It's clearly not balanced, this is just Calderon's latest rhetoric to convince the fans that everything will be ok. We can still win as the last two years have demonstrated but I don't think we can make a serious assault on the Champions with the squad as it is.
Yes we can because you dont need a perfect squad to win the Cl or even a great team as Liverpool has shown before. what is needed is some luck in the right time plus quality. last year we got our worst period of luck right at the time when we were in Cl and we still shouldnt have gone out.

But luck wouldn't matter (as much) if we had a replacement for Ruud. And we most certainly did deserve to go out. If you can't be f*cking Roma at home then you don't deserve to advance.

SPORT says you're interested in either Huntelaar or Milito...Marca says Man. Utd. are also tracking Huntelaar.

But the problem is that if you don't have a great squad and you have a lot of injuries for a knockout game in the CL, that could mean the end. That's pretty much what happened against Roma. Robinho, Ramos, Sneijder, Ruud, Heinze, and Robben, were all either injured or coming off an injury.
A similar thing happened to ManU 2 years ago when their entire defense was injured and they got spanked 3-0 by Milan.

In the league, a team can withstand injuries in the long run. You can lose several points but you can still make them up eventually. In the CL one bad game could mean you're out.

Also, it's worth noting that Marcelo had a very good Olympics and I think it was the best for us that Brasil got eliminated and not Argentina. We could definitely use a leftback and Gago remaining in Pekin means that De la Red will get more chances to impress <Ale>

According to *the* Dutch football site, Real Madrid have made a 25M offer for Huntelaar....

That's what loads of people were writing on these boards : I never took that to be realistic.

You could have realised that yourself too : 15M for Huntelaar is of course a joke.

    I think he'll go for 27-28M.

Hmm yeah I guess it's fair enough when you consider the amount of goals he scores. Would be typical Madrid though to spend that much money on someone who won't play all that much (at least not as much as he would at Man. Utd.).

You might not need great players, but you do need a great team and a great coach - as we and Porto proved.
That is true of course.my point was simply that no need for fearing that if we dont get a striker as back up then we wont be able to win Cl. i think the squad as it is should be able to win CL. my problem is more with Shuster. if pre season is anything to go on then he has still not solved the problem that we have been having consistently since the galactico days.
there still doesnt seem to be the movement and understanding between the players.our counter attacks on the underhand are of the highest quality.
