual in possession.

Poor tactic, poor selection, the 'old' favorites have to go, not because of their age or name, but because they don't do it. We usually have a fairly relaxed attitude to friendlies, but this was quite a bad performance.

Yeah, some of the players that Lippi always seem to start just don't cut it at this level... my main issue is with Legrotaglie and Pepe. How can these talentless players make the Azzurri, I just cannot understand. How many examples does Lippi need to realise that Legro just doesn't cut it????

Amelia had a poor game. But he is better than that, usually. But perhaps De Sanctis should be second choice. Maybe even Abbiati...

It's really quite sad that they laugh at Italy for winning a friendly, which Lippi himself described as a training match for the Confed Cup.

Also funny how Rosicky thinks that the Italy - N Ireland game was hyped up because of a few posts by Blue, yet there's a 10 page discussion of England playing tiny Andorra.

My posts on the Italy-ireland game were mostly focusing on the debut of a 18 yr old, which for Italy NT is an event in itself. Its a very big deal for the Azzurri (maybe not for most other teams), something that has been bettered only once in last 70 years!! However shite the other team is, that was beside the point - Never claimed that Ireland were a good team. The fact that a 18 yr old finally made his debut for Italy, and had a great game, is enough to celebrate.

I don't know why people here cannot understand that... I think I have written quite a few posts/threads before, frustated on Azzurri's reluctance to give young players a chance.

so what? We won in the end.

Performances from certain players were terrible, but as Lippi said, it was effectively a training session, and gave him a chance to try out some different players and formations, so it's not like he really gives a fuck about the result.

What is embarassing though is a hyped up nation like England failing to qualify for Euro 2008.

    Italy's expected starting line-up:
Buffon; Zambrotta, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Grosso; Gattuso, De Rossi, Pirlo; Iaquinta, Gilardino, Camoranesi

What the.....??? That looks like a WC 2006 line up, the only one missing is Cannavaro who would ve started if he was fit!!! Lippi needs to get over his WC06 hangover soon!!!!!

At least its the in form Gila over Toni, but why no Rossi or Santon??

Spanish Press blast Italy and Rossi
    Tuesday 16 June, 2009
In a quite sensational attack, Spanish newspaper AS has called Giuseppe Rossi 'a traitor' and believes Italy did not deserve to beat the USA.

The Azzurri won 3-1 after going behind late in the first half to a Landon Donovan penalty.

Rossi then came on and changed everything scoring Italy's first and third goal to secure victory.

The 22-year-old Villarreal striker was born in America and lived there until he was 14 when he moved to Italy.

“They play bad, they don't deserve it and they win. Where is the story?” AS wrote in vitriolic fashion.

They described the Azzurri's performance 'as pallid as the new official Italy shirt.'

Italy apparently won because they had 'other virtues' and practiced 'the other football.'

AS praised Rossi, saying: “Thanks to him, Italy played with 13 men.” However, they also called him 'a traitor' and 'the latest Italian trick.'

“Rossi was born in New Jersey, the son of Italian parents. He lived there for 14 years and he is now 22,” AS wrote.

“As a child, he played baseball. He is more American than any other thing.”

To finish, AS likened his goals to patricide, the act of killing one's father.
